That would be next tuesday. It'll be interesting to see how many hits it gets in the first week.

Her vocals on the chorus aren't distorted, just multi-tracked. I like huge walls of backing vocals.
By the by, that thing the violins are doing is called pizzicato. The strings are being plucked instead of bowed.

The strings are being plucked instead of bowed. I wonder if those pizzicato hits are actual violins or just some very expensive sampler or keyboard. Hmmm. I would hope that spending some money for actual violins wouldn't be that much of a problem for Arista. Still, if the sound is digital, it's sounds pretty good. But, I'm hoping for the real thing.

I feel like the video was filmed last year. I can't believe it still hasn't been released. Great job on the labels part to build anticipation. I think the video will certainly result in more interest for the song.

Allmusic lists two fiddlers but no one playing a violin, but that could be an oversight (the only difference is the playing style — "fiddle" is usually used for a more country style, and "violin" in a more orchestral context). Jonathan Yudkin plays both ways, so he could indeed be doing the pizzicato. That's definitely him on the cellos in the second verse, though.

Has there EVER been a video this overhyped? Hope it doesn't backfire on her by not living up to expectations. I like the song, but all this hoopla is a little weird.

Entertainment has had the exclusive video premiere for a lot of artists including Lady Gaga and more recently Taylor Swift with Ours. Obviously, they're also trying to reach a different demographic with this song.

To each his own, but it seems overhyped to me. Teases, trailers, delays, premiere parties, red carpet events . . . you'd think it was the second coming of Christ instead of a music video. :) Maybe a lot of videos get similar treatment, but if so, I haven't noticed.

This is pretty extreme--more like what we see from Rihanna or Katy Perry. But this level of hype isn't new.

Your exaggeration is extreme. -teases: Carrie said soon a few times, but did she or her team actually tease with something?? -trailers: One trailer and one video of the making of the video. There were no multiple trailers. -delays: What delays? That's probably due to certain people's interpretation of "soon". Carrie and her team did not break any promised date. -premiere parties: there is only ONE premiere party. -red carpet events: there is only ONE red carpet event. No, not many videos get this treatment. This treatment would not work for almost every other country artist because there would not be a business case for it.

It's called hyperbole, hon. :)
As I said, to each his own. If you feel all this fanfare is appropriate for a four-minute video (that's an estimation, because no, I don't know the actual running time of the song to the exact second, and no, I'm not going to look it up), you're entitled to that opinion. To me it just seems a bit over-the-top.

I love(ed) Carrie but this song is just.......not good. Each single pushes me further away. To me this is not only not country, it's not even a good pop song. Sure, the message is powerful and all but this song is an instant channel changer for me. I have seen where some people think she will never go all out pop but she is well on her way. IF that is the direction she chooses to go, so be it. I like a good bit of pop music and would still like her if the songs were right. This song would not be one that is right.

You say it's an instant channel-changer for you, but why? Is it the lyrics? Vocals? Production? I'm genuinely curious, because for me this is one of the best songs Carrie has ever recorded. I could see where the production of it may not suit some people's preferences, but that's a personal thing. Carrie's last two singles (GG and BA) are the two least country-sounding songs on the album, yes. But she also has country gems like "Good in Goodbye" and "Wine After Whiskey," and a redneck stomper like "Cupid's Got a Shotgun," and other decidedly country tracks like "Leave Love Alone," "Do You Think About Me," "Forever Changed," "Thank God for Hometowns," etc. I don't think anyone should worry about Carrie going all-out pop or leaving country. That said, people need to stop expecting Carrie to record only traditional country (not saying that you are, but some people seem to). She never has been and has never pretended to be a traditional artist. She takes her pop influences and her rock influences and infuses them into her own brand of country, and that's what has resulted in GG and BA, two of her very best songs IMO. They may not be everyone's style, and that's okay, but I don't think Carrie has ever misrepresented herself as an artist.

A couple of things....
1. I can't listen to Good Girl because of the production. It sounds like a bad karaoke track to me. Her vocals are spot on though. It just seems like an album cut from Come On Over to me.
2. Blown Away is just way to busy for me for some reason. It is over the top in all phases (lyrics, production, vocals).
3. I listened to the new album all the way through only one time. I do admit that it takes more than one listen to guage how an album is but for as long as I can remember, 75% of the time, my first impression of an album is usually how the album will stick in my mind. There are times that is not the case and I will give the album another listen. I barely made it yhrough the the first time and even skipped through some songs.
Bottom line for me is I am not now, nor ever wil I be the person who whines about songs not being country enough or poppy enough. As long as it is good, I will listen. I am of the opinion that Blown Away is a bad song on a mediocre album. Millions of people disagree. I loved Red Solo Cup, millions disagreed. It's just cool to have a place like this to discuss all of our musical tastes.

It's just cool to have a place like this to discuss all of our musical tastes. It really is. This board is probably the first place I found where people can have a good discussion about country music without everybody beating up on each other over what's "real country" and what isn't. It's sad that there's so much of that going on all over the place. But I love that it's not like that here! It's what drew me in and made me want to become a part of this board. And in that spirit, if I was a little too harsh above -- as I think I may have been -- I apologize. I still do think the hype is excessive . . . but for those of you who don't, no big deal. I hope you enjoy the festivities and that the video meets all your expectations. :)

Blown Away is brilliant. The song is really different from what she has done before and it is definitely better than all the songs about trucks and beers on country radio right now.
As for Carrie's music being country or not, her music is country at its core.

Rational discussions have always been welcomed on this board, and our moderator is outstanding and runs a very tight ship, which is fine for the overwhelming majority of us.
The music itself encourages serious yet respectful discussion, as does the Hot AC board for the millions of us who listen to both formats extensively, since those are two formats where songwriters rule.

To me it just seems a bit over-the-top. I don't really think it's overhyped considering the subject matter of the song. It's been many years since this type of subject matter has been played on the radio or had a video made referencing it. I think the anticipation stems from the fact that most everything else you hear on radio right now has the same themes and the videos aren't going to be anything "new" to see. I think Miranda's video is getting pretty big hype as well with Danika Patrick being in it. As far as the premiere party, I think that was a very nice gesture for Carrie to do for her fans and that radio station. I for one, am glad to see an Artist get excited about a video and promote it. It feels like it's special to her and not just another 4 minute video done simply to appease the masses.

I just heard this for the first time. The production reminds me of Celine Dion's 'I Drove All Night'.

^ If Celine's version of I Drove All Night has this kind of "epic" production, then that gives me one more reason to prefer Pinmonkey's version. The "epic" production sounds amazing on this song, but IMO it does not fit a song like I Drove All Night.

The beat is flawless.

That video was such a disappointment. It didn't even show the house being blown away. And in my opinion, Carrie is too old to play the character in the song. And her trying to wake the dad on the couch defeated the purpose of the lyrics. Horrible. I expected so much more after all the hype. And I love the song.

I thought the video would be more of a violent drama like "Independence day" was. I love the song but the video was just ok.
