I'll bet a "Million Dollar Bill" that Billboard is delaying the Hot 100 to decide whether or not to let catalog singles re-enter the Hot 100 due to the impressive sales of LWALY! I hope they don't allow it. If they're going to do that, they might as well just scrap the Hot 100 altogether and just have Hot Digital Songs be their main chart.I'll vouch for that.

The last time the Hot 100 was delayed this much was the first week Mariah's WBT went to #1.

I hope they do allow it. They went through problems when Michael Jackson died and after that in the end they changed the albums chart to include catalog albums to reflect what is really selling in the market. Why would they go for a different policy now that Whitney died. Everybody was buying her songs and in my opinion that deserves to be show in the Hot 100. I would guess they will go for the same policy in both charts.

It would be nice. We would all like to see the TRUE top 100, doubt it will happen though

Why would they go for a different policy now that Whitney died. . They're wouldn't be... they didn't allow Michael Jackson's catalog songs on the Hot 100, either. The reason is, the Billboard 200 is a sales-only chart. The Hot 100 is a combination of number of factors, mainly airplay and sales, of course. It's supposed to register what's "hot." In my opinion, sympathy/memorial sales shouldn't count as "hot," because they're going to die down in a week or two anyway.

if they allowed us to see the 'true' top 100, I wonder if that chart would be more popular than the Hot 100 chart? maybe that factors in.

Don't Stop Believin' might have been #1 for 20 weeks tho. Nah, 'cause it never got anywhere near #1 on Hot Digital Songs. It's just the cumulative effect of constant low sales that has made it sell several million now.

It would be nice. We would all like to see the TRUE top 100, doubt it will happen though I already talked about that some moths ago and some people said Billboard never'd do that, 'cause they wanna show only new songs at the hot 100 and not what was the past. They don't want it I Gotta Feeling more than 3 years at the hot 100

I hope they don't allow it. I'd be thoroughly shocked if they were even considering such a thing. Whitney wasn't even half as legendary as MJ.

Yeah, but every other country that I've seen is sales-only and have no recurrent rules. Why's the US (and by default Canada) different?

Yes, I've been waiting for over a week to find out if Madonna will match Elvis's 38 top ten songs.

Elvis had 36 top 10s on the Hot 100- the 38 stems from counting "Don't be Cruel"/"Hound Dog' as two singles and another- I personally don't mind counting Elvis' total as 38, but Billboard goes with 36.
RE catalog tracks- Billboard made it clear that it wants the Hot 100 chart to remain currents-based. Which makes sense. Albums are one thing- they can continue selling on and on, even with no push or promo. But with tracks, older ones usually see a big boost because of something unfortunate (a passing), use in ads and other media (i.e. Journey) or a highly viewed TV performance.

imbondz- for the actual publication, probably industry, mostly. At last check, the circulation was less than 100K- but, there's also the online interest, which likely has taken off in a big way in recent years.

OK, I'm going stressed... My prediction is Stronger at #1 and Madonna won't hit the top 10, and if it hit will be at #10, what I don't think. I'm wondering how much songs will fall out of the top 10 this week.

I know they don't, but Joel Whitburn does. I've never been able to figure out why Billboard doesn't, because the Hot 100 had a precursor that was basically formulated the same way, called the Billboard Top 100, which began running in late 1955. That was the very first airplay-sales-jukebox combo. (On which, it's worth mentioning, "Hound Dog" never hit #1, and neither did "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" -- both peaked at #2.) Technically, Elvis doesn't have even 36 top tens on the Hot 100, because the Hot 100 didn't even exist until two years after Elvis had his first hit single. In order to get him to even 36, you have to count either Billboard's Best Selling Singles (which is what Billboard counts) or Billboard's Top 100 (which is what Whitburn uses). And, anyway, we all know Madonna really has 38 top tens already, if you count "Into the Groove." ;)

If it's industry folk, then they will never show the 'true' hot 100. I no longer spend $ on Billboard magazine, just my time, so I am not their customer really anymore. It's amazing to me that Billboard doesn't charge to see the online charts. I'm not complaining cuz the magazine is expensive for a years subscription. I remember when I was a kid and first learned that there was a chart that included an entire Top 100, not just the Top 40 I heard on Sundays. I flipped out happy. lol and sad at the same time.

It's been proven before that Perez is not a reliable source
