Those are excellent ratings... I think.
Also, does anyone know if Carrie's performing tonight on 'Fallon', or just talking?

WOW! Listen to that b-flat at the end of Do-Re-Me. Pure, strong, beautiful tone in her head voice. And she does it so effortlessly. The vocal training is definitely showing. Wish there was a better quality clip, but this will do.

Can anyone say Golden Globe win for Carrie. It could happen. Just her voice alone gives her an edge. She's going against heavyweights, well-known actresses and others who have garnered critical acclaim for their performance in the category Jessica Lange, Helen Mirren, Helena Bonham Carter, Laura Linney, Elisabeth Moss, and Gillian Anderson are all contending for a nomination and win. I'm hoping for at least a nomination but it's a David vs. Goliath scenario. Here's a look at the category from Gold Derby: One editor (out of 7) included Carrie in his prediction of nominees: www.goldderby.com/awardshows/editors/golden-globes-(tv)-nominations-2013-nominations/tv-movie_mini-actress.html Have these people even seen the finished product, since the show is still in rehearsal mode. Will there be time for them to see the finished product? Perhaps the nomination predictions can/will be changed after the shows debut. I believe a clip was sent to this body in order for the show to become eligible. I have no idea what all was sent, but it obviously made them eligible. And Carrie getting the vote by even one of these people for an unfinished product is fantastic. And yes I believe her vocals in this production are polished and stellar.

There is a subtle change in her vocals and a significant change in her high notes. She certainly is exploring different aspects of her voice and it all sounds fantastic! Can hardly wait to see how this impacts on her next album.

I was iffy about watching SOM, but after watching the show last night I was convinced. What a terrific cast and Carrie sounds amazing. I now can't wait to see the show next week.

This is cute. She should cover "Wrecking Ball" for real.

The interview was HILARIOUS! I think it's my favorite she's ever done for the late night shows. Her facial expressions are priceless! And ROFL at her theory.

This is cute. She should cover "Wrecking Ball" for real. I love Carrie, but that just made me see how great Miley's vocal on that song is; she really is a force on that song. But, yeah, the interview was great, and I can't believe Carrie was doing all of that with only a week left until the live TSOM. What a work ethic.

I feel like in the Carrie timeline, there should be a pre-TSOM era and a post-TSOM era. What she's learned from being involved in this project is already so evident in the way she sings and carries herself. Everything she's done since has been absolutely stellar! From hosting the CMAs to performing her medley to this Jimmy Fallon appearance-- she seems so much more confident and expressive, and comes across so naturally herself. It's amazing to watch. Whatever happens next Thursday, the experience itself has already been more than worth it.. for her and for me!

From one of the Broadway message boards (which I won't link to prevent a barrage of people going there and possibly changing the "atmosphere"): ETA: A child wrangler working with the production disputes the claims above-- twitter.com/doulasandi

It's not like the person was saying they pre-filmed scenes that they will air during the live broadcast - just that they've filmed the full show a few times to review for themselves so they can critique camera angles, performances, etc. I actually think it'd be a big mistake if they didn't do this, as it's a great idea. The original poster was pretty specific in his/her comments, so it doesn't sound made up. Hmmm...

A few weeks back I addressed the possibility of safety tapings just in case. While these 'leads' are unconfirmed and possibly disproved at this point, I don't think it's unreasonable to believe they actually have/will run through and film multiple takes. Not only for rehearsal purposes, but also for safety purposes JUST INCASE something goes wrong; illness, set issues, etc... I really don't take issue with that at all... I'm sure what we see on TV will be 100% live, but a project like this is a massive sacrifice of sorts, so it makes sense to take safety precautions just incase.
Perhaps by "scenes" this person could have been referring to all the filmed promotional clips they've done. There are tons of different ones out there, and some are quite long: "Do Re MI", so that person could have been referring to those?...

But, considering that The Making of the Sound of Music came in second behind the biggest rating grabber, and it was the making of the show and not the show itself , I too, thought that relatively speaking TMOTSOM was an excellent rating.

And it's the demo number: 3.2 that's important, which is EXCELLENT, not the raw number of viewers - which was quite impressive as well.

I had no idea this SOM thing was happening. I wish her luck. I think she is going to do a really great job.
She was amazing on Fallon. She needs to cover 'Wrecking Ball'.

To be accurate though, the all-important 18-49 demo rating was 1.0. So the special did okay but its ratings can't be described as "excellent." You're right that ratings are usually considered more important than total number of viewers, BUT it's the 18-49 demo that they look at. So on the night of the TSOM special, it ranked #5 in total viewers for all shows that night but it ranked #7 (tie) by 18-49 rating. www.spoilertv.com/2013/11/ratings-news-28th-november-2013.htmlETA:

So it was a very good beginning. In addition, while it would be amazing if SOM beat everyone in the ratings I do think that, is a rather lofty expectation, but not impossible.. Also, I don't believe it has to be number 1 in the ratings to be considered a success.

Also, I don't believe it has to be number 1 in the ratings to be considered a success. I agree completely. I honestly didn't even want to join in on the ratings discussion, but my OCD was kicking in and I couldn't stop the numbers-lover inside me from speaking out. I stand by what I said a few posts above that this whole event is more significant than ratings or sales, but as Pulse is a music board where numbers play a significant role in discourses, I'll post now what my numbers geek 'pie-piece' has been wanting to. Here are NBC's 18-49 ratings/viewers for the Thursday before Thanksgiving (Nov 21) for the timeslots to be occupied by TSOM on 12/5: 8:00 Parks & Recreation- 1.0/2.94 million 8:30 Parks & Recreation- 1.0/2.69 million 9:00 Sean Saves The World- 0.9/2.97 million 9:30 The Michael J. Fox Show- 0.9/2.8 million 10:00 Parenthood- 1.2/3.61 million So if TSOM rates higher than 1.2 and gets more than 3.61M viewers, it would already be doing better than NBC's usual line-up. However, of course they're expecting more from TSOM because of the enormity of the production AND the consequent amount of money they've put in AND the significance of such a project (networks have been battling for an audience that watches live and not on playback, figuring out programming that will achieve that and thus lead to more advertisers; TSOM is NBC's attempt). I think Carrie's very SOLID showing for her All-Star Holiday Special last 2009, which averaged 8.5M viewers across 2 hours has been looked at and considered. So will Garth Brooks' live concert Friday (1.8/ 8.745M) and Gaga's Thanksgiving Muppet Special (0.9/3.6M).

Another great feature, this one addressing and focusing on the criticism and doubt re: the casting of Carrie as Maria. With all these articles coming out, along with the Today Show host's comment that she visited the set, it looks like various media people have been invited to watch rehearsals. Carrie Underwood stars in ‘The Sound of Music Live!’Excerpts:

I'm not saying the ratings for the Making Of were bad, I just don't see where they can be connected to "smash." I think it's clear more people will watch the actual production than a making of, but I don't know how many. Maybe at least 10 million viewers? I'd like to think it will get more than that, though.
I wonder how many viewers it needs to be seen as a big success. I'm sure the tie-ins like the making of, the soundtrack, etc. help bring in some revenue as well. How does ad revenue for the actual telecast work? Have companies already paid for the ad time, or do they pay after the fact based on ratings?

anything above a 2.0 in the demo would be considered a success. if it somehow gets above a 3.0 it would be hailed a MEGA SMASH.
im not a carrie stan nor do I love this musical. BUT that fact that it will be LIVE is going to really help it. Ill be watching it LIVE.

I was surprised to hear Carrie tell Jimmy Fallon that she has a thing for remembering songs and movie quotes and that the script for TSOM will always be in her head. Didn't she write song lyrics on her hand during AI to remember them?
