Check out the new website. Interesting... NORTH (I wonder what this title is all about). Is Rob rapping on the album....internet rumor starting. Time will tell if true. www.matchboxtwenty.com/AI used Disease this week apparently. Other than Smooth I think this is the first MB20 song they have allowed on the show. First move in the PR campaign to get MB20 back out there.

So excited for this! I loved How Far We've Come.
Between MB20, No Doubt, and Alanis, I hope they can make a dent in the charts.

First move in the PR campaign to get MB20 back out there. I don't think they have to worry about that, at least on Hot AC. "How Far We've Come" shot up fairly fast. I remember it leapfrogged most of the Hot 100 in one week.

I will be surprised if it doesn't have one of the biggest bullets of the year coming out of the gate. I also expect to hear a lot more M20 recurrents played in the next month.

Time will tell if true. www.matchboxtwenty.com/AI used Disease this week apparently. Other than Smooth I think this is the first MB20 song they have allowed on the show. First move in the PR campaign to get MB20 back out there. Paul Doucette has said in a new interview that the title "North" is a reference to the fact the band have leafed through a heaping pile of different songs they've written over the last few years, and the key to finally whittling down to an album's worth of songs was the band deciding on, if they were approaching the material and their artistic pursuits from a compass's point of view.........which songs would point "North" on it. It is interesting that this will be their first apt album title to date. I was expecting another wordy title for their first full-length album (of entirely new material) in a decade! ;) It does seem the band has a LOT of material on hand, so I'm actually hoping they release a stand-alone follow-up, at the very least an EP, respectively titled "South", that consists of tracks that are most markedly curve-balls from their core sound, but still would be just as appealing to listen to. On twitter today, someone asked Rob if She's So Mean was pop or rock. He replied that it is pop and rock - straight down the middle. Funny guy! They sure are being tight lipped over the sound of the album. Of course, the album is still 3 months away but still....

From Billboard --
"She's So Mean": Between the guitar sound and big chorus, the "North" lead single recalls the band's late '90s early days. With lyrics about a bad girl who "drinks Bacardi in the morning," it's ready to soundtrack a future "Jersey Shore" episode, or at least a summer at the beach. Thomas says the song's about "the wrong kind of girls that we've probably all dated," though as a band of mostly married men for the last decade, they turned to other sources of inspiration. "Luckily, you have single friends who are making really bad decisions, so you can draw on their experiences," he laughed.

I can't wait to hear it. That's the first desciption that I've read about the song. I am intrigued. A DJ in Australia tweeted a few days ago to Rob that he had heard it and freaking loved it.

Comes out next week--there's a game on matchboxtwenty.com that will apparently unlock a snippet (I can't see it on my iPad because it's made in Flash).

IT IS VERY POPPY! WOW! Not what I was expecting. It's certainly not the same old thing. It's as different as How Far We've Come was.
I think I'll love it but it's a little different. The drums in that segment are great and the lyrics are abundant and quick.
This song will either hit with an impact or not. They didn't pick this as the first single to slowly climb the charts. It's so poppy I would release it to Pop at the same time as HotAC. They will either be on board for new Matchbox Twenty or they won't be.

Single CoverLyric Sample'Cause she's an uptown, get around, anything goes girl, girl She's a hardcore, candy store, give me some more girl, girl She'll make you take her to the club but then she leaves with her friends She likes to stay late at the party 'cause the fun never ends And all her clothes are on the floor and all your records are scratched She's like a one way ticket 'cause you can't come back

Just listened to the 30 second clip, not even the chorus and this sounds catchy as hell. I'll be shocked if it doesn't have even more success than How Far We've Come. There really isn't anything like this on the radio right now, and it is VERY summery. Look for this to shoot to #1 by the end of the July and I can't see how it wouldn't at least have the same success as Drive By by Train.

Well, after getting over the initial adjustment to the sound...it actually sounds vintage Matchbox to me and I can see where the guy from Billboard recalled their earlier sound on this one.
I'll just say it now. Instant hit in the US and Australia.
Kyle Cook said there would be some sing-a-long songs on the album and I think this is our first indication of what he meant.

First webisode. Writing of the song and then the same clip. I actually think they may have the roll out of this song on target. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMM-GGstvYQ&feature=youtu.beI love seeing this kind of thing...the inception of a thought to the finished product. :)
