Hit? I admit its a great/high-quality song, but the likelihood of Urban playing this is slim to none and even Pop radio is a stretch. Even so, I do hope the quality of her first single at least matches Almost Home. Urban played 'Diamonds'. Mariah is more of a household name at the format than Rihanna ever will. Hasn't urban changed a lot since Mariah's time? Rihanna's been having lots of hits there so it's not a huge miracle that they played Diamonds.

Mariah had a top 30 song at Urban not even a year ago. So when was this Mariah time you speak of?

No I don't, I'm just asking because I've seen people mention how Mariah's older hits that people assume to be pop were actually urban songs that crossed over to pop, or something to that effect. That's why I'm asking. :)
Oh and this is pretty good, I wonder if she'll promote it on Idol.

What people were saying regarding those songs is that they are a Pop/R&B blend, but Urban didn't reall become a core format for her until the Butterfly era.

I'm liking 'Almost Home'. The lyrics are cheesy, but her vocals and the production are top-notch. I'm really curious as to how this will do on iTunes. I know Mariah has never been a big digital seller, but response to the song has been overwhelmingly positive and the movie is predicted to do pretty big numbers.

This is exactly what I would think 'Hero' would sound like in 2013 (cheesy yet inspirational lyrics, modulation, cookie cutter production with flawless vocals in the forefront, no defined genre). Hopefully this sees similar success!

Mariahs Rihanna inspired track sounds AMAZING! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! Hopefully shes got an album waiting in the wings because this is simply undeniable. Mariah sounds divine. I was instantly taken to heaven after hearing the first three seconds of this record. Mariah has come back yet again. Nothing can stop the voice of an imperfect angel.

I wouldn't say Mariah, during Butterfly, had urban as her core format. She was still straddling fences until TEOM, uses remixes to satisfy her urban audience. Rainbow unabashedly tried to serve all markets and Glitter and CB still had those elements, though weaker. Heck, CB badly attempted to regain her AC audience. She's a rhythmic artist that leaned pop for the first half of her career and leaned R&B over the last decade. She benefitted heavily from a less segmented radio environment back in the 90's which is why she used to be able to top multiple formats. The 00's ushered in a radio era that made it hard to crossover and she choose to dig into R&B as her current core.

Comparing the commercially viable Diamonds to Triumphant/Almost Home is laughable. Not saying Almost Home won't/can't become a hit, but to even imply that it sounds commercial (in regard to mainstream radio) just isn't realistic. Yes, the lyrics are great and she sounds better than she has in years, but...it's still in a inspirational ballad. Urban/Pop hasn't made a song with a similar theme like that a hit in years. But of course, anything is possible.

Diamonds is clearly about 'being happy' in a relationship...with a ton a references to the relationship not being approved of due to her current life. Nobody's listening to Diamonds and championing that they can achieve their life goals, lmao.

"Almost Home" is decent, I don't find the chorus catchy.

What a nice change of pace for Mariah. It's really refreshing to hear a full-voiced Mariah throughout the entire song. Get dat Disney smash.

I love me urban Mimi but when you giving voice like that!! she could of sung Country and I still would've loved it. This kind of mature vocal performance is what I wanna see more of from Mariah, even when she does her urban material for the album.
Edit/ Now after a few times playing this and getting over the new Mariah moment, it's a little too poppy for me, I get it's just stand alone disney track so that's all good, but if her album contained too much of this sound I dont think i would like it.

I think we sometimes box Mariah in and expect the same old sound, let her do 1 song that doesn't sound like her and is fresh, It's not like her album is going to suddenly sound like a Demi album, its a stand alone Disney track.

It's not bad. It has "Hero"-like lyrics, but at least it's not set in that sound. I wouldn't have minded some live instruments (unless I'm not hearing it?), but has Stargate ever dabbled in it?

^Not bad? Not exactly a ringing endorsement, lol.
I quite like this. The song is very catchy and current, and I'm glad Mariah finally decided to sing the whole song in her mid-range register, making it easy to hear her in the first three minutes of the song. The belts at the end definitely take the song to another level.

I've been a fan since the early 90s and I've always preferred her "Pop" songs over her R&B tracks (with the exception of "Butterfly") but this track is SO different for her. She's singing her heart out and it's leans Pop! This track is very refreshing and sits comfortably in her catalog. I'm praying her next album is a blend of "E=MC2" and "Charmbracelet".

Charmbracelet??? Really???? That album was a whisper-fest mess, vocally I think its one of her poorest albums... there were a couple of good tracks on there that had she sung in a full voice might have been worthwhile..

After hearing the entire song, its definitely a catchy, current, relevant tune. I love the production - it sounds fresh. I'm kinda upset that there's almost NO whispering. I like when she whispers parts of her verses damnit!
But I like it. It should (and FUCK ageism) be a hit for her.

Positive T- I only listened to it once. I'll probably upgrade my impression. :)
I actually came to kinda like "Triumphant" over time, and I like this more on first listen.

The chorus to this song is instant for me. One of the strongest melodies she's sung in a long time.
