www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news08996m01Next week’s HITS Album sales chart should be a case of Born again. That’s because Columbia Records singer/songwriter/guitar-slinger and shaggy-haired heartthrob John Mayer looks likely to nab the top spot for a second straight appearance, with Born and Raised slated to sell around 50-60% less than the 220k he grabbed to make him #1. The results are based on one-day sales figures from those retailers who haven’t turned their stores into Mitt Romney campaign headquarters. As far as debuts go, Sire Russian alternative songstress Regina Spektor’s sixth studio album, What We Saw from the Cheap Seats, is slated for the highest finish, with a projected total of between 30-35k. Her previous album, Far, bowed with 50k in June ’09. Vagrant SoCal neo-hippies Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, which goes through INgrooves Fontana, return with Here, the follow-up to their left-field 2009 success, Up from Below. XL Icelandic avant-rockers Sigur Ros’ Valtari, their sixth album, is headed for between 20-23k. RCA Atlanta rap trio Travis Porter is eyeing 12-15k for their debut album, From Day 1. June begins a roll-out of major releases, including Usher (6/12), Justin Bieber and Kenny Chesney (6/19), as well as Linkin Park and Maroon 5 (6/26), with Chris Brown (7/3) and Zac Brown Band (7/10) both slated for July. This past week, the industry went up against last year’s debut of Lady Gaga's Born This Way, which opened with 1.1m for the period ending May 29, which accounts for the downward trend. Album sales were up 3% vs. last week, down 22% vs. same week last year and down 3% year to date. Track sales were up 2% vs. last week, up 2% vs. same week last year and up 6% year to date. TEA sales were up 3% vs. last week, down 15% vs. same week last year and flat year to date.

My prediction of 35k for What We Saw from the Cheap Seats looks to have been pretty good!

^ It sure will be. Brandi Carlile and Emeli Sandé might debut around 20k, leaving the top 10 looking pretty static. Then things'll start to take off.

Because she is not mentioned in the HITS Wednesday Update - of course This means '21' won't be #1 next week

That's discussed above- nothing major next week. The next big one looks to be Usher on June 12.

Flop for Travis Porter. It's a terrible album though, so no surprise there. Besides, they are better left to the mixtape scene. They're huge here in ATL though.

Does anything big come out next week? Adele could reclaim based on her june 5 TV special. Alan Jackson is supposed to be out next week. The New Release Schedule says 72k which would be enough for #1. I have received a NRS in a few weeks. My source is having a hard time getting it sent to him.

^I highly doubt Alan Jackson will open with 72k. He had the 1st single out last summer, it struggled and only peaked at #24 on BB's Hot Country Songs. The 2nd single has been out for 20 weeks already and is only at #29. It is getting great callout scores, but Alan is an 'older' country star and his albums and singles don't sell like those of Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Jason Aldean, etc. Radio is slowly fading him out.
His last studio album, 2010's Freight Train, opened with 72k, and was his 1st studio album to not go Gold and only the 2nd album of his that didn't go at least Platinum. FT at least had a pair of top 20 hits on country radio, but he is really struggling to get back there again.
I would be very happy if he can pull in 70k, but I think 50-60k is much more reasonable and likely.

Next Week's Billboard 200: John Mayer's 'Born and Raised' Set For Second Week at No. 1 May 30, 2012 | By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
With no blockbuster albums released this week, it looks like John Mayer's "Born and Raised" will hold for a second frame at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
The singer/songwriter's latest effort debuted atop the tally this week with 219,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It marked his third No. 1 on the list.
If it goes for week number two on the Billboard 200, it will be Mayer's first to lead the list for more than a solitary frame. His previous two No. 1 sets -- "Heavier Things" (2003) and "Battle Studies" (2009) -- both rang up one week each.
Next week's highest new entry will likely come from either Regina Spektor's "What We Saw From the Cheap Seats" or Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros' "Here." Both are on track to debut with around 30,000 to 35,000, sources say.
Other albums due to make notable debuts next week include Melody Gardot's "The Absence," Sigur Ros' "Valtari," Scissor Sisters' "Magic Hour" and Juanes' "MTV Unplugged."

Next week is the calm before the storm Here's an interesting tidbit. This is the 2nd time Linkin Park & Maroon 5 have released the same week, and the 3rd time they released the same month. Hands All Over was released the week after A Thousand Suns.

Rascal Flatts has had several albums in between, but I'm Not Dead, Funhouse and Greatest Hits..So Far were all released on weeks when Rascal Flatts released albums. Considering Rascal Flatts released an album in April and Pink is scheduled for this fall, it doesn't look like a 4th time will be happening just yet. ;)

I know Oceania by the Smashing Pumpkins is slated for release the week of the Bieber/Kenny Chesney. I don't think any radio songs are intended for that Pumpkins release, but that makes it interesting to see how it could do that week.
Word of mouth on the live shows last fall seemed positive, though.

The post-Memorial Day slump sets in on next week's chart, with no title even coming close to six figures. Look for Adele's NBC Sunday night special to boost sales at digital retailers, so don’t count her out, even while we're giving John Mayer a slight lead for #1 in week two. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
John Mayer (Columbia) 70-75k Adele (XL/Columbia) 55-60k One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 40-45k *Regina Spektor (Sire) 35-40k Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 30-35k *Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros (Vagrant) 28-32k Now 42 (Capitol/EMI) 24-27k Lionel Richie (Mercury Nashville) 22-25k *Sigur Ros (XL) 20-23k Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 20-23k Norah Jones (Blue Note/EMI) 20-23k Gotye (Fairfax/Universal Republic) 18-21k Slash (Dik Hayd/EMI Label Services) 15-18k Nicki Minaj (YM/CM/Universal Republic) 15-18k fun. (Fueled By Ramen) 15-18k

It's weird that for the 2nd week in a row they haven't put Phillip Phillips in their predictions yet he's been Top 3 on iTunes all week. He ended up at #11 on the Billboard 200 this week. Hopefully he can go Top 10 next week.
