I remember before this era even started that I just wanted her career to continue on its strikingly similar trajectory as Pink's, and so far this era has proved to do the same. P!nk's first single was obviously bigger, but I wonder how their weekly sales line up--probably not too far off. I don't have huge expectations for this project selling so close to 2 million the way Funhouse has, but I wouldn't count that out, either.
The only capacity in which I feel they missed the boat a bit was not promoting "Don't You Wanna Stay" to pop more heavily. It bubbled around the top 50 for weeks after the label pulled the plug, and considering how well it did on AC and Hot AC, I really think it could have gone Top 20 with something as simple as an adds date. It would have helped propel her momentum to the launch of Mr. Know It All, and while I don't think it would have changed much about the song's performance, since "Don't You Wanna Stay" was included on Kelly's album, the first week sales may have been a little better had that song been more heavily exposed to Kelly's core audience. A minor, almost irrelevant quibble, but something I've been thinking about since listening to the song more recently.

If kelly can just get pass that damn 1 million mark lol which she has barely missed the last few albums, that will be the final icing on the cake for me. P!nk is a bigger more universal star. Kelly has to bust her chops a little more but is equally likeable and has a similiar very dedicated fanbase. Its just easier for P!nk to pump out larger album sales due to her look/marketing etc..

It's easy for us to think of Pink like that now, but she wasn't as big as she is now at the start of the Funhouse era. Her album didn't even open up with 200k in spite of how huge "So What" was. That era did wonders for her popularity, however, and she's arguably as well regarded and popular now as she's ever been in her career--but that came after a string of successful singles, a solid album, a jaw-dropping Grammy's performance, and two huge Greatest Hits singles.

Does anybody remember the add dates in the US compared to the UK for "Stronger"? I'd think that would give us a good indication of when they want to release it. I think a mid-late May add date would be perfect.

Stronger beat my expectations. It was definitely a hit to my ears when I first heard it, but I honestly never would have expected it to hit #1 pretty much across the board (and then stay high up as long as it has). This was my point. We all instantly heard the potential. Everyone hoped it would be HUGE but this is a bigger hit than she has ever had with such longevity, multiple weeks of 250K plus sales and a no.1 at Radio, nobody I think could truly say they saw this level of success.

This song seems like a perfect fit for the MTV Movie Awards on June 2. I'm sure they will be having the 1st trailer for the last Twilight movie.

Pretty sure the Twilight movies always use music from their soundtracks, which tend to be controlled by Stephenie Meyer. Given Kelly's Twi-fandom and the fact that she's written stuff in the past that would have fit well, I assume she's never been on a Twilight soundtrack because Meyer's not into her music. Kelly does not need to be involved with Twilight at all. It's bad enough her music was used on Glee, but I draw the line at Twilight.

Do you work in advertising or something or is this a project you are doing on Twitter or something? I'm just confused on how serious your post is. I find it interesting you mentioned it being on a major TV Network so I doubt it would be Twilight because what would that have to do with only one TV Network? Those trailers would be played on all channels and at movie theaters, not one specific channel.

I was wondering that, too, snookimonster. I know you're an "insider" and always have the inside dirt/news, but how exactly are you involved? Are you part of the record label, management, marketing, PR, what? Don't need to know any details, but I was just wondering. :)

LOL I'm pushing for this to be used on a trailer for a BIG big TV adaptation of an old movie that'll air on TV in a couple of months. They haven't sent out a press release so I can't say which movie, but a trailer has already been cut to Stronger, and I suggested this and they said they'd consider it.

Austarlia and UK dates announced. I'm going to guess May 15th for the adds date. Commecials playing a song are becoming a thing this year.

Full radio edit of the Billy Waters & Floor One dance remix sample that was posted a few weeks back. soundcloud.com/djbillywaters/kelly-clarkson-dark-sideLike I said in the album thread, I think this song lends itself to a more trance-y and "fluid"-sounding remix, but I like all the harmonies that are amplified here.

Well June 3rd UK release might or might not be accurate, but it makes some sense if the US adds date is sometime in May.

^I'm sure it will. If it is on a big TV network, and a trailer is shown a lot, why wouldn't it help?

I still feel positive this will smash. Release this to radio a month from now and follow that up with performances on Idol, The Voice, Billboard Music Awards, Duets, etc and I can see this blowing up on iTunes pretty quickly. I don't know if this will hit #1 (that'll come a lot down to timing), but I can't imagine this not going Top 5 at the least. I'm just anxious for it to take off already.

If this goes to radio in a month then performing on Idol will almost be pointless. It would be a good introduction for the song and the Idol finale always has huge ratings but it's not like performing during the adds week is going to do much when sales haven't even begun to pick up on iTunes and radio play is still just starting. I am not saying she shouldn't do Idol but I wouldn't rearrange my entire schedule and cause stress to squeeze it in, she can wait and do it on Duets deeper into the songs run and use her own show as a debut performance and use the promo spot to help push the song up the charts.

I guess I don't see what they hell they're waiting on? They haven't even given a release date or even really confirmed it to be the single officially. It's time to get the ball rolling. Granted it's only been about 3 months since Stronger was released, this needs to come out soon. Stronger flew up the chart really fast. It's like they have a formula set out of how they are doing things, and aren't wanting to make any changes, even when needed. Just get a 3rd damn single out to radio, RCA... DAMN!

I really do get the impatience, especially now seeing the album's lagging performance on iTunes (it hasn't been this low...ever, and should have bounced back from the standard edition's sale price by now), but it just feels agonizing now because we know "Stronger" is falling. But, look at it this way--it's still top 5 on CHR and top 3 on overall Airplay. It's being heard by just as many people now as when it was in the exact same position on the way up (i.e., a lot of people). It's still really big and RCA knows this is the album's smash (though I'm sure they're aware of "Dark Side"'s potential, it's more of a gamble), they are going to milk this for everything they've got to make it as big of a hit for her and them as possible. I wouldn't expect to hear anything about this song's release until maybe they see next week's album numbers, which I expect to drop a bit to be its lowest week so far (though still above 10k, so in the end not a huge deal). They aren't going to want the album to suffer, so I suspect to hear an adds date and one other piece of news inside two weeks...not two days.

^^ That seems like a very well-calculated strategy. Though, I am hopeful that 'Dark Side' is released in the next 2-3 weeks prior to any US promo, which although uncertain still at this time, RCA must be banking on, no ? Admittedly, the drop in her iTunes position does make me a bit nervous...
The Voice Finale (May 8): Did any of last year's mentors perform on the Finale last year ?
Billboard Music Awards (May 20): IMO, good chance since after Adele, she and Rihanna are the female artists who are commercially having the biggest year. In addition, I just read that the awards show will be televised on ABC (4 days before 'Duets' premieres on the same network). Having Kelly at least appear, if not perform, would be smart for building additional buzz/hype to 'Duets', IMO.
American Idol Finale (May 23): To me, this seems to be the most likely of the three given Kelly's Idol background and any hype surrounding the "controversy" of her appearing on 'The Voice' and with the debut of 'Duets' the following day (May 24) + Kelly herself has stated she will be performing on Idol this season.
Duets (May 24- ? (Kelly's tour start July 21)): I would be shocked if she didn't get to peform solo at least once in the entire season.

Actually, there is a June release date for the UK, so I'd say that's a pretty good sign that this is the next single. I just really wish we'd have some more confirmation. I need an adds date now! This just came on while I was driving through town doing some errands. (On my iPod, not the radio.) It sounded amazing while I was driving. Nice sunny day, windows rolled down. It just fit so perfectly into that. I never realized how fitting this song was for driving.
