Electric Light Orchestra - Last Train to London
It's amazing how this song only peaked at #39. It sounded like #1 material. This is there most loved song on my side of the border.

Wel, we all know what's going to be played this weekend so let's get this over with. Just one post for this weekend's preview. "AT40: The '70s" this week presents 6/9/1973 which aired back in 2009. It's worth noting that AT40 used an incorrect chart provided by Billboard this week thus chart info will come from the actual chart and not the show itself. Four songs debuted this week: "Natural High" - Bloodstone (#30) - not heard in show "You'll Never Get To Heaven (If You Break My Heart)" - The Stylistics (#36) - will be played as an op extra "Behind Closed Doors" - Charlie Rich (#38) - not heard in show "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" - Bette Midler (#39) - not heard in show Four songs fell off this week: "It Sure Took A Long Long Time" - Lobo (#30) - heard on this week's show at #37 "Close Your Eyes" - Edward Bear (#37) - heard on this week's show at #40 "Superfly Meets Shaft" - John & Ernest (#39) - heard on this week's show at #38 "Back When My Hair Was Short" - Gunhill Road (#40) Biggest Mover: "Shambala" - Three Dog Night (#36 to #19) Biggest Dropper: "Little Willy" - Sweet (#8 to #24) Original extras: None Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "You'll Never Get To Heaven (If You Break My Heart)" - The Stylistics (#36) Hour #2: "Yesterday Once More" - The Carpenters (#69) Hour #3: "Touch Me In The Morning" - Diana Ross (#65) "AT40: The '80s" this week presents 6/8/1985 which aired in 2008 and in 2012. Here was my 2012 repost: Five songs debuted this week: "Sentimental Street" - Night Ranger (#33) "Getcha Back" - The Beach Boys (#34) "Glory Days" - Bruce Springsteen (#37) "Cannonball" - Supertramp (#39) "Just As I Am" - Air Supply (#40) Five songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Don't Come Around Here No More" - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (#29) "New Attitude" - Patti LaBelle (#30) "'Til My Baby Comes Home" - Luther Vandross (#32) "Obsession" - Animotion (#33) "Show Some Respect" - Tina Turner (#37) Biggest Mover: "A View To A Kill" - Duran Duran (#27 to #15) Biggest Dropper: "Some Like It Hot" - The Power Station (#16 to #27) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" - Chicago "Waiting For A Girl Like You" - Foreigner Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "I Wonder If I Take You Home" - Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force (#86; debuted) Hour #2: "Centerfield" - John Fogerty (#53) Hour #3: "What About Love" - Heart (#56) Hour #4: "People Are People" - Depeche Mode (#51)

General Public - Tenderness (27)
This song peaking at #27 was a bad call. Should have gone top 5.

Only guest-hosted shows remain from the 80s, along with the first year and change of the Shadoe Stevens era. We'll see where the series goes from here, I guess...
- WCRZ had minimal commercials during the first hour, but would then pad the final commercial breaks of each subsequent hour - they still finished before Midnight, but only by a couple minutes. Oh, and they played all four extras in the meantime.
- "Love the World Away" would debut the following week (hosted by Dave Roberts) at #44, then hit the countdown at #34 when Casey returned.
- On a semi-related note, the guest host the next week means that these are the last 70s Archives we'll hear from Casey (which is true even if my first point wasn't the case); the only one left after this is "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)".
- This is a fairly strange chart this week, with lots of very slow falling within the countdown - while all six droppers take fairly large falls out: To #60, #61, #62, #63, #66, and #64, in that order. (I.E. Starting with the highest dropper, they fell 24-60, 26-61, 31-62, and so forth.)
- Meanwhile, five songs are all peaking either at or fairly close to #30, and among the peaking or falling songs at or below #15, every single one of them would spend no greater than just four more weeks on the entire Hot 100 (with just one exception: "Theme From New York, New York", which lasted five more weeks).
- Story behind "Dancing in the Street" as an Extra: Casey answered a Question Letter asking what female act in the Rock Era had had the most Top 10 hits without ever hitting #1 - the answer of course being Martha and the Vandellas, with "Dancing in the Street" as their biggest hit (hitting #2).
- Another story that Casey has told elsewhere - this time it's the story of Billy Joel's sped-up Cold Spring Harbor record, re-told at least once later on 8-2-86.
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Let's Get Serious"
- #1 on the Country chart: "My Heart/Silent Night" by Ronnie Milsap
- #1 on the Album chart: Glass Houses by Billy Joel

AC/DC, Elvis Presley, and John Lennon all in the same chart. You would never see that in today's Top 40. BTW, that Donnie Iris song.

I was stumped about its relevance to the 1971 countdown until it was pointed out to me that three members of that group went on to become Hamilton, Joe Frank, & Reynolds, at #5 on the 7/3/71 chart with "Don't Pull Your Love".
