Does anybody know how many songs in the PPW era have fallen from above the 30-40 mark off the chart without going recurrent? A few I recall: Destiny's Child - Bootylicious (from 24, 14 weeks on) *N"Sync - Pop (from 24, 11 weeks on) (Both victims of PDs dropping them as soon as they peaked) I know there have been quite a few.

"Pop" was removed because of a recurrent rule that was used briefly in 2001. I believe the very week "Pop" fell off, that recurrent rule began. The criteria was that if a song was down in plays for 3 consecutive weeks and ranked below number 25, it was moved to recurrent.

Looking back, "Bootylicious" also suffered from that same recurrent rule, even though it was on the chart for only 14 weeks. "Pop" was only on the chart a mere 11 weeks when it went recurrent.

Yeah if you go by Billboard's Pop chart, "Pop" had a quick, but natural, decline.

How the heck did that drop from 26 to off the chart? Pre-album/countdown "singles" have dropped right off from high positions, but an active single like that plunging off like that? Weird.

When AT40 used the weird chart rule a lot of songs fell off after a two-week decline, but "Yellow" by Coldplay had a really weird one, falling off the week after it peaked at 22. (It fell from 23-34 to off on the R&R chart and peaked at 20) Edit: It actually peaked three weeks before and regained its peak.

This is talking about the Mediabase CHR airplay top 40, not the Hot 100. I remember it lost like a crapload of spins that week. Nearly 2,000 spins or something like that. It ended up the week at #41, and was purged. Its fall off the Hot 100 was a bit more "gracefull" 8-18-22-24-22-18-31-46-65-88-off

Remember when "Doesn't Really Matter" by Janet Jackson fell off Casey Kasem's AT40 chart from #10 when it was using Mediabase?
