Congrats Shaki! Better to stop it with this mediocre album. Let's pray that she'll make an album worth a huge era soon!

You can blame her pregnancy, but the album was going nowhere fast since march. 3 flop singles in 6 months doesn't lend itself to longevity for a project.

It seems like all her recent hits were covers

You can blame her pregnancy, but the album was going nowhere fast since march. 3 flop singles in 6 months doesn't lend itself to longevity for a project. She was still making plenty of money off her sponsors and off her huge streaming numbers. Shakira is on track to get 2B VEVO views in 2014, that's a lot of income from VEVO streaming. No one cares about the money that comes in from album sales nowadays. The era made money, that's what matters most to Live Nation. These big divas care more about exposure than anything else, because the ultimate prize is touring. All of her singles had strong streaming numbers, even Dare. Dare became the most shared commercial of all time. The world cup hype helped her become the most followed person on Facebook. The album had decent sales for an older diva. If you want to mention big diva flops, that would be JLo, Mariah, Celine, etc. Shakira did find some success this era. Shakira is a Latin legend. Even if her singles flop & under-perform, they can still use her name to sell just about anything to her audience and her name will generate strong streaming numbers. So, even in an under-performing era, she'll still have that, which is enough to bring in plenty of money. The album didn't sell well, but she sold her music to Activia, Tmobile, Crest, ABC and Starbucks. What we all want though is a big era for Shakira where she gets solid English hits, hopefully that will happen in the future. The pregnancy did put the era on hold. If you look at Shakira's history, typically after her English album comes her Spanish album then a huge tour. That was the plan. But, it all ended because of the pregnancy. After SW the album under-performed, she went on to find success with "Sale El Sol." Also, it seems that some people are pushing for her to release CMD. Magic recently tweeted: MAGIC! @ournameismagic .@gma @vicikvicikm Sadly no, but maybe if you ask the lovely @shakira nicely... #MagicOnGMA Lastly, I hope she enjoys her time with her family. This entire era her body was present, but her heart was back in Spain with her family. I hope in a couple years she comes back with a strong desire to release new music. Right now all she cares about is her family. Its understandable, she's in her mid 30's. If not now, when? Right now is the time for her to have kids. No one is going to pick fame over family.

No one is going to pick fame over family. 1B streams on Youtube pays $5m so 2B will pay out 10m, thats probably more than they put into the era, so im sure they are considering this a big success, and thats just Vevo numbers, not including Spotify or even record sales. I don't consider this era a flop at all, this is how the music business is going, making money from streaming and even with songs that didn't light up the charts she still pulled in the big numbers for streaming which does bode well for her future.

Yeah, a lot of people are still in the transition faze. Album sales are so low nowadays that they are not as importation. The future is streaming income. The streaming queens are going to be the ones making the most money in the near future. Right now the current top streaming queen is Rihanna. On VEVO/YouTube, the top 3 divas are Rihanna, Katy Perry & Shakira, respectively.

Sigh. Her last album was underwhelming but I'm confident she can come back strong with another album in Spanish.

I highly doubt she'll have an album out in 2015. Earliest date I could imagine would be Q1 2016, based on the amount of time she disappeared after the first brat.

I agree, I'm being optimistic and going by what her team is saying, but realistically, she likely won't have an album out in 2015 People close to her say the Spanish album is finished, that it was ready to be released after "Shakira", but it was delayed due to her pregnancy. If that's true, then its really down to whenever she's ready to release it and promote it, which is still going to be a very long time. One thing is for sure, the Shakira vault of unreleased songs is huge.

Still salty that the She Wolf album flopped. So many hot jams. Should have came out Summer '09 because it's such a summer soundtrack.

Well, at least as fans we got plenty out of the album. She still did a promo tour, performed SW and other songs lots of times. She still went on tour and we got to hear some of SW live. Other artists when they flop, they just drop the entire era. Also, most people don't see that era as a flop since SES went on to become a big hit (outside the US), thanks to Waka Waka. As for SW, I blame her management. They did not give SW time to grow on radio, they panicked and rush-released "Give It Up To Me." Right now though, there's so much uncertainty because her full focus is on having kids. I highly doubt she'll go on a promo tour or a real tour till her kids are older In the next couple years we'll get music and Shakira products, but that's about it.

Shakira was such a disappointment for me. I've been a fan of hers since the very beginning but I just couldn't connect. I'm hoping she comes back strong next time around, I feel like she lacks direction and purpose which is something she had before.

As for SW, I blame her management. They did not give SW time to grow on radio, they panicked and rush-released "Give It Up To Me." What? Shewolf was released to radio in early July. Give It Up To Me wasn't released until late October. She Wolf had peaked at radio month before that. It's last appearance on AT40 was on 10/10 at #28 and then dropped off the next week. They pushed Give It Up To Me at the same time the rest of the world was getting Did It Again as a second single.

The pushing back of the album and the messiness of the second single release is what caused the album to flop.

I remember hearing it for the first time driving home from work, in what I thought was mid-late August (right before I went back to college)/

No, She Wolf was early summer. I remember the music video coming out mid July.

The pushing back of the album and the messiness of the second single release is what caused the album to flop. Not really. The album wasn't delayed in the rest of the world, only in the US, and it didn't do that well anywhere. People were just not here for Shakira without an ethnic sounding track. The same with her most recent album.

They pushed Give It Up To Me at the same time the rest of the world was getting Did It Again as a second single. They gave up on SW early. They wanted it to explode early on, when it didn't, a brilliant person over at Sony decided that "Give It Up To Me" would be the new HDL. At that point they changed everything and rushed out GIUTM. Rushed, but it still took awhile to roll out since they did give the song its own choreography and they recorded a video, all last minute. They had long-term plans for the singles. They were SW, DIA, WW and one last single, likely Gypsy. DIA had a well-thought-out video and choreography. Later on Pink used similar choreography for one of her videos. The early plans were for Shakira to redo that scene live during her tour. A bed was supposed to rise up from under the stage, then she'd do the choreography from the video with Cloud. But, when the single got cut, they decided to cut the song from the tour also. The original plans for the tour changed a lot to go with the better selling album, "Sale El Sol." What we got were lots of SES songs, older Spanish songs, and less SW songs. Shakira announced the tour early on as "The Tour of Earthly Delights," but they changed it to the "Sale El Sol" tour. All those changes happened because they decided to go with GIUTM. DIA & GIUTM didn't make it on the tour, which is very odd since Shakira had to learn complex choreography for both songs. Also, the Spanish album following SW was supposed to be electronic also, but that changed due to SW under-performing. The label made her record "Loca," "Rabiosa" and "Waka, Waka." They wanted Latin sounding songs. She experienced success with those songs, but it wasn't what she envisioned for her "electronic era."

Did it Again's video is so good, her best ever for sure. I think the song needed different production to give it a punch, mainly in the chorus.
