Didn't Bieber recently have 2 top 5 albums? Yes. But they weren't two top four albums. Ha -- I didn't even catch that. I think this is the first time I've ever seen a reference to the "top four" as a noteworthy achievement. |

I am impressed by the Civil Wars as well. They ended up making the top ten, just ahead of where HITS predicted. Very cool to see an abbreviated performance have this kind of impact for them.

Whitney is the only other album to cross 100k in 2012, but all Top 10 albums (and likely some in the teens) sold above 100k in 2000. Imagine if '21' came out in 2000. |

If '21' came out in 2000 it might not even be a hit at all. The sales levels are not just about Adele put out an album. It is about Adele put out an album that struck a chord with people at the exact time they were ready for that sound.
Adele's sound may not have struck the same chord in 2000

The biggest album sellers in 2000 were mainly teen pop acts (Britney and the boy bands) and acts all over MTV, like Eminem. And nu-metal, like Limp Bizkit  |

I'm pretty sure the people buying 21 are the ones that usually download music illegally, but 21 struck a chord with them that made them want to buy it. I don't think it would have been selling this much compared to other albums if released then.

Skrillex, Diplo & A-Trak: The Billboard Cover Story Over on the Digital Songs chart, Katy Perry's "Part of Me" makes its expected No. 1 debut, selling 411,000 downloads in its first week. It's the biggest sales week for a song since one year ago (chart dated March 5, 2011), when Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" was No. 1 with 509,000 in its first full week of release, and Cee Lo Green's "F**k You (Forget You)" was No. 2 with 412,000. Aside from Perry, there are two more debuts in the top 10 this week. Nicki Minaj's "Starships" sails in at No. 7 with 204,000, while Chris Brown's "Turn Up the Music" motors in at No. 9 with 180,000. if The Civil Wars had a full length performance I guess the sales could be higher and maybe become this year's Mumford & Sons. I wish they got nominated for Best New Artist as well but hey they already won 2 Grammys anyway And Adele, I won't get tired of saying WOW  |

Interesting to note that Someone Like You is on Now 41 and Rolling In The Deep is on the Grammy compilation album, meaning that Adele is featured on 4 of the top 5 albums this week.

I can't believe how many crazy coincidences and comparisons there are between Adele and Whitney, including the whole timing of The Bodyguard being overtaken and the video sales.

21 is only the fourth album in the history of The Billboard 200 to spend its first 52 weeks inside the top 10. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours spent its first 52 weeks in the top 10 in 1977-1978. Bruce Springsteen's Born In The U.S.A. spent its first 84 weeks in the top 10 from 1984 into 1986. Celine Dion's Falling Into You spent its first 59 weeks in the top 10 in 1996-1997.
Adele will eaisly pass both Fleet & Celine. It is def fpossible to pass Bruce, but it is a tad possible she wont, but not likley.

I wonder if she can manage to pass Alanis for most weeks in the top 10 in the Soundscan era. She had 72 weeks I believe.
I wouldn't be surprised if she does, to be honest. Her chart performance keeps surpassing our expectations.
