Noticed Monday that Mark Elliott, whom while better known for his association with the Disney Studio as a voiceover announcer and occasional character voice, also subbed for Casey on seven occasions between the 70s and 80s, passed away Saturday (4/3/21) in Los Angeles. He was 81.
Do you believe (as I do) that the chances of Premiere digging up any of those shows as a tribute, especially since none of them were in April, are rather slim?

That might actually be April 13, 1985 (a week we don't get from Premiere since it was guest hosted.) Just as this week we got April 15, 1972 from Premiere and April 8, 1972 from Sirius XM.

Again I ask, do you want to take over previewing the AT40 shows instead of me? And can we please get to what's coming up this weekend without looking ahead to the following weekend? No sense asking him anything, he never responds and just keeps on doing what he does.

5/01/82: The Roxy Music extra (famously remade by 10,000 Maniacs in 1997) is instrumental for over a minute at the end. I wonder how much of it got cut back in '08.

Now for the second half of this weekend's preview. As you are all aware, former AT40 fill-in host Mark Elliott died a few weeks ago. This weekend, Premiere is offering bonus shows for both '70s and '80s with Elliott subbing for Casey. While I appreciate Premiere doing this, my only concern is what Classic AT40 affiliates will want to bother airing either show.
The '70s bonus show will be from 5/13/1978.
Three songs debuted this week: "Because The Night" - Patti Smith Group (#37) "Heartless" - Heart (#39) "Baker Street" - Gerry Rafferty (#40)
Three songs fell off this week: "The Goodbye Girl" - David Gates (#29) "More Than A Woman" - Tavares (#32) "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" - Andy Gibb (#35)
Biggest Mover: "Take A Chance On Me" - ABBA (#30 to #24) Biggest Dropper: "Jack And Jill" - Raydio (#11 to #23)
Original extras: None
Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Wonderful Tonight" - Eric Clapton (#82; debuted) Hour #2: "Last Dance" - Donna Summer (#85; debuted) Hour #3: "Still The Same" - Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band (#73; debuted)
The '80s offering will be from 7/17/1982
Seven songs debuted this week: "Take It Away" - Paul McCartney (#31) "Vacation" - The Go-Go's (#32) "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)" - Donna Summer (#36) "Kids In America" - Kim Wilde (#37) "I Found Somebody" - Glenn Frey (#38) "Nice Girls" - Eye To Eye (#39) "Love Plus One" - Haircut 100 (#40)

BTW regarding "Theme From Shaft". Look for WTOJ to include the song in the program when they play the "supersized" version of 5/14/1977 Sunday at 9AM Eastern.

Here is an edited repost from 2015: Four songs debuted this week: "I Wanna Be A Cowboy" - Boys Don't Cry (#33) "Rain On The Scarecrow" - John Cougar Mellencamp (#37; also an LDD this week) "Vienna Calling" - Falco (#38) "Who's Johnny" - El DeBarge (#40) Four songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "I Think It's Love" - Jermaine Jackson (#29) "Feel It Again" - Honeymoon Suite (#34) "Tender Love" - Force MDs (#38) "I Do What I Do" - John Taylor (#39) Biggest Mover: "A Different Corner" - George Michael (#37 to #26) Biggest Dropper: "What You Need" - INXS (#26 to #39) Original extras: "Money" - Pink Floyd Long Distance Dedications: "Rain On The Scarecrow" - John Cougar Mellencamp (at #37 this week) "Everything I Own" - Bread Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "One Hit (To The Body)" - The Rolling Stones (#71; highest debut) Hour #2: "Your Wildest Dreams" - The Moody Blues (#49) Hour #3: "Danger Zone" - Kenny Loggins (#60) Hour #4: "Sledgehammer" - Peter Gabriel (#76) Of note: Premiere has replaced Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" (which was an op extra because he had recently died) with "One Hit (To The Body)" as the Hour #1 extra. I'll preview the two '70s shows next.

All right, this weekend there are TWO '70s shows and TWO '80s shows so once again, my weekend preview will be a two-parter. I'll start with the two '70s shows first. The "A" show this week is from 5/26/1973 which has already aired twice. Here is my repost from 2015: Four songs debuted this week: "Long Train Running" - The Doobie Brothers (#30) "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)" - George Harrison (#34) "Give It To Me" - The J. Geils Band (#39) "Close Your Eyes" - Edward Bear (#40) Four songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "The Twelfth Of Never" - Donny Osmond (#21) "Sing" - The Carpenters (#24) "Walk On The Wild Side" - Lou Reed (#32) "Masterpiece" - The Temptations (#40) Biggest Mover (tie): "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby" - Barry White (#20 to #12) "Playground In My Mind" - Clint Holmes (#22 to #14) Biggest Dropper: "Out Of The Question" - Gilbert O'Sullivan (#17 to #36) Original extras: None Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "The First Cut Is The Deepest" - Keith Hampshire (#70) Hour #2: "Kodachrome" - Paul Simon (#57) Hour #3: "Smoke On The Water" - Deep Purple (#85; debuted) The "B" show for this week is from 5/22/1976 which also has aired twice. Here is an edited repost from 2010: AT40: The '70s is from 5/22/1976. A show Premiere ran back in 2007. Five songs debuted this week: "I.O.U." - Jimmy Dean (#35) "Rock And Roll Love Letter" - Bay City Rollers (#37) "I'll Be Good To You" - The Brothers Johnson (#38) "It's Over" - Boz Scaggs (#39) "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again" - Eric Carmen (#40) Five songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Sweet Love" - The Commodores (#24) "Don't Pull Your Love/Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" - Glen Campbell (#27) "Anytime (I'll Be There)" - Paul Anka (#33) "Fallen Angel" - Frankie Valli (#36) "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" - Abba (#39) Biggest Mover: "Shop Around" - Captain & Tennille (#31 to #17) Biggest Dropper: "Come On Over" - Olivia Newton-John (#23 to #36) Original extras: None Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Take The Money And Run" - Steve Miller Band (#56) Hour #2: "Mamma Mia" - Abba (#83; debuted) Hour #3: "Saturday Night" - The Bay City Rollers (NR) Of note: Premiere has replaced The Manhattans' "Kiss And Say Goodbye" with the Bay City Rollers' "Saturday Night" due to the recent death of one of its' members (Les McKeown) despite the fact that the Rollers are already represented on this week's chart at #37 ("Rock And Roll Love Letter"). This is the second time this year Premiere uses a 1976 "B" show for a recently deceased artist (the Supremes' Mary Wilson). My '80s preview is coming up.
