Yeah just heard it on whatever show they're on this morning. Three words: not a fan. So what? Hater always is a hater.

The opening-week figures strike me as rather underwhelming.
Granted "Nothing Like This" was released on the cusp of the 2010 holiday shopping season. Still, the thought of Shinedown possibly out-selling them in an opening week is cause for at least slight concern........especially considering the greater degree of publicity surrounding the release via the one-night airing of the "Changed" documentary primarily.
The success of subsequent releases may very well prove to translate to "slow and steady wins the race" for this trio. The title track has potential to energize sales longevity. Out of the gate, though, the numbers appear a mild-to-moderate letdown.
Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

Well, I have to be honest. I used to be a fan of this trio, but ever since the Unstoppable era, I found the quality of their albums to have severely weakened. I could go into further detail, but I'll keep it short.
I'm not really a fan of "Banjo" and this recent album they've put out made it strike three in my book. In other words, I don't see myself supporting this group anymore. :(
One more thing: I know there's an album thread, but where's the listening party thread?

Will there be one, though? I'd honestly like to see what everyone else thinks about it.

Yeah, I'm also interested in hearing everyone's opinion on the album.
What are your favorite/least favorite songs?

Yeah, I'm also interested in hearing everyone's opinion on the album. What are your favorite/least favorite songs? I gotta be honest and say this one is a step down from NLT, at least from a production standpoint. But I do have to say the songs are a bit stronger than the last time around, although there are no truly "great" songs in the set, IMO. My favorites: "A Little Home"- I like the production, and Gary's vocals are really good. And Jay and Joe Don sing solos, which hasn't happened on an album since their debut. "Sunrise"- One of the stronger songs on the album from a lyrical standpoint, and I really like it. "Great Big Love"- I like this one a lot- lyrically, it's nothing special, but Gary sounds like he had a lot of fun with this one, and there's lots of personality to be found. "Come Wake Me Up"- I like this one; it's a good ballad and Gary's vocal performance is golden. It's probably one of my favorites from a lyrical standpoint. I also love "Changed" and I think it's probably the best song on the record; "Hot In Here" and "She's Leaving" are guilty pleasures for me, but I do wish they'd been replaced with stronger songs. I'm not one for novelty ditties myself. :) "Hurry Baby" is alright- compelling vocal from Gary and good production, but the lyrics aren't anything special, and I don't like "Lovin' Me" because it's way too repetitive for my taste. The bonus tracks aren't bad, but not great, either. "Friday" is atrocious, IMO, but the rest sound like typical Flatts songs. "Next To You, Next To Me" is by far the highlight of the record for me; great harmonies and vocals, plus it's already known as a country classic. I don't dislike the record, but I can see why their core fanbase has shrunk over the years; the quality of their material has really slid in the past few years. It's a shame to me because when they're great I think they're one of the best trio's in country music (Next To You, Next To Me is a prime example), but when they're just average they're just another band. At this point they can do whatever the heck they want as a band, but I just wish they'd use the platform to show they can be great instead of average.

I wouldn't worry too much yet about the fate of this album. Nothing Like This had incredible longevity, and singles #2 and #3 outperformed "Why Wait" in sales (even though they both fell short of the penthouse). So, I could see them easily selling well anyway, regardless of the opening week. And I think this is a pretty solid start for them too, considering this was released in April vs. the Q4 release of NTL, which always yields higher sales totals. Taking that into consideration, I'd say they are about level with that album.

Changed sold 130,000 copies in its first week to land at #1 on the country chart and #3 on the top 200 chart.

As long as they pick the right singles they'll be fine & I'm sure BM will give them plenty of promo. I'm just crossing my fingers they don't pick "She's Leavin'" as a single, but now that they're with a different label the backlash may not be as bad as it was with "Bob That Head." They'll probably be on tour summer 2012- winter, so I'm sure they'll be successful on the road as well. A recent Billboard article mentioned it's a tossup between "Changed" and "Come Wake Me Up" for the next single. I think the former would be the predictable choice & would probably perform very well at radio, but CWMA is solid, too. Since they've performed "Changed" twice live already & it was one of the promo singles for the album I'm thinking it's the obvious choice though. Country listeners seemed to connect with it most out of the Itunes releases & it seems to be getting a great response; country fans and radio would probably eat it up.

"Changed" has sold over 100,000 downloads in half the time that "Banjo" has been for sale. It's DEFINITELY something that will be as strong digitally as well as radio-wise as "I Won't Let Go."

The album has only sold 195,000 copies to date. I don't care what time of year it is. That's a really big drop for a group that had an opening week over 400,000 a few years ago. I think their fans have a case of album burnout.

I think their fans have a case of album burnout. Plus the album stinks. I hate to say that as a long time RF fan, but it's just not that good. There are couple of good songs, but no great ones (even Unstoppable had a few great songs mixed in with the over-produced crapola). There weren't as many lowlights as on their past couple albums, but it's still a cut-below. They desperately need to distance themselves from Dann Huff, his overproduction has completely ruined their career.

I pretty much stopped supporting Rascal Flatts after the Still Feels Good era. With Changed, I only moderately liked a few ballads (the title track, "Let It Hurt", and "A Little Home") and the rest was just... . To be brutal here, I wouldn't mind if they become the next country group to be hated on (like Nickelback is the current rock band to hate on). I personally think that their egos have overgrown and are deciding to release underwhelming material since they figure that the fans are gonna gobble it up anyways and radio will keep supporting them. However, I don't know what's going on in their minds so I'm mostly just shooting off at the mouth. Don't report me please. I used to really enjoy this group; in fact, I put their first 5 albums back into my iTunes library. I plan on selling my copies of Unstoppable and Nothing Like This some time in the future. I promised myself I wouldn't post in an RF thread again, but here I am. P.S. I absolutely hate this song and instantly change the station once it comes on.

"A Little Home" is a nice song on the new album... it's nice to hear Jay and Joe Don both sing verses in it.

Yeah, this will easily claim #1 for the week on Mediabase, and it's looking likely that they may also grab the Billboard #1. Two more days left on BB, and they're hosting Lon Helton's countdown this weekend.

I will be able to move Rascal Flatts up to #39 (from #45) on the list of those artists with the most #1s once Banjo is confirmed as their 12th #1 hit.

I'm sure they're aware album sales are low, but a lot of artists go buy the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" motto (Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Reba, Strait, Craig Morgan, Lady A, and the list goes on). I do agree they need to get the heck away from Dann Huff; I hope they don't stay with him for much longer. Personally, I think it's a bit harsh to say they should be hated upon because they're mediocore; again, there are plenty of artists (more guilty than not) who have slipped in the same trap. The difference is RF are still selling albums, having radio hits & selling concert tickets; of course they're gonna think they're doing something right. Honestly, I just don't think they're innovative enough to revolutionize their sound at the point; the fact that the band almost split up because their popularity was taking a dip says a lot.

The only time I saw Rascal Flatts' ego is the year Lady A got Group of the Year and Gary said "we want to win that award back" or something to that effect.

Joe Don tweeted the next single, chosen by the fans, is "Come Wake Me Up." I'm actually shocked, as I was positive they'd chose "Changed." But this is a great choice, and it's one of Gary's best vocal performances on the album. I'll be curious to see how it does as a single though.
It's official "Come Wake Me Up" is @rascalflatts next single! Thx for ur input y'all! #flattheads are the best! :)

I know Big Machine said they will choose "Changed" or "Come Wake Me Up" to be the next single. And I always think they will choose "Changed" because the digital download is pretty good for this song and Rascal Flatts have sung the song twice on the big TV shows already. I guess maybe they want "Changed" to be 3rd single so they can shoot a music video for that meaningful song? I mean, because they don't often shoot a music video for their 2nd single.

You're right about that; I had completely forgotten that Big Machine had mentioned it was a toss up between Changed & CWMU for the next single. I'm surprised more fans wanted CMU over "Changed," but I also don't think they'll shoot a video for this one so they can wait until the release of "Changed."

I am also surprised by the choice of the second single, but I feel like its still fairly inevitable for Changed to be a single at some point.
