2017's Year-end Chart #1-25 |
These 25 songs were all important for me in some way or another. They will stay with me to remind me of the clusterfuck of a year that 2017 was. It was the absolute worst, but I'm at a better place now... but hey, the music was awesome!
This is positively my most basic year-end chart, but I guess I'm just that kind. Need to branch out out more in the future. | As you can see, the top three was super close. I'm pretty sure Dua would've ended up #1 with one more week - and if the other two didn't re-enter in the late December.
Another interesting fact is that my top three is sang by women, which is the opposite of last year's all-male top 3.
Several artists made multiple entries in the top 25, such as Sean Paul, Anne-Marie, Lorde, Dua Lipa, The Chainsmokers and Lady Gaga wasn't doing that bad either. | Only 16 of the 25 songs are have female vocalists on them, which obviously makes me super masculine™. My reputation has never been better. Enjoy. |

2018’s Year-end Chart #51-100 |
So I decided to combined the weekly points chart and an inverse chart to get a more accurate year-end. The reason is that I tried to tweak the formula over the summer, because the play counts dwindled for each and every song. Spending progressively less time listening to music is the new reality. Might also cut the chart down to 50 or abandon recurrency or something. I'm struggling to find 5 to 10 new songs per week that don't cause internal bleeding and brain hemorrhage. | On the left: --> The first column shows PEAKS --> The second one shows WEEKS ON --> The third row has the number derived from (points charts x inverse chart) / 2
Songs that either peaked or had a significant amount of their run in the 2017 chart year are marked blue. Songs still charting in the last week of 2018 are marked red. | "Ready For It", "Unforgettable", "Thunder, Feel It Still", "New Rules", "Whatever It Takes" are repeats from last year.

2018's Year-end Chart #26-50 |
Time for the next installment of this trainwreck...
This part mainly consist of two types of songs. The first ones are those that spent most of their weeks in the teens or 20's - with maybe a peak in the lower half of the top ten -, and managed not to burn on me for literal seasons. A good example is "No Roots". The other types are easy year-defining massive hits, that had their runs split - or in worse case cut in half. They could have snatched a top ten spot in any year. An example for this is "Good Old Days", which could be #5 in 2018 and #4 in 2017 with its full run counted. | On the right:
--> The first column shows PEAKS
--> The second one shows WEEKS ON
--> The third row has the number derived from (points charts x inverse chart) / 2
Songs that either peaked or had a significant amount of their run in the 2017 chart year are marked blue.
Songs still charting in the last week of 2018 are marked red. | "Havana", "Good Old Days", "Perfect" and "rockstar" appeared on the 2017 year-end chart as well. "Homemade Dynamite" was #101 in 2017, but managed to repeak and get into the top 50 the following year when I realized we aren't getting any more Melodrama singles. "Too Good At Goodbyes" also barely missed the 2017 year-end with a #109 placement, but made it comfortably this time around. |

2019's Year-end Chart #51-100 |
With a strong start and a strong finish, this year's pop music proved to be the best in quality since 2012. It might even be my favorite, haven't decided yet.
In 2019, I managed to discover several exciting new performers. Billie Eilish, Ava Max, Kim Petras, Lil Nas X, H.E.R. and of course Lizzo.
A few veteran artists - whom I've written off -, managed to put out material that clicked with me. Such was the case with Katy Perry, OneRepublic, Ciara and Madonna.
The reliable favorites stayed consistent, I continue to love most of what Ariana, Shawn Mendes, Tove Lo, Taylor, Halsey and Gaga released. | On the right:
--> The first column shows PEAKS
--> The second one shows WEEKS ON
Songs that either peaked or had a significant amount of their run in the 2018 chart year are marked blue.
Songs still charting in the last week of 2019 are marked red.
A "*" symbol in the PEAKS row means that the song can repeak in 2020. | The notable entries on this 51-100 are: With "Boy With Luv" at #55, i'm 90% sure this year marks the first year a kpop song made into my year-end top 100. Blackpink managed to get the other entry with "Kill This Love" at #92. Dua Lipa's and Blackpink's "Kiss And Make Up" barely missed the top 100.
I liked Miley's new songs well enough. "Mother's Daughter" and her Black Mirror cover of "On A Roll" show up in this section. "Slide Away" ended up at #112, will probably miss next year as well.
I have an instrumental entry this year, with Ramin Djawadi's "The Night King" and apparently i love 5 Seconds of Summer now. Fuck... |

2019's Year-end Chart #26-50 |
Finally remembered how I used to format these. The last row represents percents compared to the #1 song.
"Shallow" almost managed to get into the upper quarter for a second year. "ME!" managed to get a high placement despite its quick collapse on my weeklies. "Gone" is a song I liked instantly, but managed grow on me so much, that I'd put it among my favorites now. It's still in my top ten in late January and will for sure get to at least 40 weeks. I loved "Juice", but got bored of it when I started hearing it over ten times a week. "Don't Start Now" was pretty instant, and it will obviously show up on next year's list too.
| I preferred "Look At Her Now" over LYTLM, which didn't even reach this year's top 100. Megan has a great showing with her first entry, "Hot Girl Summer", which peaked in late October. Charli has another song on here, this one with Troye Sivan. "1999" peaked at #2. Billie Eilish has two songs on here, "bury a friend" at #41 and "when the party's over" at #46. The former was strong at the beginning of the year, while the latter will carry over into 2020. "Expectations" at #43 is the highest ranking song to miss the top ten with its #13 peak followed by "i'm so tired..." at #49.

2019's Year-end Chart #1-25 |
Oops... so here's the uppermost quarter of my 2019 Year-end chart.
"Sweet But Psycho" takes the top spot becoming the first debut to place #1 since 2012's "Somebody That I Used To Know". It managed to fend off "bad guy" with the help of a last minute re-entry in December, when some of my favorite songs usually reappear on the chart. There was a difference of 0,88% between the two songs. Ava finished first on the inverse, placement-based chart, but Billie got slightly more total chart points (which is derivative of listens).
"7 Ring" places third, followed by "Señorita" and "Glad He's Gone", which were all still contenders for the top spot by late fall. Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus scored the best performing non-#1 with "Nothing Breaks Like A Heart".
Ariana got two more smash hits with "break with your girlfriend i'm bored" and "thank u, next" at #7 and #12 respectively. | New artist Kim Petras' "Blow It All" finished at #8, Spiderverse soundtrack song "Sunflower" ended the year at #9 and Taylor Swift's "Lover" closed the top ten. Interestingly Taylor was #11 on both the playcount-based and the inverse year-end system, but sneaked in by a hair on the combined one.
I liked "Old Town Road" enough to get three weeks at #1, fourteen in the top ten and finish #11 on the year-end. "How Do You Sleep" placed #13, but since it was an unusually strong #2-peaker, it is firmly in the top ten point-wise. Gaga's ASIB soundtrack scored two more smash hits with "Always Remember Us This Way" at #14 and "I'll Never Love Again" at #21.
Halsey's "Without Me" was #15 and the Jonas Brothers' comeback single "Sucker" finished #16. Sam Smith scored another year-end top 20 with the duet | "Dancing With A Stranger" at #17. Zara Larsson's "Don't Worry Bout Me" was #18.
Katy's return, "Never Really Over" finished #19, while BANKS' own comeback, "Gimme" was #20.
Sam's duet partner on DWAS, Normani also secured two spots in the top 25 with "Motivation" at #22. Lizzo's "Truth Hurts" was #23.
H.E.R.'s sleeper hit - turned number-one, "Hard Place" finished #24.
OneRepublic's "Rescue Me" was consistent enough to snatch the #25 position. |

2020's Year-end Chart #76-100 |
Heyyo. Although I probably won't be back to posting the weekly charts any time in the future, this is the time of the year I appear and post my year-end charts.
The lower region of the chart was pretty strong this year, I still love everything on this list. 2020's most important new discoveries were: Maggie Rogers, Lennon Stella, Chloe x Halle, Benee, Rina Sawayama and Finneas.
| On the right:
--> The first column shows PEAKS
--> The second one shows WEEKS ON
--> The third one shows the song's points compared to the #1 in %
Songs that either peaked or had a significant amount of their run in the 2019 chart year are marked blue.
Songs still charting in the last week of 2020 are marked red.
| Most of these songs peaked in the #20s or #30s and didn't or just barely managed to escape the 20-week recurrency. One of the two exceptions is Finneas' "What They'll Say About Us", which only managed to log in 14 weeks before the cutoff and will probably have about the same number of weeks next year. The other one is Tove Lo's and ALMA's duet "Bad As The Boys", which was a 2019 carryover with 14 of its weeks counting towards this year. |

2020's Year-end Chart #51-75 |
Now this is a batch with a little more variety. These are still mostly moderately well performing songs, except for the 2019/20 hits - "Raising Hell", "Gone", "Harleys In Hawaii" - and the ones that are currently smashing "positions" [current #1], "Baby, I'm Jealous" [#4], "Care" [#7]. The biggest of these is probably "Gone", which would have been #3 this year and #2 last year if combined.
Charli sadly failed to get a song into the Upper 50 despite releasing a great album. | On the right:

| A year-end mashup got to be in my top 100 this year after none making it last year. 2018 had two.
"Happy" by Pulse member Dylan was my 72nd most listened to song this year. The DJ Kim mashup almost made it, but finished at #114.
"Future Nostalgia", the title track of Dua's latest album finished at #75, the lowest of her five song appearing on the top 100 list. |

I like a good bunch from this set, pleased to see "Répondez-moi" It's my boyfriend's favorite song this year, so I literally had no other choice, but to stan. Thankfully it's a good song, otherwise I would've gone mad.

2020's Year-end Chart #26-50 |
This section is made up of important, but not overly dominant songs (such as "Love You For A Long Time", "Watermelon Sugar", "Roses" or "Past Life"), but also massive ones like "Don't Start Now" and "Look At Her Now". The former was #33, while the latter #36 in 2019 with each only charting for ten weeks that year.
| "Cardigan" did well enough on my weekly charts, but it was certainly an underperformer calculating in how much I usually love Taylor's output.
"Fear Of Being Alone" was the opposite. It finished astonishingly high factoring in that I haven't heard of Lennon Stella before like... late March.
"Sweettalk My Heart" ranked highest among the Sunshine Kitty songs this year simply by peaking at the right time. The album's songs progressively racked up fewer points, but it was always a slight decline from single to single. The first one, "Glad He's Gone" was #5 on the 2019 year-end, this one is now #31, and the others - would rank between those two if I combined their points. |

2020's Year-end Chart #1-25 |
And here's the quarter. And I actually have 2 male artists in the top 3! That's the most since 2016, when two Troye Sivan songs and a Drake song occupied the top 3.
Gaga almost managed to get four songs into the top ten. This is the year she's been most dominant in my music listening habits since at least 2011, maybe even 2010. "Rain On Me" was absolutely massive, the #2 song only reached 82% of its points. "Stupid Love" did very well thanks to its initial run, and was able to best "Sour Candy", because the latter was blocked by ROM for most of its run near the top. "911" was my favorite album track, would have played it as single nr.4 anyway, but the video definitely helped it.
"Blinding Lights" itself merits a mention for its longevity, that secured the song a comfortable #2 placement despite only spending one week at #1.
JoJi is among my favorite new discoveries of last year, and now he's placed #3 with "Run" and #13 with "Slow Dancing In The Dark".
Doja Cat had an amazing year with "Say So" finishing at #4 and "Rules" at #23.
| Ava Max once again gets a year-end top ten, this time with "Kings & Queen" at #7.
Halsey's "you should be sad" managed to do what "Without Me" failed at last year, make the top ten.
The Frozen 2 Soundtrack's lead single "Into The Unknown" places #9.
Dua Lipa's "Physical" finished #10, being the most successful of this year's Dua Lipa songs. It bests "Break My Heart" [#14] and "Levitating" [#20], although I suspect the latter one will be more successful once its whole chart run is tallied.
"Midnight Sky" by Miley Cyrus comes close with a #11 placement. "Now I'm In It" by HAIM finished at #15, and it's their most successful song off the latest album. It's a 'Say So/Run-sized' hit, but unfortunately had the beginning of its chart run cut off. Troye Sivan had another amazing year, and despite only releasing an EP, scored two big hits with "Take Yourself Home" [#22] and "Easy" [#25].

Here's the building year-end chart after week 26. A few old songs returned over the past few weeks ("Only Time Makes It Human", "Care", "positions" and "Levitating"), so they are going to end up higher on the year-end than they otherwise would be. - "My Head & My Heart" will probably pass "Fever" in a few weeks as the latter is #50 on this week's chart and likely going recurrent next week.
- The top five songs on this list will almost certainly end up in the year-end top ten.
- The following songs will rise significantly in the remainder of their chart runs (at least 10 spots): "deja vu", "Sacrifice", "Lucky", "Kiss Me More", "Montero" and "Hold On".

So anyway, here's the first part of my 2021 year-end chart. The blue highlights mean that the song spent a significant part of its run in 2020, the green highlight on the other hand means the opposite - that the song will continue charting in 2022, for a few weeks or more. Doja Cat was the most successful artist, with 4 songs as a lead artist, and two features. Dua Lipa was second with 4 leads and a feature. Ava Max, Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish were third with 4 songs each. Ariana was sixth with 3 leads and a feature. Lil Nas X, beabadoobee, Lady Gaga, JoJi and Taylor Swift followed with 3 songs. The Weeknd was 12th with two leads and a feature netting him 2,5 point. Rain On Me; Baby; Baby, I'm Jealous and Gimme Love are repeats from last year, and the only real surprise entry was Telepatia, which peaked at #44.

There are two Eurovision songs in this batch, "Last Dance" and "Zitti e buoni". Several artists had two entries here, like Miley, Zella Day, Doja and The Weeknd.

The majority of these 25 songs spent most of their weeks in the top 20 or lower half of the top 10. The few exceptions to this were: "positions", "STAY", "Rumors", "Care", "Therefore I Am" (their points got split between years), also "Solar Power" and "Thoth Shit" (fast collapse after leaving the top 10). The most impressive chart run of these was "Light On" spending a total of 52 weeks on the chart (34 of those in 2021). The combined points would place it at #12 in both 2020 and 2021.

I'll have to check out that Kali Uchis song. I loved "After The Storm" a few years ago!

Ava Max snatched the year-end #1 spot for the second time. Her first one was "Sweet But Psycho" in 2019. She's the second artist to have more than one year-end #1s after Gaga, who has three, "Just Dance" (2009), "Bad Romance" (2010) and "Rain On Me" (2020). "My Head & My Heart" was the winner by a comfortable margin, similarly to Rockabye's 2018 performance. "Rain On Me" was way more dominant in 2020 and Ava led over Billie by less than 1% in 2019. I enjoyed Olivia's music this year, her songs ended up at #2, #6 and #11. Doja's "Kiss Me More" (#3) improves upon "Say So"'s position (#6). The Future Nostalgia era of course carried over from 2020 with "Fever" #4 and "We're Good" #18. Her duet with Miley, "Prisoner" also shows up at #9. BENEE's "Happen To Me" closes out the top five. Two Drag Race songs in the top 25, "Lucky" at #7 and "UK Hun?" at #23. Billie's "Happier Than Ever" absolutely dominated the last third of the year finishing at #8. Lil Nas X shows up twice with "Call Me By Your Name" at #10 and "Industry Baby" at #14. "Mood Ring" at #12 and "Good Ones" at #13 were two big #1s that entered the picture way too late in the year to get a spot in the top ten. Phoebe Bridgers shows up twice, with "I Know The End" at #16 and "Kyoto" at #22. I think this is the first time I let a cover song chart, so the "People Like Us" cover sang in Doom Patrol ended up at #25. It did better than the original (#10 peak and #85 on the year-end).

2022 YTD chart"Clouds" and "Hello Hello" are fighting for the number-one spots as they both continue their descents on the weekly charts at the same rate. "Meet Me At Our Spot" emerges as one of the best performing #2 peaking songs on my chart. Charli XCX is on track to become my artist of the year as her album Crash was my #1 album by a large margin and her songs, such as "Baby", "Beg For You", "Good Ones" and "New Shapes" get a lot of plays. "Baby" is almost guaranteed to become the #1 song on the year-end thanks to the 9 non-consecutive weeks it spent at #1. RuPaul is on track to get another year-end top 10 with "Catwalk". 2021's "Lucky" was his first to do it. Kim Petras' "Coconuts" is another great performer, it's a shame the album still hasn't come out. Lil Nas X's and Doja Cat's singles from their 2021 albums continue to do well. Rounding out the top ten, Sigrid's "Burning Bridges" continues the success of 2021's "Mirror".

This is the year when I stopped following the weekly charts and it shows. I'm - admittedly - still a pretty basic white gay, so i don't think there's anything groundbreaking here. In the weeks on field the green marking means that the song is still charting as of week 53 of 2022. Blue means it had a part of its run in 2021. Some songs that barely missed the top 100: "In The Dark" by Purple Disco Machine, "Anti-Hero", "Hold Me Closer" by Elton John and Britney Spears, "C'mon Loretta" by Trixie Mattel, "Absolute" by Foxes and "Read My Mind" by Rebecca Black. Some artists I wish I listened to more: FKA twigs, Florence, Foxes. The artists with the most songs on the list were: 1. Charli XCX 2. Doja Cat 3. Harry Styles 4. Rina Sawayama 4. Kim Petras 6. Tove Lo 6. Tove Styrke 6. Billie Eilish 9. Willow 9. Dua Lipa

Slightly less interesting stuff on here. At #50, DJ Earworm's 2021 USPOP is the (i think) highest position a mashup has managed to finish on my yearly charts. Most of the artists showing up in the top 50 appear with multiple songs. Ava Max, Willow, Kim Petras, Tove Styrke, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, Tove Lo, Tate McRae, Harry Styles, Shea Couleé, Beyoncé, Charli XCX, Rina Sawayama all had at least two credits. Lizzo, Alaska, Caroline Polachek, and Florence almost made it as well with another song placing between #51-75. Some big outliers were: Lorde's "The Path" at #17, Sigrid's "Burning Bridges" at #15, "Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush at #12, "Catwalk" by Rupaul at #11, Trixie Mattel's "Hello Hello" at #4 and Slayyyter's "Clouds" at #3. There are way more than the usual amount of "sleeper hits". Willow and Tyler Cole's "Meet Me At Our Spot" is the highest ranking song not to hit number-one at #6. The lowest peaking song in the top ten is Caroline Polachek's "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" at #8 (it peaked at #3). Tove Lo's "No One Dies From Love" is the poster-child of longevity this year. It peaked at #17, but spent an inordinate amount of time in the 17-25 region placing #25 on the year-end. Charli XCX absolutely dominated the year with two massive songs in the top five. "Baby" edged out Harry Styles' "As It Was" for the #1 spot by just 1% in points. It was a very close race which "Baby" won by topping the weekly chart for nine weeks by a large margin, while "As It Was" lead in longevity. Slayyyter's "Clouds" and Trixie Mattel's "Hello Hello" both ended up with over 4000 points and remained contenders for the top spot up until their elimination from the weekly charts. "Maybe You're The Problem" and "This Hell" were both autumn #1s with slim hopes of taking over, while "About Damn Time" was the summer #1 with slightly less stellar longevity than the previous two.

2023 YTD It's super weird how my current top song wouldn't even crack the top15 on the last year-end and barely make it to #5 on the 2022 mid-year snapshot. Maybe points are more spread out between the songs and there isn't an absolutely dominant top 3-4. Much to think about. Raye's "Escapism." is leading by a small margin, thanks to an impressive longevity and a 5-week stay at #1. Rebecca Black's "Crumbs" is second with the (as of now) longest stay in the top ten and a #2 peak. Tove Lo's "Borderline" is third and will likely overtake the other two very soon. "Anti-Hero" is #4, peaking relatively late in its chart run. Miley's "Flowers" is #5 with a number-two peak on the weekly charts. At #6 there's another Miley song, "River", which was a recent number-one. SZA's number-four peaking "Kill Bill" is at #7, a testament to its longevity. Carly's "Talking To Yourself" is at #8. Counting its whole chart run it could've been a year-end leader in any of the past four years. Zara Larsson's "Can't Tame Her" is at #9 and Taylor's "Levander Haze" is at #10. Caroline Polachek's "Welcome To My Island" finished at #11 and Carly's other song "The Loneliest Time" is #12 despite never going higher than that exact chart position on the weekly charts.
