Next weekend, there is just one '70s and one '80s show this week so just one post and even better (not really) - one edited repost! Clarification: This coming weekend's AT40: The 70's will be just one episode and not two. And with that just one post this week for my AT40 preview. "AT40: The '70s" this week will be from 9/28/1974 Three songs debuted this week: "Surfin' U.S.A." - The Beach Boys (#36) "One Day At A Time" - Marilyn Sellars (#37) "Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me)" - Reunion (#40) Three songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "The Night Chicago Died" - Paper Lace (#31) "Rub It In" - Billy "Crash" Craddock (#34) "Wild Thing" - Fancy (#35) Biggest Mover: "Love Me For A Reason" - The Osmonds (#37 to #27) Biggest Dropper: "Let's Put It All Together" - The Stylistics (#18 to #35) Original extras: None Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Whatever Gets You Through The Night" - John Lennon with the Plastic Ono Nuclear Band (#53; highest debut) Hour #2: "When Will I See You Again" - The Three Degrees (#94; debuted) Hour #3: "I Can Help" - Billy Swan (#90; debuted) "AT40: The '80s" this week presents 9/28/1985. This show previously aired back in 2008: Five songs debuted this week: "Be Near Me" - ABC (#36) "One Night Love Affair" - Bryan Adams (#37) "And We Danced" - The Hooters (#38) "You Belong To The City" - Glenn Frey (#39) "We Built This City" - Starship (#40) Five songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Shame" - The Motels (#27) "Shout" - Tears For Fears (#32) "Never Surrender" - Corey Hart (#33) "Life In One Day" - Howard Jones (#34) "No Looking Back" - Michael McDonald (#36) Biggest Mover: "Miami Vice Theme" - Jan Hammer (#37 to #22) Biggest Dropper: "Summer Of '69" - Bryan Adams (#21 to #35) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "In My Room" - The Beach Boys "Imagine" - John Lennon Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Weird Science" - Oingo Boingo (#56) Hour #2: "Never" - Heart (#46) Hour #3: "So In Love" - Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark (#54) Hour #4: "Broken Wings" - Mr. Mister (#66) Of note: For 1974, "When Will I See You Again" is new replacing Marvin Hamlisch's "The Entertainer" in the op extra lineup (Hamlisch had recently died when 9/28/1974 last aired five years ago).

This weekend, there are TWO '70s shows and TWO '80s shows so we're back to a two-part posting (how many more of these before the Christmas specials come?). Starting with the '70s first. Now for the two '80s shows The "A" show for this week is from 10/3/1981 which aired back in 2014. Here is an updated repost from that year. There will be a New Orleans Saints pregame show this Sunday at 10 am (followed by the actual Saints game itself). Therefore, 105.1 The River (WJDX-FM) will air American Top 40: The '80s at a special time: 5 am to 9 am. (The River usually airs American Top 40: The '80s Sundays, from 8 am to 12 pm [Central Time].) Hopefully the Saints defense will be ready to face Mike Glennon as opposed to Tony Romo (really?!? Romo?!?). Anyway, I'll start with the '80s preview first since the '70s has two shows this week and of course as indicated, we're starting with 10/3/1981 Three songs debuted this week: "The Theme From 'Hill Street Blues'" - Mike Post (#36) "Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)" - Air Supply (#37) "Burnin' For You" - Blue Oyster Cult (#40) Three songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Fire And Ice" - Pat Benatar (#37) "Some Days Are Diamonds" - John Denver (#38) "Straight From The Heart" - The Allman Brothers Band (#39) Biggest Mover: "Say Goodbye To Hollywood" - Billy Joel (#40 to #30) Biggest Dropper: "Jessie's Girl" - Rick Springfield (#15 to #31) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "Watching The Wheels" - John Lennon "Just The Way You Are" - Billy Joel Archive extras (all three songs are included): "Mrs. Robinson" - Simon & Garfunkel "This Guy's In Love With You" - Herb Alpert "Grazing In The Grass" - Hugh Masekela Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Atlanta Lady (Something About Your Love)" - Marty Balin (#43) Hour #2: "Physical" - Olivia Newton-John (#66; highest debut) Hour #3: "Let's Groove" - Earth, Wind & Fire (#83; debuted) Hour #4: "Hearts" - Marty Balin (#90) Marty Balin passed away on Friday. Due to this two of his songs were added as op extras, replacing Stars On 45's "More Stars" and The Police's "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" respectively. The "B" show is from 10/6/1984 which is in its' fourth airing. Here is my 2011 repost: Five songs debuted this week: "Purple Rain" - Prince (#28; Hot 100 Debut) "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" - Wham! [...] The "B" show this week is from 10/13/1973 which aired in 2009 and in 2012. Here is my 2012 repost. Six songs debuted this week: [...] "You're A Special Part Of Me" - Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye (#35) [...] Had Shannon Lynn repaired the program to cover for the fact that Watermark, per Pete Battistini, played " I'm Falling In Love With You" instead of the actual hit? To the 70s post above, Larry Morgan back in '13 outro'ed the third 1976 extra as "Car Wash with Rose Royce," when it could have been the other way around, or "by" used instead. Something else to fix? :)

35 -- The J. Geils Band - Centerfold (1) First week in the top 40.
Great chart. Little did J.Geils Band know, that they would score one of 1982's biggest #1 songs with Centerfold.
