How did Collective Soul and the Goo Goo Dolls do with recent singles? There are some other bands who were big in the 90s that managed to have some hits in the early 2000s but have since had disappointing showings on Hot AC in the last few years. I'm thinking the Counting Crows might join them as well. I haven't heard the song yet but I hope it's good. I like them! But I don't see a Top 20 hit for them... This song is really weak IMO...doubt it'll get played much on Hot AC even - thinkin Adam Duritz just has writer's block lol BTW when u listen to the song it sounds like he's singin "You Can Count On Me" so not sure how anyone listenin is supposed to figure out that he means the opposite The Goo Goo Dolls have been tearin up the Hot AC charts (their last five singles have all hit Top 10, and a bunch have been Top 5, but that's cause they continue to put out pretty strong material (even if it sounds similar to stuff they've already put out) Collective Soul can put out one CD with songs that flop, followed by another CD with songs that become huge Hot AC hits...so still not givin up on them

Now that I've actually heard the STUDIO version of this song, I think there is some hope that radio friendliness exists on this album. I'm starting to like this more than anything from Hard Candy...very catchy!

Here's Billboards review of "You Can't Count On Me" ( www.billboard.com/bbcom/content_display/reviews/singles/e3ifbf63e08888f1b20ce9f262609d4f91b): Fans have been able to count on Counting Crows for its consistent output of catchy pop/rock for some 17 years now, and yet in all that time, Adam Duritz and company have issued a mere six full-length studio albums—including new set "Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings," due March 25. First single "You Can't Count on Me" is quick and dirty, just slightly more than 3 minutes, but gets the job done, with jangly guitars, swift singalong chorus and ironic lyric that insists that a lover might do well to pink slip him: "I still can't do most of the things I should, I can't stop this crawling out of my skin/ There's just one thing you need to know, that you can't count on me." Triple A is a given here, but with a robust record at adult top 40, the Crows are as likely to soar across multiple genres. With such modern classics as "Mr. Jones," "A Long December," "Hanginaround" and Academy Award-nominated "Shrek 2" contribution "Accidentally in Love," the group continues to knock it out of the park. "Count" on another homer. —Chuck Taylor

Again, this will be the album that solidifies CC as a AAA-only artist. "Come Around," the last track on the album, is the only other song that might remotely have a shot. I think that YCCOM was their only real hope. Those two particular tracks are the most radio-friendly, but not necessarily present-day Hot AC friendly. I wouldn't be surprised if Triple A charted at least two, maybe three, singles from the record.

After hearing the album, I think there are two tracks that could work at Hot AC: Hanging Tree and Come Around. Hanging Tree is the bigger gamble because the instrumentation is rough around the edges, but it has a killer hook and could be huge if given a chance. Come Around is the safe bet, but may not stand out enough to get alot of traction, especially coming after a failed first single. I'll root for either of 'em though... great songs. Aside from those two, both Los Angeles and Sundays are fun songs with a cool groove and could have a shot as a third single. The big question now is what kind of promotion Geffen will put into this next single. Given the summer tour w/ Maroon 5, hopefully they'll try to push it.

I know what you mean. ;) They should rename the song "Dizzy Life" for the single, though they might not sell many albums that way. Kinda reminds me of that whole debacle when Hard Candy was released and Geffen wanted "Richard Manual is Dead" to be called "If I Could Give All My Love." In the end they titled it "Richard Manual is Dead -or- If I could Give All My Love" on the album.
