Black Eyed Peas debuted on Hot AC this week. There is nothing Hot AC about this song. Probably charted because it was a big pop hit.

Black Eyed Peas debuted on Hot AC this week. There is nothing Hot AC about this song. Probably charted because it was a big pop hit. With Crazy In Love a few spots above it (and a former top 30 hit on Hot AC), I am not in the least surprised that this song hit the chart. It is right in line with other big pop hits that are not very Hot AC (Lady Marmalade is a prime example...)

Yeah but "Crazy In Love" is not rap. BEP is still rap, despite being very Poppy, Will Smith-like rap... in this song anyway.

I am a bit suprised actually "Where Is The Love?" didn't scrape the Top 20 on Hot AC like "Miss Independent" did.
Indeed there is some rap blended in this hit, but there is also a quite noticable transition between the verses and chorus and it is quite cohesive. Hot AC radio loves their hooks and "Where Is The Love?" has a quite recognizable one.
I figured it may have peaked around #18-#20.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I asked myself the same question when KFMB started playing WITL.

I have a Hot AC station (that is not monitered) that plays this song. They also play Blaque and Toya... I don't really understand why they are Hot AC. Maybe they also focus on 90's music.

Will stations that play "Where Is The Love?" play Bubba Sparxxx: "Deliverance" also? It has a reasonably long chorus that isn't rap and the music isn't urban. Is "Deliverance" that different than the fast (but not considered rap) "Semi-Charmed Life"? I don't know if being white would give Bubba an advantage over Black Eyed Peas on Hot Adult Contemporary.

I doubt it, unless Bubba Sparxxx can hit the top 5 on Pop, and that definitely isn't going to happen.

CHUM FM 104.5 here in Toronto is HOT AC and I have heard "Crazy in Love" on there, as well as Where is the Love? and even last weekend I heard them play "Baby Boy".
They even played Beyonce's "Sexy Lil' Thug", the cover of In Da Club, back in April or May.
Sometimes I hear a song on their channel and have to look twice at the stereo to see if Im on the wrong channel.
They might as well just become a pure Pop station, Toronto doesn't have one of those.

i am not surprised a bit. because it seems that radio stations seem to add what is popular whether or notit's there genre just to get added listeners. i personally think that the line should be visible between the different formats but nowadays that is not the case. i am being hopeful and gonna predict a peak of #35. as low as possible !!!!!

Just because "Crazy In Love" is less rap, does not particularly make "Where Is The Love?" less Hot A/C-friendly. WITL has a slightly more mature sound, so it makes a lot more sense than CIL to be played on the format.

Mediabase currently lists only seven format leaders for "Where Is The Love". It charted last week with 251 spins, and currently, those seven stations have given the songs 213 spins total. The top station, WMWX in Philly, has Christina/Lil Kim at #1, "Senorita" and "Crazy In Love" in the top 10, and "Shake Ya Tailfeather" in the top 30. The others have playlists that are a little more strictly Hot AC, but all seem to have pretty high new music rotation levels for Hot AC. So I'd think that many (not all) Hot AC stations that play lots of newer music would be able to make room for "Where Is The Love".
And really, Beyonce has moved from hip-hop artist to pop star, so any station that mixes in Britney and JLo (again not every Hot AC station) should make room for her.
