I no longer am amazed by 21's showing- it's now expected that it will keep slaying. Anything less would be a flop.

With only a week to go before the Grammys, Adele holds on to the #1 spot for an astounding 19th week. As of now, one more week will tie the Bodyguard soundtrack for the most weeks at #1 in the SoundScan era. Next up will be MC Hammer's Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, which spent 21 weeks at #1 in 1990. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend: Adele (XL/Columbia) 100-110k *Lana Del Rey (Interscope) 60-65k *Leonard Cohen (Columbia) 35-40k 2012 Grammy Nominees (Universal Republic) 30-35k Tim McGraw (Curb) 28-32k *Fred Hammond (Verity) 27-30k Drake (YM/CM/Universal Republic) 27-30k Kidz Bop 21 (Razor & Tie) 25-28k Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 19-22k Tony Bennett (Columbia) 19-22k Young Jeezy (Def Jam/IDJ) 18-21k Mary J. Blige (Geffen) 18-21k LMFAO (Interscope) 17-20k Kelly Clarkson (19/RCA) 17-20k Black Keys (Nonesuch) 17-20k Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 17-20k *Debuts (2/2p) It's interesting to see very little country represented in these estimates. Could Luke Bryan really be on his way back to the top of the Country Albums chart after this week? It would look that way, given he's otherwise only really neck-to-neck with Lady Antebellum and possibly Jason Aldean, while Tim McGraw will likely continue to slide. Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

Tim McGraw has a decent second week, only a drop of bit over 50% it seems.
Lady Antebellum might go on selling very well during the spring because the new single (DAWMH) is getting a brilliant response. It's like a NYN-lite.
Also, am I the only (crazy) one who expects MJ's Number Ones to jump into top 20/40 after the Glee fame?

I think they may have under estimated Lana's sales (especially after Letterman) but time will tell. Amazingly the US seems to be proportionately one of her least successful countries, lol. I'm sure they will eventually realise what most of Europe have already picked up on.

I no longer am amazed by 21's showing- it's now expected that it will keep slaying. Anything less would be a flop. A few years ago, every album that hit one million was a hit for me, now that's over. Unless you sell 4 million, it's floppin'! Thanks Adele!

Lana Del Rey and Leonard Cohen: Billboard Top 10 Bound
February 03, 2012 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
Lana Del Rey's major label full-length debut album, "Born to Die," is off to a fast start. Industry sources say that the set may sell between 60,000 to 70,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Feb. 5. That should easily give the album at No. 2 debut on the Billboard 200 chart next week.
So it's no surprise to see Del Rey is sitting at No. 2 on Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below). The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (ending Sunday, Feb. 5) as reported by six major merchants.
Veteran singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen could capture his first top 10 album ever as "Old Ideas" may also arrive in the top 10 on the Billboard 200. (On the Building list, it is No. 7.) Sources say that the set may sell around 40,000. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has never been higher than No. 63, when 1969's "Songs From a Room" reached its peak.
As for No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week? Expect Adele's "21" to notch a 19th frame atop the list.
Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart
Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title
1 1 Adele "21" 2 NEW Lana Del Rey "Born To Die" 3 4 Various Artists "2012 Grammy Nominees" 4 2 Tim McGraw "Emotional Traffic" 5 9 Drake "Take Care" 6 6 Kidz Bop Kids "Kidz Bop 21" 7 NEW Leonard Cohen "Old Ideas" 8 8 Seal "Soul 2" 9 16 Rihanna "Talk That Talk" 10 NEW Fred Hammond "God, Love & Romance"
The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

It would look that way, given he's otherwise only really neck-to-neck with Lady Antebellum and possibly Jason Aldean, while Tim McGraw will likely continue to slide. Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS The country releases were actually all selling quite well over the holidays, with Lady A and Scotty trading off at #1, Luke and Jason selling steadily, and Toby even snagging a recent week at #1. While Luke may move back ahead of Tim in the coming weeks, don't forget about Dierks Bentley. He could probably get 2 weeks at #1 at least, maybe more. Hard to say. He's on the 2nd single, and it's solidly in the top 10, but hasn't exactly been tearing up iTunes. Still, "Am I The Only One" went #1 last fall and was certified Gold, and Dierks' commerical status is returning to his pre-"Up On The Ridge" level. Craig Morgan releases on Feb. 28, but I doubt he sells much. Casey James will release his debut on March 20...that one could do well as the debut single continues to climb into the top 30, and he has an Idol fanbase. I don't think it'll be a huge sales success, but we did see Danny Gokey open with around 70k, I believe (before his career quickly faded). Casey also opened for Sugarland last year. Lionel Richie's country album is out March 27, and then Rascal Flatts on April 3 and Carrie Underwood on May 1. But much of February and March still looks wide open, as most of the superstars seem to have albums in the works, likely for 3rd/4th quarter releases this year.

Luke Bryan's Spring Break 4 EP (out in 1st or 2nd week of March) might challenge for #1. It's digital only, but I think 30k might be enough for Country #1 album due to weak competition.

Besides Lana debuting #2, there's nothing exciting about this week. Adele is #1. Like that hasn't happened 18? times already..

Based on Billboard's report, Celebration is poised to pop in on the final chart.

I was just about to ask. So Celebration should show up on Hits, but I know it doesn't on Billboard, well at least the current chart. Bought two copies of Celebration today. :)

^Huh? All albums- regardless of age- are eligible for the Billboard 200. :) So Celebration will be on both the BB 200 and catalog chart.

I confuse the comprehensive or whatever it's called and the catalog, etc. But it's great that she will re-enter the BB200.

The BB 200 essentially turned into the comprehensive chart once BB changed the rules to allow catalog albums to chart (back in December 2009). In turn, Current Albums is what the BB 200 once had been.
And, yes, it is. :)
