This is pretty much another rehash of every Dr. Luke sounding song released by Britney/Katy/Kesha/Jessie J for the past 2-3 years. However, no one is tired of that sound yet so this will probably be MASSIVE.

I like this one! It's a lot catchier and more Pop-friendly than the other offerings from this new release. It feels like the little sister of "Turn Me On" (I only started to listen to that one and get into it in the last couple of weeks) and "Till The World Ends".
I like this a lot more than "Roman Holiday" (that one would work as an interlude, mixtape track, or even album track but not as a single--it's just too 'out there').

I think this song will smash and hope it does. After her Grammy performance, Nicki might need something to prove to the general audience that she's not a complete weirdo. With that said, as someone said on the first page, I don't think that side of her is "crap" and I definitely hope the sound of Starships isn't what makes up the rest of the album. I'm not here for pop-Nicki, I want weirdo-Nicki.

Nicki said she wasn't just another rap mc....she embraces that she's also a pop star. I love how she can release "hard" rap songs, then go and release a really poppy smash...I like variety :)
And really people she sold out now? Superbass was pretty damn poppy, radio fare with some rap runs..
Love this!

Its good, but she completely sold out with this cut. I don't get these comments, sold out WHAT exactly? You talk about her like this sort of alternative indie artist haha She was never "just a rapper" in the first place Did you hear the mess of "buzz" tracks she presented from this new album so far? Oh well, taste differs. I will be dancing my ass off to this one tho!

It's all about Diversity, and Versatility, and she wanted that.

I'm now officially obsessed with this.
This sounds like a David Guetta production though! Surprised it was done by Red One.
I at least commend Red One for doing something different, even if different for him is same old for everything else.

This is exactly what she needs! I'm actually impressed! I do agree w/ everyone who said RedONe is kind of ripping off Dr Luke/ Max Martin. I would expect this song to do some damage on the charts, similar to Super Bass. Oh god, I can only imagine what she has in store for the video.

This is an obviously easy target for critique given how much she is pandering to mainstream tastes. That said, this is an undeniable hit. Its template was clearly "Super Bass," which was very current but fresh at the same time. Same basic formula applies here. I hope she has a hard-hitting Urban song waiting in the wings though because this won't cross-over like "Super Bass" and she really needs to continue catering to that market if she doesn't want to alienate them completely.

This sums up my feelings well enough. My problem has very little to do with Nicki. Lyrically, it's shit, but most pop is these days. Her delivery is excellent though, and for what it is, she managed to fit Roman in the pop bracket without it feeling forced. Good for her. Now, about the production. RedOne is an incredibly capable producer, so it's a wonder we're left with this clusterfuck cut. It sounds like three completely different demos were thrown at the wall and we were left with the remains. Oh, but will this be a hit? Sure, why not?

This is pop smash waiting to happen but she probably should have done a dual release and given a something to urban for her fans as well.

I love this! Some of the lyrics are kind of cheesy though but that doesn't really matter obviously lol this will be the smash she needs. Really feel good. Also, I never got all the Nicki is a sellout talk. I remember her even saying before Pink Friday was out she loved pop music and I assumed she wanted to incorporate it into her music whether people liked it or not. Makes her really unique that she can do both pop and rap. Although I don't mind her leaning more to the pop side now after hearing the straight up rap tracks so far this era.
