Despite peaking at a low #39 on the Hot 100, this song has become a classic over the years. It has appeared in popular films like Sixteen Candles and Father of the Bride. Phil Spector produced the song and famously offered her either the rights to the song or $3000 to let him retain full rights. She took the $3000. Phil Spector ended up collecting major royalties from this song.
Darlene was criminally underrated as a solo artist, but she definitely got her dues over the years. "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" is a perennial holiday favorite, and she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year.
