Well, we all know by now what shows are planned for this weekend (and I will be using singular posts for the weekend preview the rest of 2020) Now if we could only find out about the President this quickly. "AT40: The '70s" this week presents 11/2/1974 which has aired twice. Here is my repost from 2012: On a footnote, this is a week that made pop music history as Dionne Warwick(e) and the Spinners' duet "Then Came You" fell from #1 to #15. A week earlier, Dionne and the Spinners replaced Billy Preston's "Nothing From Nothing" which also fell from #1 to #15 (and Billy's song is spending it's final week in the Top 40 at #39). Six songs made their debuts this week: "Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy)" - Al Green (#33) "Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues)" - Three Dog Night (#35) "Angie Baby" - Helen Reddy (#36) "Cat's In The Cradle" - Harry Chapin (#37) "After The Goldrush" - Prelude (#38) "You Got The Love" - Rufus & Chaka Khan (#40) Six songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "I Honestly Love You" - Olivia Newton-John (#19) "Give It To The People" - Righteous Brothers (#20) "Skin Tight" - Ohio Players (#23) "You Little Trustmaker" - The Tymes (#25) "Beach Baby" - First Class (#28) "Never My Love" - Blue Swede (#33) Biggest Mover: "I Can Help" - Billy Swan (#36 to #25) Biggest Dropper: "Nothing From Nothing" - Billy Preston (#15 to #39) Original extras: None Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "You're The First, The Last, My Everything" - Barry White (#60; highest debut) Hour #2: "Kung Fu Fighting" - Carl Douglas (#55) Hour #3: "Laughter In The Rain" - Neil Sedaka (#65) And the '80s this weekend presents 11/8/1986. Here is an edited repost from 2014: Three songs debuted this week: "Wild Wild Life" - Talking Heads (#38) "You Know I Love You ... Don't You" - Howard Jones (#39) "Shake You Down" - Gregory Abbott (#40) Three songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Heaven In Your Eyes" - Loverboy (#33) "Stuck With You" - Huey Lewis & The News (#34) "Friends And Lovers" - Gloria Loring & Carl Anderson (#35) Biggest Mover: "Walk Like An Egyptian" - The Bangles (#36 to #25) Biggest Dropper: "Heartbeat" - Don Johnson (#14 to #28) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "Life In One Day" - Howard Jones "Imagine" - John Lennon Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Daydream Believer" - The Monkees (#79) Hour #2: "Stay The Night" - Benjamin Orr (#86; debuted) Hour #3: "Coming Around Again" - Carly Simon (#78) Hour #4: "Your Love" - The Outfield (NR) Of note: We have our tribute to the Outfield (R.I.P. Tony Lewis) as Premiere replaces Janet Jackson's "Control" with "Your Love" (I don't know why they didn't replace "Daydream Believer" instead. Whatever).

I'm guessing since there's some stations that don't play the 1st hour but they still could've replaced Daydream Believer & moved one of the others to the 1st hour extra.

I decided to post this due to the 11-2-74 show gonna be played this weekend:
From Top 40 Weekly US Chart Archive site:
The Erratic Charts Of Late 1974
In the June 9, 1973, issue of Billboard, a front page story discussed some major changes in chart methodology. This led to some unusual chart moves but it’s generally minor in comparison to what was seen in the final few months of 1974. As of this writing, we have yet to uncover an actual Billboard article on the topic, but Casey Kasem did make mention of it in some late 1974 episodes of “American Top 40” so it is obvious the chart metrics were again being revised.
Clearly something was up and chart parameters that had been in play from the inception of the Hot 100 were no longer a given. As an example, consider the fact that songs falling from #1 would always land somewhere within the Top 10 the following week. Since the beginning of The Hot 100 back in August, 1958, this was always the case except for one occurrence – Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound Of Silence” which did fall from #1 to #12 the following week. This happened on the chart dated 1-29-66. Now, without warning or fanfare, this predictable movement was suddenly out the window. In the pre-Download era of the charts when singles were physical 45rpm discs or later cassette singles (roughly 1958-1990), only 9 items fell from #1 to land outside the Top 10 the following week – and 7 of those occurrences happened late in 1974. For quick reference, here’s the scorecard:
9-28-74 – #1 to #12 – Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe 10-5-74 – #1 to #12 – Rock Me Gently 10-26-74 – #1 to #15 – Nothing From Nothing 11-2-74 – #1 to #15 – Then Came You 11-9-74 – #1 to #12 – You Haven’t Done Nothin’ 11-16-74 – #1 to #12 – You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet / Free Wheelin’ 11-23-74 – #1 to #12 – Whatever Gets You Thru The Night
As an aside, the 9th occurrence happened on the 1-31-76 chart when “Theme From “Mahogany” (Do You Know Where You’re Going To)” by Diana Ross fell from #1 to #11.
Other odd facts about these #1 hits From 1974:
In the “traditional” era of the charts (1958-1990), “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe” spent the least amount of time within the Top 10 of any single that reached #1 – 4 total weeks. That chart run was as follows: #9 to #6 to #5 to #1 to #12.
After “Nothing From Nothing” and “Then Came You” landed at #15, both of them fell to #39 the following week.
“You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” / “Free Wheelin’” had an extremely erratic run after hitting #1. Beginning with the 11-16-74 chart, the 3 week rollercoaster was as follows: #12 to #34 to #8. That alone is like no other run for a #1 single in the traditional historical period.
Erratic moves weren’t limited to #1 hits. During late 1974, the following records were also quite unusual:
“Sweet Home Alabama” – Beginning on 10-5-74, the run is as follows: #9 to #19 to #15 to #8 stayed at #8 to #44.
“One Hell Of A Woman” Peaked at #11 on 7-13-74. On the 8-17-74 chart it fell out of the Top 40, landing at #49. Three weeks later, on 9-7-74, it re-entered the Top 40 at #36. It fell to #38 the following week and then exited the Top 40 for good the following week.
Entering, leaving, and re-entering the Top 40 isn’t unheard of, but it is unusual for a single to fall this far, only to make the Top 40 for a second run. For reference, see also “Ecstasy” by the Ohio Players and “Why Me” by Kris Kristofferson (both 1973) and “Ariel” by Dean Friedman and “Way Down” by Elvis Presley (both 1977). Of these four, two are certainly outliers that defy normal chart runs in the extreme, and there were extenuating circumstances involved. “Why Me” was an unusual single to be a hit as it attracted a large audience of non-traditional singles buyers and “Way Down” had just exited the Top 40 immediately before the death of Elvis Presley. His untimely passing led to a flurry of sales since it was his current single thus dragging it back up the chart.
While the changing of chart mechanics in 1974 does certainly account for some of the movement volatility during this era, a lesser known factor may have also been in play. Due to ever-rising costs and severe shortages of oil, the manufacture of vinyl and styrene was impacted. After a long stretch of record manufacturers holding the line on wholesale pricing, they reached a point where volume sales couldn’t make up the ever-increasing costs. As a result, wholesale prices went up approximately $.30 per single. This impacted jukebox operators and retail buyers alike, and both groups were just getting used to that transformation. At the retail level, this meant an msrp of $1.29, leading many retailers to charge over $1.00 per disc retail for the first time ever. Suddenly, small record stores and chain stores alike could no longer sell 45rpm singles for the customary $.79 or so which had been a typical price point for decades. The new price ranged from $1.00 to $1.09, with the higher price being the norm.

Why Premiere - knowing the full significance of the 12/13/1980 AT40 - didn't think much of it to make it the "A" show (and they can't use the "We just used 1980 a month ago" excuse because they also did 1986 a month ago as well) is beyond me. I can only hope the scheduled optional extras for the 1980 show will be the same as the 2017 airing so we won't have to worry about getting that show. In the meantime, here's this weekend's shows "AT40: The '70s" this week presents 11/19/1977 which has aired twice. Here is my repost from 2016. Five songs debuted this week: "Sentimental Lady" - Bob Welch (#32) "You Can't Turn Me Off" - High Inergy (#34) "She's Not There" - Santana (#37) "Baby Come Back" - Player (#38) "The Way I Feel Tonight" - The Bay City Rollers (#40) Five songs fell off this week: "Keep It Comin' Love" - K.C. & The Sunshine Band (#27) "She Did It" - Eric Carmen (#28) "The King Is Gone" - Ronnie McDowell (#33) "Thunder In My Heart" - Leo Sayer (#38) "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" - Peter Frampton (#39) Biggest Mover: "Back In Love Again" - L.T.D. (#35 to #24) Biggest Dropper: "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band" - Meco (#15 to #35) Original extras: "Someday We'll Be Together" - Diana Ross & The Supremes "My Little Town" - Simon & Garfunkel Both songs will be included in the broadcast Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Emotion" - Samantha Sang (#86; debuted) Hour #2: "Turn To Stone" - Electric Light Orchestra (#81; highest debut) Hour #3: "Money, Money, Money" - ABBA (#56) "AT40: The '80s" this week presents 11/21/1987 which has aired three times. Here is my repost from 2011: Two songs debuted this week: "Animal" - Def Leppard (#36) "Need You Tonight" - INXS (#38) Two songs fell off the Top 40 this week: "Sugar Free" - Wa Wa Nee (#35) "Lost In Emotion" - Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam (#36) Biggest Mover: "Got My Mind Set On You" - George Harrison (#38 to #26) Biggest Dropper: "Don't Make Me Wait For Love" - Kenny G (#20 to #37) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "Daniel" - Elton John "Somewhere Out There" - Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram Premiere optional extras: "Power Of Love" - Laura Branigan (#45) "Don't Shed A Tear" - Paul Carrack (#61) "I Want To Be Your Man" - Roger (#66) "I Found Someone" - Cher (#79; debuted)

I forget what were the 2017 extras did they play one version of the Lennon song & play the other as an extra & did they play the posthumous #1's question in the show or as an extra?

I forget what were the 2017 extras did they play one version of the Lennon song & play the other as an extra & did they play the posthumous #1's question in the show or as an extra? Here's what I have for 2017: "AT40: The '80s" this week presents 12/13/1980 which previously aired in 2007 (and this is the John Lennon episode, in which Casey had to update the show after it had been completed to reference Lennon's recent shooting death) Two songs debuted this week: "Hey Nineteen" - Steely Dan (#35) "Together" - Tierra (#38) Two songs fell off this week: "Lovely One" - The Jacksons (#35) "Let Me Be Your Angel" - Stacy Lattisaw (#37) Biggest Mover: "The Tide Is High" - Blondie (#32 to #20) Biggest Dropper (tie): "Dreamin'" - Cliff Richard (#10 to #33) "The Wanderer" - Donna Summer (#13 to #36) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "To Sir With Love" - Lulu "Look What You've Done To Me" - Boz Scaggs Archive extras: "It's My Party" - Lesley Gore "Sukiyaki" - Kyu Sakamoto "Easier Said Than Done" - Essex Note: "Sukiyaki" will be played as an optional extra while "It's My Party" and "Easier Said Than Done" will remain in the broadcast. Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Miss Sun" - Boz Scaggs (#64) Hour #2: "Sukiyaki" - Kyu Sakamoto (original AT40 Archive) Hour #3: "You Shook Me All Night Long" - AC/DC (#80) Hour #4: "A Little In Love" - Cliff Richard (#88; debuted)

I know it would be silly but it would be different if they played the original show & play the re-edited John Lennon song as the last extra & describe what happened & that it's the 40th anniversary of his death.

WMMX 107.7 The Mix Dayton played the show the morning at 6AM Eastern. Talk about commercial overload it started about 6:05 Eastern & ended around 10:40 Eastern & every break had a lot of the same ads some about Illinois on an Ohio station it must be an iHeart thing.

This weekend I'm back to doing a two-part post for obvious reasons. "AT40: The '70s" this week is from 12/9/1978. Now to preview this weekend's '80s show and a special Bonus offering (which IMO will be hard to locate due to some affiliates airing non-stop Christmas music but I digress) The regular '80s show is from 12/13/1986. Here is my repost from 2011: Three songs debuted this week: "Open Your Heart" - Madonna (#38) "Falling In Love (Uh-Oh)" - Miami Sound Machine (#39) "Change Of Heart" - Cyndi Lauper (#40) Three songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "The Rain" - Oran "Juice" Jones (#29) "Freedom Overspill" - Steve Winwood (#32) "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" - Robert Palmer (#36) Biggest Mover: "Victory" - Kool & The Gang (#28 to #21) Biggest Dropper: "Take Me Home Tonight" - Eddie Money (#18 to #29) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "Your Song" - Elton John "I Will Survive" - Gloria Gaynor "You Give Love A Bad Name" - Bon Jovi (#6 this week) Premiere optional extras: "Brand New Lover" - Dead or Alive (#77) "Livin' On A Prayer" - Bon Jovi (#83; debuted) "Big Time" - Peter Gabriel (#66) "Will You Still Love Me?" - Chicago (#53) Now for this weekend's Bonus offering. With this week marking the 40th anniversary of John Lennon's assassination, Premiere has offered the 12/13/1980 show as a Bonus show and similar to when Premiere aired the 8/4/1984 show as a Bonus offering following Prince's death, the optional extras will be all John Lennon songs. First, here is a partial repost from 2017: Two songs debuted this week: "Hey Nineteen" - Steely Dan (#35) "Together" - Tierra (#38) Two songs fell off this week: "Lovely One" - The Jacksons (#35) "Let Me Be Your Angel" - Stacy Lattisaw (#37) Biggest Mover: "The Tide Is High" - Blondie (#32 to #20) Biggest Dropper (tie): "Dreamin'" - Cliff Richard (#10 to #33) "The Wanderer" - Donna Summer (#13 to #36) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "To Sir With Love" - Lulu "Look What You've Done To Me" - Boz Scaggs Archive extras: "It's My Party" - Lesley Gore "Sukiyaki" - Kyu Sakamoto "Easier Said Than Done" - Essex BTW "Sukiyaki", which was an op extra during the 2017 airing, will not be played this time. Now for the Lennon-related op extras: Hour #1: "Instant Karma (We All Shine On)" Hour #2: "Imagine" Hour #3: "Woman" Hour #4: "Nobody Told Me" If you know of an AT40 affiliate that will actually air the 1980 special, please post it on this thread.

If it's treated as a B show KZOY plays it Saturday at 1PM Eastern although it starts 5-10 minutes late & if you just want to hear the Lennon extras don't bother as they don't play extras. The other is KABQ Sunday at 2PM Eastern & they do play extras. Other guesses might be WPNC Saturday at 10AM Eastern & replay at 12AM Eastern Tuesday with extras & while WTOJ is playing Christmas they are playing the regular shows on WATN Sunday at 9PM Eastern because they play 4 hour 70's shows & they air before it. WPNC also plays the 4 hour 70's shows right after the 80's shows & replay them Wednesday at 12AM Eastern.

The tribute is part of the countdown when "(Just Like) Starting Over" was at #4 that week But are they playing the original 12-13-80 show or the re-recorded show with the tribute (which would make more sense). I think last time it was the original.

I think last time it was the original. The 12-13-80 show might include mentions of the 40th anniversary of his death beginning of each hour and at the optional extras... I believe the original mention of his death will stay intact b4 playing his hit song

I think the $1,000,000 question is who will play it. One should've played it tonight on the actual anniversary.
