If this is going to Alternative radio, it'll definitely go to Hot AC and AAA too. In fact, the song is much more suited towards the latter two. Great comeback single.

How has Adam listened to it? Would love some more information. Oh, sorry, hello. Yes. I had an early preview of it from my usual source and that's pretty much it. I think it's out at radio on May 11, so you should be hearing it then.

Thanks for the reply Adam. Are you able to tell us anything about it? Is it a strong single? Is it akin to anything she's done previously? It is radio friendly. How does it compare to underneath. Any tidbits would be really appreciated.

Any tidbits would be really appreciated. When I first heard it, the vocal sort of reminded me of "So Pure", which is why I keep telling people that it sounds like it would've been a good radio single in the late 90's. It's on the lighter side, so think "Everything"/"Underneath" in terms of the more mainstream production style, but I like it quite a lot. It's a lot of guitar, drum, piano and a bit of xylophone. It's radio ready. It's my favorite leadoff from her since possibly "Hands Clean", though I liked "Everything" and this might be even better than that. However, with "Underneath" missing the top 20 a few years ago, it's hard to tell how accepting the format will be to this new one.

I think Alanis made a big mistake by not releasing "Eight Easy Steps" as the first single from SCC. "Everything" stiffed and she never recovered. I don't see why radio would be allergic to her, after all she's only 37.

Thank you very much Adam.
With Alanis, melodically and sonically she seems fine for radio. It's the lyrical content that is a problem. I mean how many people could actually understand and relate to Underneath? Hands Clean worked because it was clearly about a relationship gone wrong, which people can relate to broadly, even if they didn't get the subtleties in the lyrics. I hope the lyrics of Gaurdian are more universal and less of Alanis going on about her 'ideals'.
She always has songs on the albums that would make much more sense as first and second singles than what her previous record company used to pick. She's under a new label as far as I understand though.

I don't see why radio would be allergic to her, after all she's only 37. Could not disagree more. Everything didn't "stiff" -- it hit No. 4 on Hot AC, and I really doubt Eight Easy steps would do that well. Nothing she puts out will go up the pop charts, so her main audience is Hot AC and AAA, where Everything hit No. 1 -- something she hadn't done at AAA since Ironic. I think Underneath was the biggest mistake. It was not relatable to the general public and not radio friendly at all. Her first singles off each album are the only thing that radio pays attention to, so if she releases something subpar, the album is done for at radio. I am optimistic for this era though

The lyrics, the production and the vidoe clip were all vile. Since URS, her second singles have always been poor choices.

and I really doubt Eight Easy steps would do that well. Although once it was remixed for the clubs, (like many of her later singles), it got heard, and It. Was. Hot.

No, that started with SFIJ. She had big momentum with "Thank You" and then blew it with "Unsent" a song with no discernible hook whatsoever. Her label should have stepped in on that one.

Out Is Through was a great song! Though not really single material. At least second single material. I think Everything being the first single was the mis-step for that album which I think is one of Alanis' best.
Guardian is most reminiscent to me to her Under Rug Swept days.

But I loved Unsent still.

Yeah, Alanis could've made better single choices.
Citizen Of The Planet should've been the first single off FOE. I'm not sure how well it would've done, but the song is terrific and has an edge, so I'm sure it would've made some initial impact.
And I see how Everything wasn't the right song as a lead single for SCC, but it's the first Alanis song I heard when I started listening to the radio regularly in 2004, and it was the song that made me a huge fan, so I'll always hold that song in high regard.

Awww Everything made me her fan as well xD It made me purchase my first Alanis album (So-Called Chaos). It's really amazing that her worst effort (imo) was strong enough to make me her fan! The preview of "Guardian" sounds heavenly the part "why, why did you talk to me at all" is sung soooo beautifully!

In addition to being reminiscent of the URS days, there is a slight hint of the Jagged Little Pill sound as well, which excites me. Slightly gritty production on the vocals. Sounds almost as if it were recorded during that time and updated with FoE era production on the music.

CLIP is amazing! I would love for her to even see some minor success. Her last album was INCREDIBLE.
I'd love for this to go at least top 20 on HAC and top 10 on Triple a. anything else is just cake

Guardian is most reminiscent to me to her Under Rug Swept days. There's a line in Hands Clean about loving an older guy "like a young thing does to a guardian" or something like that...

FULL LYRICS: www.metrolyrics.com/blog/2012/05 ... -premiere/ You, you who has smiled when youβre in pain You who has soldiered through the profane They were distracted and shut down So why, why would you talk to me at all such words were dishonorable and in vain their promise as solid as a fog and where was your watchman then Iβll be your keeper for life as your guardian Iβll be your warrior of care your first warden Iβll be your angel on call, Iβll be on demand The greatest honor of all, as your guardian you, you in the chaos feigning sane You who has pushed beyond whatβs humane Them as the ghostly tumbleweed And where was your watchman then Iβll be your keeper for life as your guardian Iβll be your warrior of care your first warden Iβll be your angel on call, Iβll be on demand The greatest honor of all, as your guardian now no more smiling mid crestfall No more managing unmanageables No more holding still in the hailstorm Now enter your watchwoman Iβll be your keeper for life as your guardian Iβll be your warrior of care your first warden Iβll be your angel on call, Iβll be on demand The greatest honor of all, as your guardian

Is there a way of checking where this is going for adds and what the adds have been? There's a way, yes, but there are no adds nor an adds date--it's not even at radio until Friday.
