^^ Thank for posting, Typo. I love hearing her bare, pristine vocals stripped down from the big production and instruments. Her vocal on 'Small' is just out-of-this world. I wish we a similar sessions performance 'Wasted' from that night.

Same here, hands down. Not only were her vocals and the acoustic arrangement flawless, but I've never seen/heard her sing that song with such passion and conviction. Ngl, it almost brought me to tears, not to be sappy or anything. ;)

I use Youtube and stream it on my iPod Touch. It's not really "on" my iPod - but the Youtube video suffices.

Thanks typo for posting the link to that So Small performance. This was my first time viewing it. Wow! doesn't even describe it. This is why I love Carrie. As much as I do love Blown Away (album and song), Carrie's voice truly shines on more acoustic material (and although Mark Bright seems to have gotten better about allowing Carrie's voice to be front and center, there's still room for improvement). What a voice!

As far as Female Vocalist goes, I am really hoping Carrie gets it this year. I'll be disappointed if she doesn't. Since 2006, Carrie has won it three times (2006-2008), Miranda has won it twice (2010 and 2011), and Taylor has won it once (2009). Although Taylor's new single has made a huge splash, she still took some time off and hasn't been quite as "active" (for her standards anyway) during the eligibility year (and technically, her new single did not fall within the eligibility period). With all the success she's had, she's only won the award once (in 2009, which I believe is the year she literally swept every single award show). Therefore, I think it's going to take another huge, colossal year to win it again. This year isn't it. Next year, we'll see.

Miranda is the one to beat, yet again. She's been a feel-good success story, working for years before finally getting recognized, and her and Blake are the new "country power couple." However, I think that this year, her hype is finally going down. She's still having good success and had a #1 single in Over You, but she doesn't seem as big or newsworthy here lately. She's won all kinds of awards, so no one can now say she hasn't been recognized. And, I think this power couple status is starting to wear a little thin on people.

I think the industry has been hesitant to give Carrie her fourth Female Vocalist win since that would tie Martina and Reba. However, over the past several years, Carrie has definitely proved she belongs in this category with them. She's had 2 #1 hits in the eligibility period (more than any other female, right?) and released a new album that has been selling really well and consistently, especially for not being released around the holidays. It's also an album that has had pretty solid reviews (much better than her former album Play On, so that's a big step up). Finally, Blown Away (the single) is blowing up on radio and in sales.

I am hoping the industry will realize the huge impact she's made throughout her entire career and finally reward her that fourth FV trophy. Although Miranda has had a really good (or great) career, I feel she hasn't really earned a third FV win to tie Carrie right now.

At 80 years old, Loretta Lynn is one country music legend who has only continued to perfect her sound and her style throughout the years — and she’s still going strong. Although she admits that modern country music is more like the old school pop music she’s used to, she likes the recent sound, and she’s quick to tip her well-worn cowgirl hat to new artists.

“Country today is like pop music was 40 years ago, that’s the way I see it,” Lynn told Access Atlanta in a recent interview. “But I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I like the polished sound of country, even though I’m as country as cornbread.”

Lynn is country through and through, but that didn’t stop her from making her most recent with rock and roll star Jack White in 2004 — nearly a decade ago. As accomplished in the recording studio as he is on the guitar, White produced Lynn’s award-winning ‘Van Lear Rose’ album.

The ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ icon, who just became a great-gradmother, admits she’s preparing her next move musically, but she does take time to notice country ‘newcomers,’ citing Carrie Underwood as someone she really admires.

“I think she is one of the best girl singers today,” Lynn said of the ‘Good Girl’ hitmaker. “She can sing anything.”

Right now, Lynn has no plans to team up with Underwood for an album — at least that she mentioned. She’s looking forward to collaborating with Merle Haggard, who is one of the artists on her bucket list of people she plans to record with before she retires — if she ever retires, that is.

“Me and Merle Haggard are going to do a record,” Lynn revealed. “He hasn’t lost one note of his voice. I want to record a song with him that he wrote, ‘Today I Started Loving You Again.’”

She added that she also loves Alan Jackson, and would like to record with him, too, at some point. Hilariously, Lynn shared that she would like to put down some music, but they’re too slow for her — even though they’re younger than she is.

“Me and my sisters were supposed to record together, but Crystal Gayle [her youngest sister] is so doggone slow! It takes her 10 years to walk across town. If they want to record with me, they know where I’m at,” Lynn said.

Any country singer who knows what’s good for them would jump at a chance to record with a name like Loretta Lynn, but the Queen of Country already has dozens of songs stockpiled for her upcoming albums with or without accomplices.

“Well, I’ve got 60-something things cut already. I’ve got a Christmas album, two religious albums. I’m gonna put ‘em out and get ‘em on the radio,” she spilled, adding that she’s still got things she wants to do before she’s done making music. “I want to have more hits. Giving up is for quitters! No one says anything anymore [in songs]. They need me out there.”

She sang that for the Season 6 Idol finale, correct? It's probably not up because it was only offered for a limited time, if it was offered at all...

I don't have it, so I doubt it was ever available. Otherwise, I'd likely have it.

Sometimes we take voices like Carrie's for granted, cause we hear her all the time. But, she really is a special talent. She is aguably one of the best vocalists in all of music right now. Even non-fans have to agree, she's something special.

Branching off of that, but I do think that BA will still outpeak GG on the Hot 100. BA is Top 30 and still climbing on the Hot 100, and GG peaked at #18. I think BA is capable of outdoing that.

Carrie Underwood celebrates No. 1 song in Nashville

Country superstar Carrie Underwood celebrated her 12th number one song in Nashville on Tuesday afternoon.

BMI and ASCAP hosted the party for Underwood and the writers of "Good Girl."

The award winning singer told Nashville's News 2 she believes the song is a success because it is one that every woman can relate to.

"I feel like probably everybody has at some point either been that person that has been the good girl and then one day the eyes were opened and the person they were dating was not what they thought they were," Underwood said.

Carrie Underwood Celebrates 15th Chart Topper

Faced with a little free time on her hands during a trip to Los Angeles, Carrie Underwood had a decision to make. "It was go shopping or go write with these two," she says gesturing to Chris DeStefano and Ashley Gorley (pictured above with Carrie). "I think I made the right decision."

Choosing songwriting over shopping indeed proved to be the right move that day as the trio penned Carrie's No. 1 hit "Good Girl," the first single from her current album Blown Away.

Carrie, Ashley and Chris were honored with a No. 1 party on Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 28) in Nashville at the Country Music Association's offices. "Good Girl" is Carrie's 15th No. 1 song, and the Oklahoma born entertainer was a co-writer on seven of those hits. It was the very first No. 1 for Chris, who divides his time between LA and Nashville, and it was the eighth No. 1 for Ashley, whose other chart-toppers include Carrie's "All American Girl," Darius Rucker's "It Won't Be Like This for Long," Trace Adkins' "You're Gonna Miss This" and Brad Paisley's "Then" and "American Saturday Night."

"I actually crashed Chris and Ashley's writing session," Carrie says of how their collaboration that day happened. "They were writing in LA and I had a day off. I said 'Can I come?' So I showed up and they kind of had this groove going, because Chris DeStefano is like a little mad scientist. He has this giant setup in his apartment that is all Pro Tools and he can play just about any instrument you can think of, so by the end of a couple hours there we had a demo in our hands to walk out with."

Though it was one of the last songs she wrote, it became the album's first single. "When you think of a first single from a new album, I like the thought of having something uptempo and fun because I go sing it everywhere," Carrie says. "I thought it would be a great one to kick everything off with because it's just fun [for] spring and summertime and it's a lot of fun to sing. People can sing along and have fun with it."

Carrie says she took a different approach in writing for the Blown Away album. "I wanted to switch up my writing style because I felt like I would block off a month or two to go and write," she explains. "Most of my good songs were at the beginning of it when I was super excited and going in to write. I have a short attention span so this time we really broke everything up. I'd go write for a week then I'd go do something else, then I'd come back and write for a few days then go do something else. That definitely produced better results cause it was always new. I didn't get into a routine writing."

Over the course of writing for her four albums, Carrie's confidence has grown. "I definitely feel more comfortable in my role as a writer," she admits, "and lucky enough to write with some really amazing people that I learn something new from every time I'm in the room with them."

Carrie's current single, "Blown Away," is at No. 12 this week on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and climbing. "The first time I heard 'Blown Away' I just loved it so much because it was different than anything I'd heard before and that was really attractive to me," Carrie says of the Josh Kear/Chris Tompkins penned tune. "No matter how many albums I make, I want them to all sound different, be different and have different kinds of songs on them. That one was just so dramatic and it was just juicy. When we got in to record it, it was just amazing to watch it all come together."

Every time she enters the studio, Carrie is mindful of giving her fans the very best she can. "In today's market, you can't just have an album with three singles and filler," she says. "You have to make sure every single song is amazing and could potentially be a single, which makes all of us work harder."

I know Carrie cut ties with Arista New York around the beginning of the 'Carnival Ride' era, but perhaps she has a new deal with RCA to help promote material to other formats? RCA would certainly be more equipped to do that than Arista Nashville.

Interesting. I think Carrie and her label realize the true potential of this song and don't want to pass it up. Hopefully this means something. Pumped.
