This sounds incredibly similar to another song. I'm thinking something from the 60s?

This sounds incredibly similar to another song. I'm thinking something from the 60s? Maybe "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel? This isn't really that similiar though.

I'm in love with the snippet. That hook is really making me think that the chorus is extremely catchy, explosive, and sing-able.

Logged in for the first time in awhile to post about this song. Now this is what modern pop/rock should sound like! The verses are bouncy and the prechorus already has be humming. Cannot wait for this to come out.

Sounds pretty awesome in the clip!! alanis and Matchbox on the radio again!! we just need some new Goo goo Dolls and it will be the 90s God, I wish they were as good as their word because then that'd totally happen! But no, they're slowpokes about releasing albums. Boo-urns. Getting back on topic, I'm kind of on the fence about that snippet. I feel like this could end up being very good or very bad.

Not a deep song, nothing ground breaking musically, but a Bam-Pow-Dance-Around-The-Pool Summer Song. Everyone can relate to the lyrics and half the population will think it's about them. Summer hit.

Already heard this on my local Hot AC station this morning. It's a little too pop for me, but I think it is the strongest debut single they have had since Bent in 2000. This will go #1 for sure on Hot AC, and could very well go Top 10 on CHR\POP. It sounds like the direction people expected them to go on Mad Season, but as we all know, they wen't a little more mature\deep. This is just a fun song, can't wait for the album.
I also look forward to watching this song's performance on the charts. I see it opening right out of the gate. Possibly in the 5 to 600's by week's end.

This is one of my least favorite singles they've ever released. It's way too soccer mom pop-rock.

It took 10 listens but loving this now. Their best single in a long, long time. It's MB20 being pop and rock without sounding like anyone else out there. It's not Train, it's not Daughtry, it's not Maroon 5, etc, etc. The harmonies have a real Cars feel to me. I hope this is a huge hit for them and that pop gives it some love. The lyrics are catchy and fun without being corny (not mentioning any band name). ;)
Great job!

I like this a lot. I'm glad that they're back, and releasing another album. I hope they see some success again this time around. I think this song is catchy yet current enough to do as well as Train's recent material, at least.

In the past hour I've gone from loving this song to it becoming probably my favorite song by the band. That "she's so mean" chorus is killer and if this song were by, say, The Killers we would be saying what a great rock song it is rather than a pop song. :o Anyway, it will be interesting (and hopefully enjoyable) to watch it climb the charts. It's good to have new music by this band because honestly I had written the band off a little after Exile. I think this song will get a lot of their older fans excited for the band again and hopefully win over a big chunk of new fans.

This song is AMAZING. I have missed this band so much. I liked Rob Thomas's solo stuff, but it's good to see him back with the rest of the boys from matchbox twenty. This song deserves to be a big big hit.

This sounds incredibly similar to another song. I'm thinking something from the 60s? Only thing I got when I listened just now: the repeated chord sequence kinda reminded me of "Brimful of Asha", even though they're not the same. This song's okay, but not impressive. Chorus is disappointing after a well-constructed pre-chorus.

I don't mean that as an insult, just stating that it's pure pop, basically an extension of Rob's solo work. Since I'm being lazy, copypasta-ing what I said in the alt/active forum and adding stuff. This is like a hot mess than I can't decide whether or not I like it. Sticks in my head but the production is lacking. I'm disappointed that they'd go so poppy after they haven't been really rocky for a long time but it's easily more memorable than most of the stuff they'd written for Exile.

No offense. I think there's very much a rock element to this song but not everyone will agree. It's a great, fun, upbeat pop/rock song. That's it's intent and that's what they have accomplished while maintaining an edge and still staying true to their sound.
That's why I love coming to this board. Someone can trash this song but then believe that Taylor Swift is a lyrical genesis. There's something for everyone here.
It's been a fun first listen day for us diehard fans.
Prediction - #1 on HotAC in 10 weeks.

With no significant guitar presence by having said guitars take a backseat in the overall arrangement to me indicates that it's a poppy song with a hook. Make of that what you will.

The full song is in the Rock forum thread - the song is a complete disorganized mess - it has a couple catchy parts to it, but it's so all over the place - sounds like 3-4 different songs hooked together
I don't think pop or Hot AC is gonna know what to do with this...

Listen to it a few more times; it really grows on you. That prechorus is probably my favorite part. Could easily see this on many Hot AC stations. Not sure about other formats though..

Starting to change my mind about this (not sure what I was thinking last night) - they really did adjust their sound to fit in with 2012 pop, just like Train did
I still think it sounds a little convoluted, but maybe younger listeners will like the fact that it has so many different hooks

This was at +89 yesterday on 35 stations...and it came out at lunch ONLINE streaming, not even a physical copy. This could very well be at four digits by the end of the week.

The sound of "Unwell," does not match "If You're Gone," which in turn doesn't match "3 AM." There have been subtle changes to their sound all along. You have to if you want to stay fresh.

^What does stay the same, though, is that Rob is constantly intimidated by/frustrated by women - I wonder what his wife thinks of all his lyrics...
