There's no other way to start a discussion about Prince except for this....he is an AMAZING artist! No denying his talent --- he writes songs, plays instruments, produces, sings, and dances exceptionally. I've been getting into his discography lately and never realized just how prolific his creative output was outside of his popular singles. He's still touring on a consistent basis and keeps his life private. I wanted to make this thread to discuss his music as well as post updates. Some of my favorite songs from him are "Soft and Wet", "I Wanna Be Your Lover", "Do Me, Baby", "Pop Life", "Purple Rain", "Darling Nikki", "If I Was Your Girlfriend", "Adore", "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man", "When 2 R In Love", "Scandalous", "Gett Off", "Come", "Somebody's Somebody", and "Black Sweat".

You need to get into: Little Red Corvette (Dance Remix) Raspberry Beret (12" version)
His extended and dance remixes are some of the best in the world. I love 80s experimental Prince.

Yeah, Prince sets the bar high for extended versions. I used to have the 12" of Pop Life and Raspberry Beret on vinyl and I am only here for those versions. His B-sides are also amazing. I hate his Hits 1 & 2 collections because of the severe edits made to songs, just as they are getting good (i.e. the aforementioned, Little Red Corvette and most egregiously, Adore). The full version of Adore is pure heaven. Without you there iiiiiiis no meeee, there iiiis no meeee...without there iiiis NO SEA! There is no SHOAH! Love.is.too.weak.to.define.how.I.adore. YOU CHILE. YOU CHILE. I mean, honestly, I was raised on Prince and Michael Jackson and they informed my musical tastes at a very young age (age 4 to be exact). I even saw Purple Rain in theaters! I had to cover my eyes for the n00d scenes though To be honest, I feel that Prince peaked in the 1990s but he did have a few solid albums recently - 3121 (I think it was called, LOL) and the one either before or after. For all his prolific output, his quality control can sometimes suffer but his late 70s and 80s output is pure perfection. Few have a voice as elastic and dynamic as his and his falsetto is so clear and precise. The song Purple Rain is actually one of my "desert island" songs, i.e. a song that, if I had no other songs and was stranded on a desert island, I would die without. I saw Natasha Bedingfield cover it and almost passed out at how amazing of a job she did. Prince would have been proud to see/hear it. I wonder if he has ever heard her version or Tori Amos's, for that matter. That song has the power to make me cry.

Listening to his albums in full in the order they were released and I've made it up to "Sign O' The Times". There's dozens of b-sides I have yet to listen to, let alone albums. I'll be going on a purchasing rampage soon! I prefer listening to his extended versions rather than the radio edits. Hope he makes it down to Florida for a tour soon.

Ugh. Prince, the genius, he is. I love "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World", "I Would Die 4 U", "Adore", and so much more that was listed. This man exhibits a certain quality that isn't witness in many artists. How he captures the essence of true musicianship is something for the record book. I honestly believe he is the most influential artist in today's R&B. Everybody wants to be Prince and I don't blame them.

I even saw Purple Rain in theaters! I had to cover my eyes for the n00d scenes though Wow, you just brought back memories for me. My uncle had a bootleg VHS copy of it about a year after it came out. It was always in constant rotation! My cousins and I were forced to cover our eyes, too, but before long we knew exactly when the scenes were coming up. Of course, we peeked.

He is truly one of the best songwriters of all time. Listening to his albums and comparing it to his contemporaries and the music of today, there is no competition...his passion and dedication is soooo admirable. :)

I saw him live three times when he was at the Forum last year and I became convinced he is the undisputed epitome of artistry and entertainment. NO ONE does it like him.

^ Three times? In one year? WOW!
I'm sure each show was different. Prince in concert is an experience I cannot wait to be part of. He completely gives himself to each song and I like how he and the band are one unit.

He completely gives himself to each song and I like how he and the band are one unit. It was. He switched up the set list each time and the show was no less epic each time; you can't even get mad at what may be omitted simply because damn near EVERYTHING he has done is sick. And I loved how he had a variety of opening acts from Chaka to Gwen to Ledisi to KING to Esperanza.

^ Nice! I've read that he brings many celebrities on stage to dance or sing a line or two.

This is the first song I heard from Prince when I was 3/4 years old. I've been playing the heck out of it since yesterday. What a lovely piece of art!

I had been familiar with some of Prince's music when I was growing up, but it wasn't until I heard "Gold" that I really took notice and became a lifelong stan.

I got the Prince Ultimate CD at Target yesterday, it was on sale for $12.99! Cannot get "She's Always In My Hair" out of my head! And I'm posting this because it just makes me feel good. ;)

Watched a little of Under The Cherry Moon on Netflix last night...he makes some crazy films hehe. Then today I went to my local FYE at Sawgrass Mills Mall to buy some Prince, Whitney Houston, and Sade albums. I ended up walking away with the Batman Soundtrack ($7), Come ($5), and 3121 ($3)! They also have Prince, Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day, Sign O' The Times, Graffiti Bridge, The Hits, New Power Soul, and Ultimate Prince albums in stock and the DVDs available were Live at the Aladdin, Rave Un2 The Joy 2000, and Diamonds & Pearls Video Collection. I'll work on getting those later (except for Purple Rain and Ultimate Prince, which I already have). No sign of For You, Dirty Mind, Parade, Lovesexy, Diamonds & Pearls, Love Symbol Album, The Gold Experience, Emancipation, Chaos & Disaster, Crystal Ball, Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, Planet Earth, or Musicology, which I'll be getting from Amazon most likely.

I watched both Under the Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge on Netflix last week. You can tell the production value decreased from Purple Rain. In the long run it didn't matter because the Soundtracks made up for it. I also would recommend Amazon for the more rare albums. I got about 7 CDs of his for around $20.

Yeah, his movies aren't so great. I haven't seen any of his live DVDs except for Sign o' the Times. Highly recommended.

I could follow Under The Cherry Moon, but Graffiti Bridge was absolutely confusing. Morris Day made the movie for me though! I'll definitely be getting the more rare CDs on Amazon and also better prices. At the store, Sign O' The Times is $25 and Hits & B-Sides together is $32.
