Oh, thank God. Even though I liked the three singles, I was very worried I wouldn't like this album, but it's actually really good. "Give You What You Like" is amazing. It should've been the first single. It's between GYWYL and Hello Kitty for single #4, so hopefully Epic makes the right decision.

Wow...I haven't heard the album yet (tomorrow!!!), but I wasn't expecting it to receive such good reviews. Hopefully that continues! Every little bit helps.

Glad that this is seeing some critical praise. We'll see how it fares commercially though..

Glad that this is seeing some critical praise. We'll see how it fares commercially though.. It's obviously opening with 60k>. She doesn't have a hit single preceding this release so the only thing that will carry opening week are sales based off her name alone. If Let Me Go keeps up on AC and (if released) GYWYL helps gain some interest in her again, the era will have some legs (unlike her last).

I think it's a great record and definitely a step up from Goodbye Lullaby. I'm still scratching my head at why they'd lead the album off with with two of the most juvenile sounding songs on the record. I'm hoping that "17" has a shot after "Let Me Go".

Target circular: Avril Lavigne $9.99.
How much is it in the Best Buy circular?

I'm surprised "HK" is seriously in contention.

I've gotten all the way through Bad Girl. I gotta say, I am thoroughly impressed. Avril remains true to form and doesn't cower in the face of criticism that she continues to cater to teenage girls. In doing so, she has crafted an unwavering persona of, as she calls it, the "muthaf**king princess". That said, she is multifaceted and displays that here very well. The album definitely plays considerably to her strengths. Of course, I'm not sure how it's going to translate sales-wise and I think her days of gold and platinum sales are unfortunately behind her, but at least she proves she can put out a really solid album at this point in her career. Props to Chad for that stellar duet, too. LMG has gotta be one of my favorite Avril songs in her entire catalog. It's up there with Wish You Were Here, I'm With You, and How Does It Feel for me.

Even though there aren't that many reputable or major sources reporting on this (and not sure if there will be), I'm glad the response has been favorable because it's my favorite album of hers.
Edit: To say I am impressed with this album would be a gross understatement. Other than her ballads and Sk8 Boi, I didn't love any of her uptempos until the last few albums anyway so, without a doubt, this is my favorite album of hers. Those last two songs on this album are just sublime.

I just finished listening to the album, and my initial impression is that it's much stronger overall than Goodbye Lullaby. I enjoyed every song on first listen, which is surprising because all of Avril's other albums had at least two or three tracks that took some time to grow on me. My favorites - aside from 'Here's to Never Growing Up' and 'Rock N Roll', both of which I love - are '17', 'Give You What You Like', 'Bad Girl', and 'You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet'. All in all, I'm thrilled with this album. I knew Avril wouldn't let me down!

OMG just listened the the entire album and all I can say is that I love how her voice sounds in all these tracks! It's just so good. On first listen alone I really like are GYWYL, HHeartache, FF and B'S. I'm gonna give it a few more listens but it's very likely I'll be purchasing this this coming weekend. Can someone tell me what "Mina saiko" means? My friend who likes both kpop and jrock tells me it means something like " y'all are great" and it's frequently used in concerts to thank their crowds; which I guess is why Avril sings " arigato" right after it.

Wow...this is a really impressive album. It's too bad the public probably won't hear them, but 17, Bitchin' Summer, Sippin on Sunshine, Fallin' Fast, and Hush Hush are all really strong tracks (in addition to Rock N Roll and Let Me Go.) I even liked Bad Girl and Hello Kitty to some extent, odd as they are. HTNGU is actually one of the weakest tracks in my opinion.

'Hello Kitty' is so effing weird, but in a good way. It's such a different sound for her.
'Give You What You Like' is one of the best things she's ever recorded. I wish they would have led with it as the first single; I feel like it's a much better representation of the album than either 'HtNGU' or 'RNR' were/are.
ETA: I really don't like the acoustic version of 'RNR'. I wish they would quit trying to push these damn acoustic tracks on us and give us actual new songs instead. I mean, TBDT had an acoustic 'I Can Do Better', Goodbye Lullaby had 'What the Hell', 'Push', and 'Wish You Were Here' in acoustic form, an acoustic version of 'Smile' was included on the 'WYWH' single, and so on and so forth. Enough. It also annoys me that 'Bad Reputation' was tacked on to the Japanese version of this album when it was already a bonus track on the deluxe edition of GL. Blah. /rant over

Great, great album. I really loved Goodbye Lullaby but I can see this surpassing it in the long run for me.
LOVE Rock N Roll Here's to Never Growing Up 17 Bitchin' Summer Let Me Go Give You What You Like Bad Girl Hello Kitty (it's embarrassing, but it's still awesome.) Sippin' On Sunshine Falling Fast Hush Hush
LIKE You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet
"Hello Heartache" is alright... it kinda started off better than it ended. But maybe it'll grow on me.

This may be her most consistent album to date. So many pop albums fall into the "first half hits, second half filler" trap, but the last few tracks on this are just as good as the singles, if not better. None strike me as smashes, but it feels like actual effort was put into each of these songs (unlike GL and TBDT which were packed with filler). She's still a long way off from Let Go glory, but this is a step in the right direction.
Favorites: Rock N Roll 17 Bad Girl (what a refreshing sound for her!) Sippin' On Sunshine (generic as hell, but a jam nonetheless) Falling Fast (WHERE has this sound been for the last 10 years of her career!?)

^ Oh, I disagree that GL and TBDT are packed with filler. IMO, TBDT is stellar from start to finish, and the only songs on GL that I would consider cutting are '4 Real' and 'Remember When', though I wouldn't necessarily describe either of them as filler. Honestly, I think all of her albums are pretty tight. Of course, I'm a total stan, so...yeah.

This album is fantastic. As a huge Avril Lavigne fan who owns all her other albums, I expected it to be great, but I am actually really impressed at how great this record is. The only songs I could do without are Bad Girl and Hello Kitty, but they're at least listenable (for now... I can see myself tiring of them both quickly). Everything else though is stellar and there's so many single choices on this record, so I really hope that Epic is able to get her at least a couple more hits after "Let Me Go" peaks, that forgo the fate that "Rock N Roll" had (still can't believe that bombed, it was SO good!).
Early favorites are: 17 (probably my favorite song on the album, the melody of the verses is perfect and the chorus packs a punch - it's perfect), You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet (another perfect melody), Give You What You Like (killer vocals), and the first two singles. I like everything else though as well, and there's a lot of variety on this record between the Goodbye Lullaby-esque ballads near the end of the tracklist and the classic Avril uptempo anthems like the first two singles. Both styles of her's that I love -- she's always juggled songs like "When You're Gone" with songs like "What the Hell" quite nicely imo.
"17" and "Give You What You Like" both need to be future singles.
