The four that drop out to make room are: "Sun City" by Artists United Against Apartheid (LW: 40), "Sisters Are Doing it For Themselves" by Eurythmics & Aretha Franklin (LW: 37), "You Belong to the City" by Glenn Frey (LW: 34), and "Do it For Love" by Sheena Easton (LW: 33). NOTES: - This week's Station of the Week: WZMJ.
- This is, to date, the show with the latest date on the calendar among any incarnation of AT40. The show's decision to go with a one-week, 8-hour year-end countdown starting two years prior is one reason why this was possible; the other is that January 4 is the week that Billboard decided to take off during the 15-year period (1976-1991) that they did that. (1991 is the only other year in that period that uses this same exact calendar, but that was also the year of the November 30 chart change, and they opted for December 28 as their off-week that year anyway.)
- As with 12/21, there's a couple of holiday-related mentions in this end-of-December show, but no extra songs to go with them.
- Normally, it'd be stylized A-Ha, but apparently that was not the norm for them - at least, not according to the information given for their extra.
- That said, I'm not sure what the point was of listing off different random Billboard #1s before suddenly shifting to "Secret Lovers" for that extra.
- You know...every so often, there will be a not-so-fitting lead-in to a LDD on a given show - 1985 in particular was notorious for this, in several shows (such as 9-14, and the not-so-well-known 3-9). But here, the second LDD has such a fitting lead-in with "I Miss You"...that song could actually itself fit the dedication.
- #1 on the Country chart: "Have Mercy" by The Judds
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Don't Say No Tonight" by Eugene Wilde
- #1 on the Album chart: The Miami Vice soundtrack

The show's decision to go with a one-week, 8-hour year-end countdown starting two years prior is one reason why this was possible And speaking of which...guess what the next two weeks are going to look like? AMERICAN TOP 40 TOP 100 SONGS OF 1983 - PART ONE(Original airdate: December 31, 1983) 100 Frank Stallone - Far From Over (10) 99 The Talking Heads - Burning Down the House (9) 98 Supertramp - It's Raining Again (11) 97 Loverboy - Hot Girls in Love (11) 96 Jackson Browne - Lawyers in Love (13) 95 David Bowie - China Girl (10) 94 Sammy Hagar - Your Love is Driving Me Crazy (13) 93 Laura Branigan - How Am I Supposed to Live Without You (12) 92 The Tubes - She's a Beauty (10) 91 Elton John - I'm Still Standing (12) 90 Journey - Faithfully (12) 89 Asia - Don't Cry (10) Flashback Extra: Stevie Nicks "If Anyone Falls", which reached #14 but missed the Top 10088 Toto - I Won't Hold You Back (10) 87 Diana Ross - Muscles (10) 86 Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel the Noize (5) 85 Naked Eyes - Promises, Promises (11) 84 Culture Club - I'll Tumble 4 Ya (9) 83 Frida - I Know There's Something Going On (13) 82 ABC - The Look of Love (18) 81 Naked Eyes - Always Something There to Remind Me (8) 80 Michael Jackson - Human Nature (7) 79 Prince - Delirious (8) 78 Christopher Cross - All Right (12) 77 Madness - Our House (7) 76 The Kinks - Come Dancing (6) Flashback Extra: Bryan Adams "Cuts Like a Knife", which just missed the Top 10075 Hall & Oates - Family Man (6) 74 Kenny Loggins - Heart to Heart (15) 73 Lionel Richie - My Love (5) 72 The Motels - Suddenly Last Summer (9) 71 Peabo Bryson & Roberta Flack - Tonight I Celebrate My Love (16) 70 The Stray Cats - (She's) Sexy + 17 (5) 69 Rick Springfield - Affair of the Heart (9) 68 Men at Work - It's a Mistake (6) 67 The Little River Band - The Other Guy (11) 66 Laura Branigan - Solitaire (7) 65 Kajagoogoo - Too Shy (5) 64 The Stray Cats - Rock This Town (9) 63 Billy Joel - Allentown (17) Flashback Extra: Big Country "In a Big Country"62 Sheena Easton - Telefone (Long Distance Love Affair) (9) 61 Adam Ant - Goody Two Shoes (12) 60 Dionne Warwick - Heartbreaker (10) 59 Neil Diamond - Heartlight (5) 58 The Human League - (Keep Feeling) Fascination (8) 57 Golden Earring - Twilight Zone (10) 56 Styx - Don't Let it End (6) 55 Michael Jackson - Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' (5) 54 The Police - King of Pain (3) 53 Duran Duran - Is There Something I Should Know? (4) Flashback Extra: David Bowie "Modern Love"52 Phil Collins - You Can't Hurry Love (10) 51 The Clash - Rock the Casbah (8) NOTES: - This was the first time AT40 crammed a full Top 100 into a single weekend, though obviously it'll be aired in two parts just as '85 was last year. Unlike '85, however, AT40 compiled this year's chart themselves.
- There were no jingles for any songs. Wonder if they'll be restricted to the "top 40" portion of the survey, or if the Top 100 was in fact jingle-free?
- DISPARITY: "I Know There's Something Going On" is #83 on this year-end survey...but was all the way up at #20 on Billboard's. :o Also, these ten songs did not make Billboard's survey: "Burning Down the House", "It's Raining Again", "Muscles", "Cum On Feel the Noize", "The Look of Love", "Delirious", "Suddenly Last Summer", "Telefone (Long Distance Love Affair)", "Heartlight", and "King of Pain". Quiet Riot were placed in 1984, but none of the rest made any year's survey (not even the #3-peaking "King of Pain"!).
- Top Female Artist (Singles & Albums combined): Laura Branigan
- Billboard's Top New Act of 1983: Culture Club
- Billboard's Top Group (Singles & Albums combined): Men at Work
- Billboard's Top Singles Artist, Top Soul Singles Artist, Top Soul Albums Artist, Top Dance & Disco Artist, and Top Male Artist: Michael Jackson
- Billboard's Top Singles Group: The Police
- Also, Men at Work are the year's Top Australian Act and The Stray Cats are the year's Top American Newcomer.
- This part of the Top 100 was produced by Laurie Kremming rather than Toby James Petty, who's produced most of the past year's aired shows.
AMERICAN TOP 40 TOP 100 SONGS OF 1983 - PART TWO(Original airdate: December 31, 1983) 50 Stevie Nicks - Stand Back (5) 49 Hall & Oates - One on One (7) 48 The Pretenders - Back on the Chain Gang (5) 47 The Fixx - One Thing Leads to Another (4) 46 Prince - Little Red Corvette (6) 45 Taco - Puttin' on the Ritz (4) 44 After The Fire - Der Kommissar (5) 43 Spandau Ballet - True (4) 42 The Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut (3) 41 Kenny Rogers & Sheena Easton - We've Got Tonight (6) 40 Journey - Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) (8) 39 Men at Work - Overkill (3) Flashback Extra: Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson "Say Say Say", the final #1 song of 1983, which would go on to become the #1 song of all of 198438 Lionel Richie - You Are (4) 37 Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me With Science (5) 36 Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out (6) 35 Culture Club - Time (Clock of the Heart) (2) 34 Billy Joel - Uptown Girl (3) 33 The Greg Kihn Band - Jeopardy (2) 32 Billy Joel - Tell Her About It (1) 31 Styx - Mr. Roboto (3) 30 Lionel Richie - Truly (1) 29 Men Without Hats - The Safety Dance (3) 28 Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen (1) 27 Don Henley - Dirty Laundry (3) 26 Toto - Africa (1) Flashback Extra: Huey Lewis & The News "Heart and Soul"25 Sergio Mendes - Never Gonna Let You Go (4) 24 Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney - The Girl is Mine (2) 23 Eddy Grant - Electric Avenue (2) 22 Donna Summer - She Works Hard For the Money (3) 21 Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf (3) 20 Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing (3) 19 Air Supply - Making Love Out of Nothing at All (2) 18 Eddie Rabbitt & Crystal Gayle - You and I (7) 17 David Bowie - Let's Dance (1) 16 Culture Club - Do You Really Want to Hurt Me (2) 15 Toni Basil - Mickey (1) 14 Michael Sembello - Maniac (1) 13 Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (1) Flashback Extra: Prince "1999"12 Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Shame on the Moon (2) 11 Patti Austin & James Ingram - Baby, Come to Me (1) 10 Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton - Islands in the Stream (1) 09 Laura Branigan - Gloria (2) 08 Michael Jackson - Beat It (1) 07 Lionel Richie - All Night Long (All Night) (1) 06 Hall & Oates - Maneater (1) 05 Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart (1) 04 Men at Work - Down Under (1) 03 Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (1) Flashback Extra: Duran Duran "Rio"02 Irene Cara - Flashdance...What a Feeling (1) 01 The Police - Every Breath You Take (1)NOTES: - After a full first half with no jingles whatsoever, Part Two kicks off with a "Number...50!"
- Missing Billboard's Top 100 on this one: "One Thing Leads to Another", "Uptown Girl", "Islands in the Stream", and "All Night Long (All Night)", all except the first of which were transferred to 1984. The other one didn't make either year (despite hitting #4)!
- The Top 100 of 1983 would be the last Casey-hosted show with the current theme package, including the "Shuckatoom" theme - but right after #32 "Tell Her About It", they played a bumper that sort of serves as a preview for their next theme package.
- "Gloria" is the song that spent the most weeks on the Hot 100 from a woman (up till that point, anyway).
- Talk about your Freudian slips...Casey introed "Beat It" as the song that spent 7 weeks at #1. Oy!
- Hmmm...The Police have often had to debunk myths that "Every Breath You Take" is a love song. Casey's intro at #1...certainly didn't help matters.
- We're back to Toby James Petty as Premiere producer this week.
- Billboard's Top Female Album Artist: Stevie Nicks
- Billboard's Top Album Group (and Albums + Singles combined): Men at Work
- Billboard's #1 Producer of the Year: Quincy Jones
- #1 Soul Song of the Year: "Sexual Healing"
- #1 Album of the Year: Thriller
- Top Duo of the Year: Hall & Oates
- Top Pop Artist, Top Soul Artist, Top Dance Artist, Top Songwriter of the Year: Michael Jackson
- Billboard's Top Female Singles Artist: Irene Cara. "Flashdance" is also the top movie song of the year.
- Casey didn't say what Billboard's top Country song of the year, but did mention that "Islands in the Stream" was the top Country song according to American Country Countdown (a counterpart to AT40).
- There must be slightly different versions of the show produced for different regions - when I posted this right after hearing the show yesterday, Larry Morgan's end credits were the same as they'd been previously. On WCRZ, however, his end credits now included Scott Lakefield (also administrator of the AT40 Proboard) and a Mike Savage, and he actually gave his own name last as well. WCRZ, by the way, played all four extras again. It'll be nice if this is a sign of things to come...but we'll see.

Lorre Crimi has been with Premiere all these years since Ryan took over AT40... LinkedIn currently lists her as executive producer of Sixx Sense, the rock-music program hosted for many years by Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx (and which at one time costarred Kerri Kasem)... Sixx announced he is ending his program end of this year, so she may have needed something to do...

Sixx announced he is ending his program end of this year, so she may have needed something to do... Everything quoted is from its 2011 airing. Who knows what, if anything, has changed since then (though I doubt it'll be very much).

Now on to 1977... This weekend's extras... Hour #1: "Life In The Fast Lane" - The Eagles Hour #2: "How Deep Is Your Love" - The Bee Gees Hour #3: "Blue Bayou" - Linda Ronstadt Hour #4: Medley of #1 Songs Next weekend's extras... Hour #1: "Luckenbach, Texas (Back To The Basics Of Love)" - Waylon Jennings Hour #2: "Go Your Own Way" - Fleetwood Mac Hour #3: "Star Wars" - John Williams & London Symphony Orchestra Hour #4: Medley Of #1 Songs Why do the medley of #1 songs twice? Doesn't make sense if you ask me. Because both halves of the Top 100 of 1977 originally Included those. If Premiere had cut one of them out, then someone else would be b!tching and moaning about it.

I don't know.. I did notice medley songs in part II, while recapping #1, notice that same song doesn't play twice, but part I for medley songs, few songs played twice as it played in chronological order if song went back to #1 again

Now here are this weekend's shows with only one post for this week's preview (and a surprise '80s choice) "AT40: The '70s" this week presents 1/14/1978 which previously aired in 2009. Two songs debuted and one song re-enters this week: "Long, Long Way From Home" - Foreigner (#37) "As" - Stevie Wonder (#38; re-entry) "Too Hot Ta Trot" - Commodores (#40) Three songs fell off this week: "Isn't It Time" - The Babys (#32) "We're All Alone" - Rita Coolidge (#35) "Swingtown" - Steve Miller Band (#36) Biggest Mover: "Stayin' Alive" - The Bee Gees (#28 to #17) Biggest Dropper: "It's So Easy" - Linda Ronstadt (#15 to #30) Original extras: "Midnight Blue" - Melissa Manchester The song, originally an op extra in 2009, will actually be played during the show Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "The Way You Do The Things You Do" - Rita Coolidge (#84; debuted) Hour #2: "Thunder Island" - Jay Ferguson (#54) Hour #3: "The Name Of The Game" - ABBA (#57) "AT40: The '80s" presents 1/18/1986 and it is actually the only show scheduled for this weekend (since AT40 began planning "B" shows for the '80s three years ago, only 1983 and 1984 were standalone years). The show previously aired in 2011 and in 2015. Here is my 2011 repost: Only two songs debuted this week: "Sara" - Starship (#39) "Silent Running" - Mike & The Mechanics (#40) Two songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Emergency" - Kool & The Gang (#24) "Object Of My Desire" - Starpoint (#32) Biggest Mover (tie): "When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Gets Going" - Billy Ocean (#26 to #16) "Kyrie" - Mr. Mister (#39 to #29) Biggest Dropper: "Election Day" - Arcadia (#15 to #35) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "Through The Years" - Kenny Rogers "I'm Alive" - Electric Light Orchestra Premiere optional extras (all four songs debuted on the Hot 100 this week): "King For A Day" - Thompson Twins (#52; highest debut) "What You Need" - INXS (#96) "This Could Be The Night" - Loverboy (#87) "These Dreams" - Heart (#54)
