From the band that brought us the hit single "Take Your Time (Do It Right)", this is quite an underapreciated ballad. I rediscovered it a few years on a Chicago radio station and I couldn't believe how great of a song it was. In my book, this ranks among the best R&B ballads of the entire 80s.

This is THE SOUL cut!! This is the first time I even heard the name the SOS Band, because I saw the video back in 1984. If anyone dares to remake this classic, it better be good!

Not my favourite by them, but still good. They were great at what they did.

Heard this one today for the first time. It caught me off-guard for a moment because it sounded rather out of place for early 1984. It was actually kind of nice to hear, just because it's so different by comparison.
Then, I looked it up - and quickly found out why. Their 1983 On the Rise album, from which this song comes from, is one of the earliest Jam/Lewis productions. You might recognize this song in particular if you've heard remixes to Mariah's "Always Be My Baby"; this song was sampled for one of them.
It reached #65 on the Hot 100, and #5 on the Black Singles chart (which is what the R&B chart was named then).

Definitely my favorite S.O.S. Band song, the production is gorgeous on this one. Also, doesn't hurt that the vocals are on point too.

Does the search function still work? I didn't realize this already had a thread and didn't feel like digging through the 100+ pages for one. I'm just wondering if there's an easy way to find out if there's already a thread for a song.

If you type in "tell me if you still care" (for instance) followed by "site:http://pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi", you're much more likely to find the thread you're looking for. :)

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were perfection in the 80's. Everything they touched was amazing. They're stuff with the SOS Band is ace, this is classic quiet storm right here.
Monica's remake on her debut album is also cute.

My 2nd favorite song from them after "Just Be Good To Me". Often her this song and the other one I just mentioned as 80s gold on V103 and WGCI when I was younger. Too bad, this song and their other mid-80s songs didn't make an impact on the pop charts despite being R&B hits back then. I prefer this song & "Just Be Good To Me" over the corny "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" by a mile.

I love this song so much. My favorite single is probably "No One's Gonna Love You".
