Isn't Julia Roberts a bit too big of a star for this video? All I'm seeing when I watch this is "Julia Roberts is playing some character in a music video". I'm not sure I understand. She's a big fan of the band, and plenty of big celebrities have done videos before. How is anyone too big for a video? Just wondering... I mean that once a star becomes big enough, you start to watch whatever movies, videos, etc. that they appear in, and it's hard to think of the person as "Julia Roberts is playing a character in the video", you just think of them as "Julia Roberts is playing Julia Roberts". I'm probably not explaining it too well, but I guess something slightly related would be if you saw David Schwimmer in a movie. It would be hard to think of him as anything other than Ross on "Friends", so his effectiveness in playing the character has been decreased slightly.

Not sure about this specific video though since I haven't seen it yet, but yeah I know what you mean now.

The video was on VH1 this morning. Its pretty out there, but I kind of like it. As for the song, I can do without it.

Yeah, the song isn't catchy at all... It doesn't make much sense as a single. I think the video will get some airplay only because of Julia, but I doubt the song will get more airplay because of it.

^ Ditto.
Julia and the band seemed very friendly on the entertainment report done by "Access Hollywood" (or was it "Entertainment Tonight"?). They were joking around; meanwhile, Julia is sporting a new hairdo. Kind of rastafarian lookin'.

Agree. I saw the video this morning and heard the song for the first time. On one listen only, this is by far my least favorite DMB single. I don't know the lyrics to the song...do they go with the video? I thought the video was weird and I really like Julia Roberts. I just didn't get any kind of connection with it. However, it will probably grow on me.

I said it on a DMB forum I visit and i'll say it here . I think Julia Roberts will boost the crediablity of this video for sure :). As for the guys in the video clip.. very woodern acting from all.. but they are musos and not actors :). Dave sitting in the cinema by him self tho show too much of the 'i am the leader' message.. which I dont like much as I think the band works quite even to produce their music. And finally.. the special effects and over creation of this video is amazing.. and one of their better works for sure! I think I would wake up screaming if I had a dream about Dave kissing me too JB

I've heard Dream Girl a few more times on VH1 since my initial post. As I said, the song has grown on me, although not enough to purchase the album. I consider myself to be a casual DMB fan. I enjoy some of their songs and believe their success is deserved, however, they just aren't an artist I'm crazy about.

I FINALLY caught the video in its entirety on VH1 this morning. It's so different! It's got a real element of excitement to it. Probably one of my favorite videos of the year.

I saw this video on VH1 twice this morning, 5 minutes apart. They totally used this video to bookend "Cool." VH1 is a mess.

I saw this video on VH1 twice this morning, 5 minutes apart. They totally used this video to bookend "Cool." VH1 is a mess. Wow. I remember thinking seeing "We Belong Together" twice in a span of like 40 minutes, and "Trapped In The Closet" three times in two hours was excessive, but that's just messed up. I like the video. It seems pleasant and elegantly made. I have to say, though, the scenes with "little Julia" in the playground and Mr. Shadow watching her, along with Dave in the movie theater, kinda creep me out. Just feels a liiiiiittle too awkward to me. I mean, I know I shouldn't read anything into it, but I guess that's just a product of the culture we live in. And I said this in the report card topic, but Julia Roberts has probably now supplanted Christopher Walken as "most unlikeliest person to appear in a music video but did". Seriously, did anyone see this coming at all? I have to agree with Matt, though. It totally feels like "Hey look! Julia Roberts is in a music video." But hey, so was the Fatboy Slim video to a certain degree. The fact that he was dancing was an added quirk to it. Still, she doesn't hold much of a candle to older brother Eric. Let's see her play the manager of a brothel involved in a love triangle (and, er, Mariah Carey's groom-to-be). Yeah, I didn't think so.

I loved American Baby, but this still sounds kind of bland to me. Nice video though.
