Memorial Day weekend alot of stations tend to play older songs . it is one of the biggest holidays in the US.

Memorial Day as explained above, but also Z100 rebranded as T100 due to Taylor Swift performing here this weekend, and played her music nonstop (seriously). I thought they were doing this for the whole weekend but it seems they've stopped at some point.

Some songs apparently still get played for 6 months plus.
How many people here even listen to the radio anymore?
The people that I know just flip channels until they recognize a song.
It drives me nuts, but that’s how it is.
Besides with everything going so fast now a days I think people want to hear something familiar in the 45 minutes they’re listening to the radio.
Not me personally, I’ve just noticed that a lot lately.

I agree with your points, and I think it's definitely representative of how the general public feels. I think the reason some folks are complaining on here though is because for a community of chart watchers, it isn't as enjoyable to see the charts move at such a glacial pace. The allure of watching charts for me is to see why certain songs perform better than others, so it's not particularly interesting to see pretty much the same top 5 week after week, especially when anything that gets close to the top 5 starts losing tons of spins. As has been discussed earlier in this thread, I think in the coming years, pop radio will continue to play less and less new music in favor of playing throwbacks and hit songs that are familiar to people.

For most of the general public, I agree with you that playing only the biggest songs is appealing to them because they want to hear something familiar. Most people now discover new music through streaming and playlists, and they don't turn to radio to discover new music. However, while playing the same songs will please the majority of the general public, it means the charts are much less interesting to watch for those of us that enjoy watching the charts. Not disagreeing with you though.

streaming is worse cuz you have a bunch of stans who just flat-out play their favs music over and over and over for years.
