Dead Letter Circus' new single "Wake Up." I like it on first listen, hopefully it'll be pushed to the U.S.

They played it live when I saw them a few weeks ago, and I thought it was awesome! I haven't listened to the studio version yet, but I'll check it out during my weekly music-listening binge.
Related to that, when I saw them open for Fair To Midland, I talked to FTM's guitarist Cliff who gave me a lot of insight into how eOne's radio promotion works and why Pop Evil got a different type of push from FTM. I don't think it's appropriate for me to turn into public knowledge, but message me if you're interested in how it works.

That's absolutely terrible news :( I'm a huge Beastie Boys fan and I don't know how they'll move on from here. It was always the three of them since the early 80s. RIP Adam.

Wow. www.rollingstone.com/music/news/tom-gabel-of-against-me-comes-out-as-transgender-20120508Tom Gabel of Against Me! Comes Out as TransgenderSinger reveals plans to begin living as a woman in the new issue of Rolling Stone By Rolling Stone May 8, 2012 9:45 PM ET Against Me! singer Tom Gabel reveals plans to begin living as a woman in the new issue of Rolling Stone. Gabel, who has dealt privately with gender dysphoria for years, will soon begin the process of transition, by taking hormones and undergoing electrolysis treatments. Gabel will eventually take the name Laura Jane Grace, and will remain married to her wife Heather. "For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news," says Gabel. "But she's been super-amazing and understanding." Gabel only told a handful of family and friends about her plan to transition before talking to Rolling Stone. Because this is the first time a major rock star has come out as transgender, the singer made a point of speaking openly about it. "I'm going to have embarrassing moments," says Gabel, "and that won't be fun. But that's part of what talking to you is about – is hoping people will understand, and hoping they'll be fairly kind." The full story of Gabel's transformation is in the latest issue, on newsstands this Friday (May 11th). In it, the singer tells Josh Eells about her history of gender dysphoria, the specifics of the transition process and what becoming Laura Jane Grace will mean for the future of Against Me!

I'm kind of stunned as well. I mean, who are we to judge him/her for their decision, but I feel Against Me! will never be the same. A bit weird that his/her wife is staying with him/her too, unless she knew all throughout their marriage.

Suddenly the lyrics to "The Ocean" make much more sense.

And I don't know what kind of voice therapy she might go through. This transition might shift her artistic perspective slightly, but I doubt it will change the band's sound.

S/he's apparently said in an article that s/he doesn't plan on going through with the vocal change just yet, so for right now it's still just gonna be the same voice.

This seems like the appropriate place to pose this question:
Does your alternative station speed up songs?

I don't think anyone wants to say too much in fear of being labeled politically incorrect. This is certainly shocking, though.

I have a General Rock Discussion Question for everyone on this board. I'm attending the Bamboozle concert this weekend in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The Alternative bands that caught my eye early on are Incubus, Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, and All American Rejects. More recently, My Chemical Romance has been added replacing Blink 182 who pulled out because of a medical emergency. I looked at the Mediabase Top 40 Alternative songs yesterday and didn't see any of the top 40 artists on the concert schedule. Does anyone know other bands that are playing that I should make an effort to see? Thanks,
Rich

Ones that would interest me besides the ones you listed: - Skrillex - Volbeat - Anti-Flag - Periphery (probably a Jamie recommendation) - Bon Jovi - The Gaslight Anthem - Boys Like Girls - Buckcherry - Marianas Trench - Outasight

- Periphery (probably a Jamie recommendation) Yessir! I would definitely recommend checking them out if you like any heavy stuff anyway. They definitely have some melodic stuff too. "Jetpacks Was Yes!" is probably their most accessible song if you're trying to gauge your interest in them.

Thanks DJ-O, I did see Skrillex. Actually, you couldn't miss him Friday night after Incubus. He commanded the stage and it was infectious; I was surprised a DJ (other than DJ-O) could command that presence. I also stopped by to see Volbeat Friday night, to me they had a very System of a Down feel. I loved their tribute to Johnny Cash in Sad Man's Tongue. Bamboozle wouldn't let me miss Bon Jovi, all the other stages were empty while he performed, and I also saw The Gaslight Anthem, Boys Like Girls, Buckcherry, and Marianas Trench, though the sound system was messing up bad right after Mariana's Trench performed so I didn't see a complete performance from Gaslight Anthem, Boys Like Girls, or Buckcherry. I really liked Mariana's Trench, I'll look for their record. Couldn't make it work for Anti-Flag, Periphery, or Outasight, darn.
All in all, a pretty great weekend for someone who loves music. Add to that the Foo Fighters putting on one of the two - four BEST rock shows I've ever seen, and I'd say it was a pretty good use of my time! Thanks for the suggestions, and the intro to Volbeat and Mariana's Trench!

Does anyone know where (and if) "My Apocalypse" by Metallica peaked on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart? Wikipedia says it peaked at #8, and I definitely know that's right.

^ Allmusic says #38 on Billboard. That sounds about right, thanks. Allmusic says "One" also peaked at #35 on the Hot 100. That's really surprising.

^ Well, back then it was only physical singles that were used to compile the Hot 100. That position sounds about right for "One." Actually I would have expected it to be a bit higher. It wasn't a huge hit on rock radio back then either, which I thought was strange, because to this day it is one of the band's most memorable tracks.

Even their self-titled was edgy for its time, compared to what the Rock charts were playing. I always thought "One" was more of an underground success.

Wondering what ever happened to Default? Lead singer Dallas Smith made a country album which was released this past week. :o
I heard his voice on country radio, but I sort of dismissed it, thinking it couldn't have been him. Then, when I was browsing the Canadian country chart, I seen his name in the Top 10 and got a nice surprise! Apparently he has two Top 10 country hits under his belt in Canada. Here are the two singles here:

The new Mumford & Sons album comes out September 24, 2012! I will not let Artie have the pleasure of making a new thread for a new single. I must succeed! Or at least have Mods change the title of the thread so it won't irritate me as much.

Is anybody else having trouble logging in to All Access? The login button simply won't work for me. I use Firefox, if that makes a difference.
