I'm trying hard to like this, but it just isn't working. Also, label it how you want, Carly is definitely secondary to Owl City on this, and it should read featuring Carly Rae Jepsen. I don't doubt this will do well, just not sure it's the best second choice in launching Carly's career. I'm sure you'll come around when all of North America is raging to this in a month ;) And I think this should be titled CARLY RAE JEPSEN - Good Time (feat. Owl City)

Listened to this several times. Part of me LOVES it, part of me HATES it. There is something about this that my system doesnt understand. That's kind of how I feel about it as well. It's catchy, fun, and has elements to it that I usually like in a song, but something about it really annoys me. Maybe it's the guy's voice - I absolutely hated that Fireflies song. However, I'm like thisclose to stanning for CRJ, I love her entire EP. So if this gets her a big hit and keeps her in the spotlight until her album is ready for release in the fall, I'm all for it. I'm glad it's doing so well right off the bat.

65% on the pop bars! Killing the Justin album tracks!! For the record, those debuted at 72 and 95. Neither hit the top 10 on iTunes (although Beauty and a Beat got pretty close, so maybe it did?). This should debut top 50 for sure (if it were to drop quickly soon), but Top 20 is looking pretty likely. Especially if these airplay gains keep up.

this is a good track. She might be poised to be the new Katy (while Katy takes a break), but as soon as Ke$ha comes along, it's all over. But i have no quams about her doing well.
but seriously, she needs a new name. Maybe just Carly?

Whenever I've referred to her in personal conversation I use "Carly Rae".

Someone needs to stalk her and find out. :'(

i just don't think Carly Rae Jepsen is an iconic name like Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, etc. It needs some oomph. What other 3 word names are there in music? Billy Ray Cyrus, lol. But that is catchy. Carly is catchy, but Jepsen imo is not.

I think Carly Rae Jepsen is a fine name. If I was to change anything I'd re-spell "Rae" as "Ray" because the "ae" has always bugged me for some reason.

What is the pop bar again, & what is the percentile in determining how a song performs on the charts?

It's not like Carly has to change her name to be successful -- she already has the 2 biggest smashes of the summer with her own awkward name. The artist makes the name iconic, not the other way around.

well i think she should drop the Jepsen. I can already picture young girls screaming at her concerts saying "Carly Rae!! Carly Rae!! Carly Rae!!" They aren't going to be screaming "Carly Rae Jepsen!!" lol
why not just drop that if people are referring you by that name anyways (while you're still very new to the scene).
I believe Madonna started out as Madonna Ciccone before dropping the last name early on.

Just like they do with: Miley, Katy, Britney, Gaga (although backwards), etc. Two syllable names are easy to chant.

There's a real fascination with Carly Rae Jepsen and the direction of her career on this forum. I can't wait to see where she'll be in five years.

Owl City, Carly Rae Jepsen Ready for 'Good Time' on Hot 100by Keith Caulfield, L.A. & Gary Trust, N.Y. | June 28, 2012 6:06 EDTThings are looking "good" for Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen's "Good Time." The new single, which was released to digital retailers on June 26, is poised to debut in the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart next week. Based on sales forecasts from industry sources, Billboard projects that the song may sell between 95,000 to 125,000 downloads by the end of the week on Sunday, July 1. The Billboard Hot 100 ranks the most popular songs of the week in the U.S., based on sales, airplay and streaming data. The new Hot 100's top 10 will be released on Wednesday, July 4. The early radio profile for "Good Time" likewise looks promising. KKHH Houston leads all Pop Songs chart panelists with 39 plays in the past seven days (June 21-27), according to Nielsen BDS. Other early top 40 radio believers include WDJQ Canton, Ohio (37 plays in that span), KDWB Minneapolis (31) and WKSE Buffalo, N.Y. (23). Through the first three days of the current Pop Songs building chart -- highlights of the final full-week version of the survey will be revealed Monday (July 2) on Billboard.com -- "Good Time" ranks at No. 36 with 446 plays (up 343), setting up a likely debut on the radio-based ranking when it's finalized. "Good Time" follows Jepsen's smash single "Call Me Maybe," which rules the Hot 100 for a second week. It is also the year's third-biggest selling song, having sold 3.8 million downloads in 2012, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" is tops (5.3 million) while fun.'s "We Are Young" is in second place (5 million). "Good Time" is the third single that Owl City has released in less than two months, following "Shooting Star" and "Dementia." The latter two tracks were sent to top 40 and alternative radio formats, respectively, in mid-May. They were lifted from his "Shooting Star" digital EP. However, Owl City's record label, Universal Republic, recently switched gears from promoting those two tracks to focus on "Good Time." Further, Universal Republic has teamed with Interscope Records, Jepsen's label, to work the track to radio. "Good Time," along with "Shooting Star" and "Dementia" will all be included on Owl City's upcoming album "The Midsummer Station," due out on Aug. 21. Interscope's involvement with "Good Time" could lead one to think that the song will also appear on Jepsen's upcoming set, due in September. A track list for the still-in-the-works album has not been announced. "Good Time" will mark the return of Owl City to the Hot 100 for the first time since "Vanilla Twilight" spent five weeks on the list in late 2009 and early 2010. Owl City previously notched a No. 1 hit with "Fireflies," which reigned for two weeks in November 2009. www.billboard.com/#/news/owl-city-carly-rae-jepsen-ready-for-good-1007457962.story?utm_source=most_recent

I think Billboard is being really conservative with their estimate. "Good Time" should debut Top 5 on Digital Songs which should be enough for at least Top 20 on the Hot 100.
