I feel like people are blowing this American Idol thing out of proportion. It didn't really seem like they were throwing shade at her...

I just can't take the "high risk" thing as not being shade. What part of that performance could have possibly been high risk? And the "would we accept the guest judge?" "...." There were definitely some awkward moments.

I agree with your latter statement: it's entirely the fault of Idol for opening the doors for someone who's a performer first and foremost -- not that there's anything wrong with that. So while I find it wildly amusing that people were a little uh... bewildered by the performance, I also find it a bit backhanded and disrespectful to Nicki, not the other way around. That's her thing, why can't they just let her be great? Interesting take. While we don't always see eye-to-eye, I like how you see things from different angles. It's a much more...intellectual approach, whereas I tend to react very quickly and often violently. At the end of the day, Nicki CERTAINLY doesn't need my approval because she has legions of fans who will co-sign her every move and, at the very least, the performance was promo for the album. Therefore, Nicki wins.

Loved her Idol performance. This is a woman who enjoys her time spent on stage and knows how to keep her audience energized. What part of that performance could have possibly been high risk? Her left tit threatened to take over judges' panel during the first chorus. That alone would have given rise to outstanding indecency complaints and obviously no party involved wants that.

I could understand that due to her tit slip on ABC.

Nothing he said directly implied anything of a titular affair, but I guess we'll write that up to poor execution (and the fact that I was more than a little doped up last night). I'll concede that that probably was what he was talking about, but with the awkwardness emanating from the judges, reading too far into Seacrest's schtick isn't hard. ETA: re-watched it. Breasts aren't that low, Ryan. The high risk comment was definitely about her boobs, which almost popped out a few times during the performance lol. It probably didn't help that I didn't notice this either. Whoopsie!

@ the shade on American Idol tonight. Jennifer Lopez and Steve Tyler's looks were too damn funny. Plus Ryan too. Well, can you BLAME them? They are judging a SINGING competition, first and foremost and to come on there and blatantly not even TRY to sing during the singing parts (not even convinced her rapping was live either), especially given the actual sturdy crop of talent they have this year, was blatant disrespect. Though, in my opinion, American Idol asked for it by getting her on the show in the first place. She is starting to get on my nerves... A bit ironic that Jlo of all people would be upset by that.

I am so in love with this album. As much as I love the standard edition and all of the RedOne contributions (he can do no wrong to me with Nicki), I'm so glad for Va Va Voom and Masquerade. They really help give the 'pop' half an extra oomph. Va Va Voom is amazing.

Wow, she has SO MANY POTENTIAL SMASHES ON THIS ALBUM.
Pound the Alarm needs to released ASAP though.
Edit: Marilyn Monroe. The best I've ever heard her sing. :o

I don't like this album at all. The "mixtape Nicki" tracks have absolutely no replay value and have terrible lyrics, and the dance tracks are generic as hell. Her first album was way more cohesive. There's no denying that "Pound the Alarm" is a colossal #1 smash though.

I'm actually SHOCKINGLY surprised by how good some of the songs are. Once you get past those crappy wrap songs, which make up the 1st half of the album, it's full of pop gems. How the hell did some of those songs make the album over Va Va Voom and Masquerade? Overall, I think Young Forever will be the biggest hit of her career once all is said and done. There's no denying the mass appeal of that song! That song HAS to be the 2nd pop single! After Starships finishes slaying, of course.

Besides Come on a Cone, the album doesn't start until Starships. I was completely ready to write Nicki off, but she really took pop by the balls here and made it work for her. Impressed imo.

I'm not really sure what I think of this. The second part of the album is really very strong, if a little generic. The first stretch is OK, but feels half-assed - like she set out to record a full pop album, but couldn't entirely alienate her fan base. Part of me thinks she should have just released everything from Starships onwards (bar a couple of tracks). Either way, there are two distinct albums here and I don't think they should have been released together. She should have gone either way, or combined the two separate sounds to create something a lot shorter. In terms of singles, though... absolutely spoilt for choice. If she plays her cards right, she'll stack the hits up. Anything through from Starships to Young Forever could be released.
I have to say though, I've never been wowed by her solo material. I'm generally more impressed by her guest spots on other tracks.

Although I LOVE the track, "Marilyn Monroe" is an exact rip-off of "Stuttering" by Fefe Dobson (a song with the exact melody of Behind These Hazel Eyes).
Generic pop music cycle.

I hear it slightly at the beginning but after that not so much, but it's the same producer so I guess that happens. Marilyn Monroe has such great lyrics. :'(

Just starting to listen to the album, and holy s**t. Marilyn Monroe really is a CARBON COBY of Stuttering.
But that does not stop it from being a f**king jam.
Adele is giving me life with all of these pop songs.

Like I said, I still ADORE the song.

I find it funny how she wasn't credited as a songwriter for TMO on Guetta's album yet she gets top billing for it on her album.

After listening to Marilyn Monroe again, It DOES sound like a less catchy version of Behind These Hazel Eyes. EXACT same structure. Gotta love originality of some of these big time producers.

You would think she would have bigger name producers on her album considering how huge she is. When I think of JR Rotem, I think of Paris Hilton and Britney castoffs. Of course, she calls in the standard Dr Luke & friends and GaGa's go-to guy RedOne but who are those other people?

Am I the only one who thinks the second half, while admittedly catchy, is super bland? Could be any female pop singer.
Will be interesting to see how this fares chartwise. She's arguably had a pop hit with Super Bass and now Starships, but the bulk of Pink Friday's sales actually came at a time when she was rather an urban than a pop artist...
