Whoa, what??? Fact check Casey time. How did he make this blunder? In the 1983 show, when introducing #33 Lady Love Me by George Benson. Casey said that four years ago George was baptized as a Christian Scientist. That is incorrect. The Los Angeles Times from 1989 said "“I’ve been a dedicated Jehovah’s Witness for 10 years,” he says, “and I studied the Bible long before that. I think I’ve changed my ways a little from my wild young days. I’m very careful in what I do; I’m no saint, but I do try to keep away from anything that will bring reproach on me. Religion has helped me escape some pitfalls--helped me, I like to think, become a better man.”"
Prince said the same thing after he studied the Bible with Larry Graham.
"Coincidentally, Benson worked on his 1996 album That's Right at Prince's Paisley Park Studios. Benson regrets that he and Prince didn't collaborate – referring to the Minnesotan as his "spiritual brother", both being Jehovah's Witnesses. "I was always looking forward to doing something like that, but he was not an easy guy to communicate with on that level, because he very seldom spoke at all to people that he wasn't comfortable with," Benson chuckles. "He didn't know me well, but he knew of my career and he had a lot of respect for what I do. As a matter of fact, he came down to the studio when I was recording to hear what we were doing. Of note: I received the cue sheet before Jimmy Buffett's sudden death last week. All Larry Morgan needs to do is change the intro and outro to reflect his passing. RIP. :( Casey did the intro for Fins with a story about Glenn Frey and Jimmy Buffett. No mention of Jimmy Buffett's death.
It was still updated though. But it was interesting they went with Casey instead of Larry Morgan but then again they did that for Olivia Newton-John last year for one. ETA: Oh and they did one for Tony Bennett even though he never had an official AT40 hit. |

In the original show, that "Whatever happened to" segment including a short clip of "Deep Purple" aired between #38 & #37 but, for whatever reason—it lasted all of 1:44—the cue sheet made no mention of it. Along with that extended (now 4:34) extra which sounded every bit as if Casey originally did it that way, the entire show was remastered with stereo jingles and so forth, no doubt at the hand of Ken Martin.

Oddly, when this episode aired yesterday on KMCH, Larry Morgan's usual introduction to Hour 1—"And now, Premiere Networks proudly present ..."—didn't happen. After the top-of-the-hour station ID, the AT40 theme music launched the program. Normally, I'd suspect the local station was to blame for something like that. However, since it seems the show's opening segment should include everything from Larry Morgan's intro up to the first commercial break, it should be rather difficult to 'forget' Larry Morgan's intro. Thus, I tend to think it must have been Premiere's doing. So, did anyone else out there hear the "A" show and notice if Hour 1 began without Larry Morgan's intro? |

KZOY played the 80s B show on Saturday from 1-5 but I didn't catch that until late in the top 10.
I was expecting WFMX to play it this morning at 5 am but they played the A 1982.
Then I looked to WLKN to play it at 3pm but they played Ryan Seacrest.
WFRO is playing the B show 1983 right now.
It's interesting that someone did an updated version of We Didn't Start the Fire.
Same music but the words were updated to the last 35 years.

In the 1977 show when he introduced Lucy in the sky with Diamonds, he said From 64-70 dozens of other artists would cover the new Beatles songs the moment they were released. And not one cover record made the chart. And over the years hundreds of remakes were recorded by other artists and only 6 of those made the Top 40.
What is the difference between the cover records and the remakes?

In the 1980 show before playing "Another one Bites the Dust" Casey mentioned that the song was an inspiration for the Detroit Lions as they won their first 4 games that year. I remember that. Billy Sims was their #1 draft pick Running Back and got played alot. Everytime I hear that that song I think of the Detroit Lions and no where else but in this show have I heard the reference since then. They need to adopt that again considering that they are doing well this year.
Then in the 1986 show Casey mentioned the Detroit Tigers in the 1968 World Series with Jose Feliciano's rendering of the National Anthem. Two mentions of a city's teams in the same week.
In the 10/25/1986 show Casey answered the question of Gap between #1s. He said it was Strangers in the Night Scooby dooby doo. That was funny because he was in Scooby Do.

the Casey Christmas special airing on holiday-switched affiliates this weekend (according to Pete Battistini on the AT40 forum (which I sadly still can't register on)) is the AT10 special "Christmas at the Movies", which originally aired in 2005.

... "AT40: The '70s" this week presents 10/16/1976. Here is an edited repost: Of note: Premiere has replaced David Dundas' "Jeans On" which was the Hour #2 op extra back in 2016 with the "Liberty Valance" song. Premiere is being random once again. Thanks for all that but, once again, it turned out this wasn't random at all. A "Whatever Happened To Gene Pitney" segment (including only a brief clip of that song) originally aired in Hour 2 of the 10/16/1976 show, between #s 24 & 23. However, as we've seen before, there was no mention of it on the original Watermark cue sheets. When Premiere aired the show in 2016, the segment remained unchanged. This time, Premiere pulled it out, remixed Casey's original comments, extended the song, and turned it into an optional extra with Larry Morgan adding information about Pitney and his 2006 death. |

WWIS gets done with the LDD after #28 and then break and then goes into 11/17/1973 at that point with Gilbert O'Sullivan.
They said "There was an issue receiving the files, some may have transferred incorrectly. I have been communicating with the our provider on the issues"
It was so odd. Casey was telling the story of the guy tripping on his cereal. I heard that last night. Quite a coincidence. No, it was last night's 70s show again.
