This is easily my favourite of Whitney's studio albums. I listened to it today for the first time in probably 7 or 8 years.
I like all of the singles (though "When You Believe" is easily my least favourite). The remix of "It's Not Right But It's OK" really brought that song to life, but I much prefer the album version of "My Love Is Your Love". I like how this album was so current, but it didn't feel like she was chasing trends either. In addition to the singles, I also really like "I Bow Out", "If I Told You That", "I Bow Out" and "In My Business".
Unlike her other albums, I don't feel like there was really any filler on it. Solid effort from start to finish.

This is her best album. While her two monster 80s albums obviously had some of her classic singles, they were bogged down by a handful of really run of the mill adult contemporary sapfests. This album was very consistent. I actually loved this change of direction for Whitney and was looking forward to a lot more of this more urban Whitney. A lot of people started complaining about how much her voice deteriorated by the time this album came out, but I actually liked her voice when it was gritty and rough (although in a different way from her voice through the early 90s). Too bad it all went downhill after this though.

This is my favorite Whitney album, alongside I'm Your Baby Tonight. I love the fact that it is more R&B than adult contemporary. My favorites: INRBIO, the title track, Get It Back and I Bow Out. Hearbreak Hotel is good too.

<3 <3 <3 <3 This album so much. It gave me life with "If I Told You That," "You'll Never Stand Alone" (the 11 minute club mix of this is pure heaven), "Heartbreak Hotel," "I Learned from the Best," "Get It Back," the list goes on and on. I can't get enough of it.

I actually consider this album to be my least favorite of her 80s and 90s albums. I find it terribly overrated and it's my least played Whitney record so far. I just could never get into it that much as her previous ones. I feel like it lacks the magic that her first three albums had, and they were what turned her music into a classic. "Whitney" and "I'm Your Baby Tonight" are the ones I tend to go to and listen to the most.
Apart from "It's Not Right, But It's Okay", I found most of the uptempo tracks to be dull and stale. In My Business was my least favorite. It was much easier for me to get into the ballads more, especially "When You Believe" and "Until You Come Back". I like the uptempos on "I Look To You" so much better than the ones on here. I even like Just Whitney slightly better.
Brandy's Never Say Never, which was also produced by Rodney Jerkins, was the much superior album over this. I think the songs that Brandy and Rodney did together were so much better.

I'm a huge Whitney fan/stan and when this was first released I remember being a little disappointed with it. First the duet with Mariah was a let down. In time I ended up loving it. Then "Heartbreak Hotel" wasn't my thing instantly either... However when the cd came out "If I Told You That" and the three more traditional like ballads were pretty good with me. I loved "Until You Come Back" and "You'll Never Stand Alone" probably would have been my favorite but I thought it sounded slightly unpolished. (I was a picky fan) lol At the time though I thought "In My Business" dragged or didn't live up to expectations?? Maybe I'm antsy Nancy but "Oh Yes" was way to long for me. "Get It Back" started out good but could have been shortened a bit. I ended up LOVING "It's Not Right But It's Ok" it's a classic. It took me awhile and many live performances and remixes but I ended up liking the title track too. A couple of years after the release I started to appreciate "I Bow Out". The bridge is fierce. This is an RnB album and I realize people like to groove and chill to songs but a lot of them were to long for me. Now I don't mind and this cd has become a favorite of mine just like all of her other work. I was 22 at the time and going to clubs 5 nights a week so I was more into Dance/upbeat music or traditional ballads.

The singles are some of her strongest tracks and some of my favorite in the later years of her career.
Is it her best album? I dunno, Bodyguard might take that position for me.

This CD was a major grower upon release because I was expecting more Adult Contemporary fare from her but by the Spring of 1999, I was all in. Songs like "Get It Back", "Oh Yes", and "I Bow Out" are definite album track highlights here. It is a very solid album and one that she needed to do.

Easily her best album. This is the album she was trying to make with IYBT and didn't fully succeed at. There's three or four straight fillers on this, but the highlights and singles still sound so fresh and carry it. I adore the four singles (I like to pretend WYB doesn't exist) and the remix packages were life-giving. Her singing started getting more soulful circa Waiting To Exhale and it was great to hear her approach an album with that grittier singing style.

This would've been a perfect final album if she had wanted to release it, then The Greatest Hits and then retire to a quiet (mostly) normal life.

I actually agree with this post and am glad to read another opinion in line with mine when it comes to MLIYL. Everyone seems to diss Whitney's albums from the 80s and 90s and only cite this as her most consistent, solid all around album. People online are always "MLIYL!!!" when it comes to choosing Whitney's best album. I never got why people say that; most songs here are just... dull, I don't find them good at all in fact. The majority I mean, because I do like IITYT, WYB, ILFTB, HH, but again it's not like I consider any of them to be among Whitney's all time best.

Well, in my opinion Whitney never released a truly great album (with the possible exception of The Preacher's Wife), so when I say MLIYL is her best and most consistent album it's all relative. I think because MLIYL has a clear identity overall and is cohesive, it appeals to people as a body of work. Her first two albums feel like a few strong singles meant to appeal to various groups with the rest of the songs being filler. I'm Your Baby Tonight at least had a direction, but again it's also a lot of filler (all of the b-sides/bonus tracks are better than a few of the songs on the actual album which is puzzling).

Even though this was done in 2005, this is one of my favorite club mixes of Whitney's songs. It elevates this ballad IMHO.

Thereβs church bells in it that gives it a dark feeling and it builds up to a dance floor classic. Itβs actually just as good as the other classic remixes that were released from the βMLIYLβ project.

This is a favorite of mine. This album grew on me very much. Whitney really put her foot in this album. Her vocals are incredible. This is her best work. I still appreciate it more than ever.
