Well we all know by now what next weekend's shows are going to be and once again, I have to do a two-part post. Let's start with the one '70s offering:

Five songs fell off this week: "You Turn Me On, I'm A Radio" - Joni Mitchell (#26) "Reelin' And Rockin" - Chuck Berry (#27) "Me And Mrs. Jones" - Billy Paul (#31) "Harry Hippie" - Bobby Womack (#33) "Superfly" - Curtis Mayfield (#39)
Biggest Mover (tie): "Danny's Song" - Anne Murray (#35 to #26) "Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye)" - Gladys Knight & The Pips (#40 to #31)
Biggest Dropper: "Hi Hi Hi" - Paul McCartney & Wings (#24 to #38)
Original extras: None
Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Sing" - The Carpenters (#61; highest debut) Hour #2: "Walk On The Wild Side" - Lou Reed (#84) Hour #3: "Little Willy" - Sweet (#74)
The '80s preview will be coming soon.

Now for the '80s portion of this weekend's shows The "A" show for this week will be from 2/20/1982 which aired back in 2008. Four songs debuted this week: "Call Me" - Skyy (#33) "Chariots Of Fire" - Vangelis (#34) "Do You Believe In Love" - Huey Lewis & The News (#38) "Take Off" - Bob & Doug McKenzie (#40) Four songs fell off this week: "Hooked On Classics" - Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (#15) "Leather And Lace" - Stevie Nicks & Don Henley (#16) "Let's Groove" - Earth, Wind & Fire (#27) "Sea Of Love" - Del Shannon (#33) Biggest Mover: "I Love Rock 'n Roll" - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts (#39 to #21) Biggest Dropper: "Cool Night" - Paul Davis (#11 to #39) Original extras: "I'm A Believer" - The Monkees "Baby Love" - The Supremes While "Baby Love" does remain in the broadcast, "I'm A Believer" will be played as one of the optional extras. Long Distance Dedications: "Really Wanna Know You" - Gary Wright "I Will Survive" - Gloria Gaynor Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "I'm A Believer" - The Monkees (original AT40 extra) Hour #2: "Freeze-Frame" - The J. Geils Band (#67; highest debut) Hour #3: "Edge Of Seventeen (Just Like The White Winged Dove)" - Stevie Nicks (#73; debuted) Hour #4: "Theme From Magnum P.I." - Mike Post (#59) The "B" show is from 2/21/1987 which last aired in 2012. Here is an edited repost: Five songs debuted this week: "The Final Countdown" - Europe (#34) "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" - Genesis (#36) "Lean On Me" - Club Nouveau (#37) "Don't Dream It's Over" - Crowded House (#38) "We Connect" - Stacey Q (#40) Five songs fell off the Top 40 this week: "Control" - Janet Jackson (#31) "This Is The Time" - Billy Joel (#32) "Caught Up In The Rapture" - Anita Baker (#37) "Without Your Love" - Toto (#38) "Jimmy Lee" - Aretha Franklin (#40) Biggest Mover: "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" - Starship (#35 to #26) Biggest Dropper: "Shake You Down" - Gregory Abbott (#26 to #39) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "The Rainbow Connection" - Kermit the Frog (Jim Henson) "So Far Away" - Dire Straits Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Where's The Party" - Madonna (NR) Hour #2: "Walking Down Your Street" - The Bangles (#71) Hour #3: "The Lady In Red" - Chris DeBurgh (#79) Hour #4: "The Finer Things" - Steve Winwood (#63) Of note: Once again, for no reason, Premiere decides to change the optional extras for a "B" show as "Where's The Party" replaces Sweet Sensation's "Hooked On You" from the 2012 airing. Last week was more forgivable due to James Ingram's death but unless I've been hiding under a rock, I'm pretty sure Madonna is very much still alive.

"True Blue," where the track originally appeared, was sliding back down the Billboard 200 that week, and "You Can Dance," the remix album on which it also appeared, was still a few months away. dL

Well, we all know by now what this weekend's shows are going to be. At least this time I get to use just one post to preview. "AT40: The '70s" this week presents 3/2/1974 which last aired in 2008. Three songs debuted this week: "Bennie And The Jets" - Elton John (#32) "Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo" - Rick Derringer (#36) "Hooked On A Feeling" - Blue Swede (#38) Three songs fell off this week: "Living For The City" - Stevie Wonder (#33) "Baby Come Close" - Smokey Robinson (#34) "Never Never Gonna Give You Up" - Barry White (#39) Biggest Mover: "My Sweet Lady" - Cliff DeYoung (#31 to #22) Biggest Dropper: "Smoking In The Boys Room" - Brownsville Station (#26 to #40) Original extras: None Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia)" - MFSB & The Three Degrees (#65; highest debut) Hour #2: "Candle In The Wind" - Elton John (NR) Hour #3: "My Mistake (Was To Love You)" - Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye (#78) "AT40: The '80s" this week is from 3/1/1986 which aired back in 2015. Here is an edited repost: Five songs debuted this week: "Goodbye Is Forever" - Arcadia (#36) "Needles And Pins" - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers with Stevie Nicks (#37) "No Easy Way Out" - Robert Tepper (#38) "Tender Love" - Force MDs (#39) "Calling America" - Electric Light Orchestra (#40) Five songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Spies Like Us" - Paul McCartney (#30) "Talk To Me" - Stevie Nicks (#31) "Say You, Say Me" - Lionel Richie (#32) "Go Home" - Stevie Wonder (#36) "Walk Of Life" - Dire Straits (#37) Biggest Mover: "Rock Me Amadeus" - Falco (#40 to #29) Biggest Dropper: "The Sun Always Shines On T.V." - A-Ha (#20 to #32) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "Memory" - Barry Manilow "Empty Garden" - Elton John Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "So Far Away" - Dire Straits (#66; highest debut) Hour #2: "West End Girls" - Pet Shop Boys (#71; debuted) Hour #3: "That Was Then, This Is Now" - The Monkees (NR) Hour #4: "Addicted To Love" - Robert Palmer (#46) Of note: Yet again, Premiere switches up the op extras of a previously done '80s show (makes me really glad Premiere is doing one of both '70s and '80s this weekend. Whew.) and for the second time in three weeks, it's due to a recent death. Thursday, we lost Peter Tork of the Monkees (the very day I turned 39, mind you) so Premiere decided to replace Synch's "Where Are You Now" with the Monkees extra mentioned.

A friend who monitors Facebook noticed this morning on the several AT40-related groups he follows, that Matt Wilson, the former staffer for Casey and Shadoe whom, for example, first read the letter that led to the first-ever Long Distance Dedication, passed away Friday, March 8th. He was 61. The friend also saw a post on one of those groups saying that Matt's passing will be acknowledged by announcer Larry Morgan on this coming weekend's shows.
G_d bless you, Matt.

Before I continue with my preview, I want to join the rest of the AT40 community in extending my condolences to Matt Wilson's family. Now, the "A" show for the '80s this week is from 3/14/1981 which aired way back in 2008! Five songs debuted this week: "I Can't Stand It" - Eric Clapton (#29) "Just Between You And Me" - April Wine (#36) "Her Town Too" - James Taylor & J.D. Souther (#38; Hot 100 Debut) "Don't Stop The Music" - Yarbrough & Peoples (#39) "Ain't Even Done With The Night" - John Cougar Mellencamp (#40) Five songs fell off the chart: "(Ghost) Riders In The Sky" - The Outlaws (#31) "Hey Nineteen" - Steely Dan (#35) "(Just Like) Starting Over" - John Lennon (#38) "Every Woman In The World" - Air Supply (#39) "Back In Black" - AC/DC (#40) Biggest Mover: "Just The Two Of Us" - Grover Washington Jr. & Bill Withers (#34 to #27) Biggest Dropper: "Same Old Lang Syne" - Dan Fogelberg (#14 to #32) Original extras: "Breathe" - Pink Floyd Long Distance Dedications: "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer" - Kenny Rogers & Kim Carnes "Cupid/I've Loved You For A Long Time" - The Spinners Archive extras: "(Oh) Pretty Woman" - Roy Orbison "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" - Manfred Mann "Baby Love" - The Supremes Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Sweetheart" - Franke & The Knockouts (#64) Hour #2: "Wasn't That A Party" - The Rovers (#59) Hour #3: "Sukiyaki" - A Taste Of Honey (#73) Hour #4: "Being With You" - Smokey Robinson (#41) The "B" show is from 3/16/1985 which already aired twice. Here's my edited repost from 2013: Three songs debuted this week: "Crazy For You" - Madonna (#32) "All She Wants To Do Is Dance" - Don Henley (#38) "Radioactive" - The Firm (#40) Three songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Jungle Love" - The Time (#30) "The Borderlines" - Jeffrey Osborne (#38) "The Boys Of Summer" - Don Henley (#39) Biggest Mover: "One More Night" - Phil Collins (#14 to #5) Biggest Dropper: "Method Of Modern Love" - Daryl Hall & John Oates (#20 to #37) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "Help Is On Its' Way" - The Little River Band "Colour My World" - Chicago Premiere optional extras Hour #1: "We Are The World" - USA For Africa (NR) Hour #2: "That Was Yesterday" - Foreigner (#47; highest debut) Hour #3: "Don't Come Around Here No More" - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (#64; debuted) Hour #4: "Some Like It Hot" - The Power Station (#57; debuted) For some reason, Premiere decided to substitute Patti LaBelle's "New Attitude" and Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" (the Hour #1 and Hour #2 op extras from both 2013 and 2016 airings) with "We Are The World" and "That Was Yesterday" even though unless I'm mistaken neither group had anybody die recently. To be honest, I'm surprised Premiere is even going with "We Are The World" despite Michael Jackson's involvement with said song. At least they're not like "The Simpsons".....
