How did Larry handle it back then? dL Larry Morgan, wasn't the voice guy for AT40 in 1987.
When I hear him I always think of Larry Morgan the Pro Stock drag racer. [snippy]
I've seen one of the cue sheets from another time, don't remember the date, that warned the PDs that because of the licensing contract, they can't remove songs from the show.

Of note: Premiere has replaced Genesis' "Paperlate" (the Hour #4 op extra in recent airings) with "Hold Me" It's not a lingering Christine McVie interest, it's the fact that this particular song was a week away from débuting on the Hot 100 in the 40 at #33. Premiere loves those songs. dL |

Last night I listened to WSMG broadcast of 6/23/1979. They covered the 4 hour show in 3 hours and 39 minutes. The show itself was 3 hours and 20 minutes. They really cut out the commercials. Just 19 minutes of station ids and ads.
Casey mentioned that on july 4th they will do a disco show covering the 5 years of Disco that started with Rock the Boat by Hues Corporation. That was #12 in the A show from 1974.
and the archives 108th #1 song was the Night Chicago died, which was #1 in the 1974 A show.
They played "Feel Like Makin' Love" - Roberta Flack (original Archive extra) the 107th #1 of the decade just before #25 instead of after #23. The cue sheet leaves it out for that hour.
In 1977, 1978 and 1979 3 women, Linda Ronstadt, Olivia and Donna Summer were the only women to have 2 songs in the top 5 at the same time. What about men or groups, other than the Beatles, and since then?
Randy Van Warmer. He does not look like I envisioned him. I was thinking like a Leo Sayer, but he looks like Judge Reinhold. He looked younger than I thought. Born in 1955 he was 24 when the song came out, but died at 48 in 2004.

I'm stuck in my own personal Groundhog Day. My local station plays Rick Dees & Casey Kasem back-to-back. For the last six weeks in a row (and counting), the programmer at the station doesn't realize that they broke the coding on the Rick Dees show... so it's now played the Rick Dees Mother's Day Show from 1986 each consecutive week. I don't know what's more sad, that nobody there is listening to the show to realize that it needs fixed or that no listener has reported/complained enough to the station to fix it. (I posted a couple times about it on their FB page, but no response).
No problems, though, on the coding for Casey as we've gotten the correct show each week. But obviously that's also 1986 this week.
While surfing internet radio, I did happen to find a station playing the correct Rick Dees show this week. And while listening to it, you guessed it, this week is 1986 too 😄
One difference at the top though, Radio & Records had "Live To Tell" spending a 2nd week at #1 this week (while it only spent one week at #1 on Billboard).

What about 6/30/1979? KDRI play that this past Sunday at Noon EDT. But they eliminated the "And Now" and the end credits and the extras.

Funny thing was I contacted Toby James Petty (where I get the cue sheet info from) and when I asked if there were other July 4th specials planned, it was not mentioned (not saying your info is wrong. Maybe WTOJ or WPNC will air it too). Yeah I confirmed that the officially sanctioned bonus show is the May 1971 Acts of Rock Era special. The Movies special will air on some stations but isn't the "official" one.

I'm listening to WPNC. I didn't listen to the top 100 of 1979 as I already had that. When listening to the Beatles Years from 10/2/1976 they didn't play any extras or Premiere intro or ending.
Now they are on the top 40 acts of the rock & roll era 5/1/1971. They started with "And Now" and dead air and Casey introducing the show. This one played the extras.

Yeah. Premiere apparently never produced the Beatles Years special like they have some others in this marathon. As for the Top 40 Acts special, these were Premiere's optional extras (for future reference): Hour #1: "Mr. Sandman" - The Chordettes Hour #2: "California Dreamin'" - The Mamas & The Papas Hour #3: "Leavin' On A Jet Plane" - Peter, Paul & Mary Premiere played "Mr. Sandman" recognizing it as the first #1 song of the Rock era. |

Shows like the Beatles Years special from 1976 are not and have never been officially played by Premiere. WPNC may have had a copy that is suitable for airing, and Premiere may have allowed that, but Larry Morgan didn't record any intros/outros and Premiere didn't choose any optional extras. |

What a wonderful trip in the wayback machine! I hadn't heard that broadcast in 23 years. The 2000s decade for American Top 40 was fractured with Casey only on air to 2003 and Ryan Seacrest taking over in 2004. There is no way Premiere could syndicate any of that. I do wish something could be worked out with the rights holders of Casey's Top 40 so it could be packaged with premiere's AT 40 shows from 1998 and 1999 and syndicated. I would love to hear the 90s shows again instead of relying on SiriusXM's 90s countdown. |

Listening to the top 40 movie songs on WPNC. At the beginning of the 3rd hour they jumped to #9. then played to #3 then went back and played #13 - 10.
This is from April 1978 so preGrease.
Casey gave a synopsis of the movies' plots. I had no idea what they were about. Giorgie girl sounded complicated. The only movie I've seen from all of these is Star Wars.
For the Disco countdown, they started at #36
Then at 9pm they replayed the top 40 acts of the rock era 1971 that they did on Monday.
They played the same thing Friday afternoon and they still played at the beginning of the 3rd hour they jumped to #9. then played to #3 then went back and played #13 - 10 then #2
