These two need to be italicized, not bolded (aren't italics for songs that were heard in a previous countdown - in this case 2/2/1974?).

First, I must thank those of you who regularly post the lineups & show facts. Now, a couple questions: 1. On the later AT40 original cue sheets (e.g. March 11, 1978), each song's listing includes an "(A)" and/or a "(B)"; what do those mean? 2. In this week's show from March 30, 1974, many of Casey's monologues were accompanied by unrelated, instrumental background music. Was this music in the original broadcast or, was it added by Premiere for these rebroadcasts? Again, thanks for all your efforts here. Sincerely, Rich

1. On the later AT40 original cue sheets (e.g. March 11, 1978), each song's listing includes an "(A)" and/or a "(B)"; what do those mean? They refer to the writers of the songs, more specifically the agency that the songwriter belongs to. A more detailed explanation can be found on Page 12, a few posts down (right after the cue sheet posting for March 3, 1984).

Anyone else seeing "Garyn" everywhere the letters "l-a-d-y" should be appearing on this board? Also, "Fett" where "j-a-c-k-s-o-n" should be. "Garyn" and "Fett" in other places, too.

I'd recommend it in a time capsule-esque sample of this era of AT40.
- #39 "Pop Goes the Movies" is a medley of eight movie themes. After it played, Casey named 'em all...but he did this so fast that I couldn't keep up with him. :( Anyone able to catch the full list?
- #32 originally barely scraped the Hot 100 at #97 back in October 1977. As indicated above, it had quite the reversal of fortune four-and-a-half years later! Scott Shannon from WRBQ in Tampa placed it in their playlist and got quite a favorable response - and the rest is history.
- Story behind "Love Me Do" as an Extra: Before signing their longer-term contract with Capitol, The Beatles had a handful of contracts with other record labels that had durations of just a few song recordings. The other labels? MGM, Tollie, Vee-Jay, Swan, and United Artists (which in reality was their label for their A Hard Day's Night film). After they initially hit it big, the other labels re-released those recordings - "Love Me Do" was a #1 hit for the Tollie label. Add those to the Capitol contract, and you have six record labels having charting records from the Fab Four. 1968 saw the formation of Apple - and by extension, a seventh record label to ever have a charting Beatles record.
- #1 on the Album chart: Beauty and the Beat by The Go-Gos
- #1 on the Country chart: "Bobbie Sue"
- #1 on the Soul chart: "That Girl" (its 7th week there!)

Here were the themes for "Pop! Goes The Movies" in order: 20th Century Fox theme Tara's Theme from "Gone With The Wind" Theme From "The Magnificent Seven" James Bond theme Theme from "Goldfinger" The Good, The Bad and the Ugly Theme from "The Apartment" The High and The Mighty
Interesting story about Scott Shannon. These days he is heard on WPLJ in New York City and nationally on True Oldies Channel affiliates everywhere.

I'm now using the underline for a different code of my own. I'm in the process of compiling a list of songs that we will not get to hear at their peak positions due to their peak show being guest hosted. For those songs, the underline would only be applied if the show in question is the show on which the song is the highest we'll ever hear it at.
So far, I'm getting close to the end of 1985, and I've retroactively edited my show post for the October 19 show, a few pages back. There aren't any on last night's 4/3/82 show that qualify.

For those songs, the underline would only be applied if the show in question is the show on which the song is the highest we'll ever hear it at. Going forward, at least, I wonder if you and others might consider including a decoding key (a.k.a. legend) with each Top 40 list. When I initially found this board and the list I was looking for through a search engine, I could only guess what was meant by the various formatting (e.g. bold, italics, colors). I looked for a FAQ but couldn't find one. Eventually, I was able to figure out some of it but, the meaning of the italics and now, the underline, could be especially difficult to decipher without either a key or prior knowledge. ;) Plus, it appears different people use their own formats and/or they have changed over time. Regardless, it's just a suggestion. I'm grateful for the volume of data here; now, it's just a matter of being able to understand all of it. MANY THANKS TO ALL for the info and effort, Rich

Bold - denoting the week's peaking songs - will mean the same thing no matter who posts though. I'll post a key for shows I post the next time I post a show - which won't be this week, since I'll be out of town. Actually it probably won't be the week after either, due to a banquet.

I used Italics for the song's second play on the songs' chart run and underline for the songs 3rd play during the songs chart run

Here are this weekend's shows
AT40: The '70s features 4/8/1972
This program is special right at the very beginning of the show when Casey Kasem tells the story of drug dealer Manny Rosen before playing James Brown's "King Heroin" at #40 (it's second week at #40 and last week on the 40).
Five songs debuted that week: "Doctor My Eyes" - Jackson Browne (#24) "Baby Blue" - Badfinger (#26) "Jump Into The Fire" - Nilsson (#32) "Look What You've Done For Me" - Al Green (#33) "Help Me Make It Through The Night" - Gladys Knight & The Pips (#38)
Five songs also fell off this week: "Runnin' Away" - Sly & The Family Stone (#28) "Hurting Each Other" - The Carpenters (#33) "Glory Bound" - The Grass Roots (#34) "Could It Be Forever" - David Cassidy (#37) "No One To Depend On" - Santana (#38)
Original extras: "All Shook Up" - Elvis Presley This song will be played by Premiere as one of the optional extras.
Premiere optional extras Hour #1: "I'll Take You There" - The Staple Singers (#63; highest debut) Hour #2: "The Candy Man" - Sammy David Jr. (#53) Hour #3: "All Shook Up" - Elvis Presley (original AT40 extra)
AT40: The '80s this week features 4/14/1984
Five songs debuted this week: "Breakdance" - Irene Cara (#31) "Oh Sherrie" - Steve Perry (#36) "Let's Hear It For The Boy" - Deniece Williams (#38) "Dancing In The Sheets" - Shalamar (#39) "Borderline" - Madonna (#40)
Five songs also fell off this week: "Thriller" - Michael Jackson (#23) "Give It Up" - KC (#26) "Runner" - Manfred Mann's Earth Band (#30) "Red Red Wine" - UB40 (#34) "Back Where You Belong" - .38 Special (#36)
Original extras: None
Long Distance Dedications: "Every Breath You Take" - The Police "You Are So Beautiful" - Joe Cocker
Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Runaway" - Bon Jovi (#42) Hour #2: "Sister Christian" - Night Ranger (#41) Hour #3: "It's My Life" - Talk Talk (#46) Hour #4: "Self-Control" - Laura Branigan (#63; debuted)
One final note: If you remember the 3/28/1987 show that Premiere ran two weeks ago, Casey Kasem told the story about the town of Henrietta, OK which forbid dancing to tie in with "Footloose" being played as an extra. Wouldn't you know it but it turns out that same story is being told on this week's show too.

(1)Droppers: Hysteria I Get Weak Father Figure (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay NOTES: - Reminder: Underlined songs in my posted shows are songs we will not get to hear at their peak position. They only get the underline if they're at the highest position we'll ever hear them at.
- Early posting this week! (Sorry jdelachjr. ;)) This week's show comes courtesy of WIDL and not WCRZ.
- This week's show has a pretty obscure feeling to it overall despite coming from 1988, as you can pretty much count the number of songs that still get much airplay today on one hand (maybe two, depending on your area).
- They gave the standard jingle bearing to "Piano in the Dark" despite the song being rather downtempo.
- BLAH @ Premiere for cutting the second verse out of "Man in the Mirror". And I don't quite get why they shorten their own Extras, either.
- Countdown rival Rick Dees has been accused of "giving away" the #1 song on his shows by playing #2 before a commercial rather than #2 and #1. But if you ask me, Casey often would be no better, as evidenced by this week's show, in which the show started with a listed recap of the previous week's Top 3, and then after Billy Ocean, he basically spoiled the result by saying that the #1 song was by a woman.
- Speaking of Billy Ocean, he was out of the #1 spot on both the Hot 100 and on the Black Singles chart this week. Ouch.
- Casey plugged his TV counterpart, America's Top 10 in closing.
- #1 on the Country chart: "I'll Always Come Back" by K.T. Oslin
- #1 on the Album chart: Soundtrack to Dirty Dancing
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Prove Your Love"
- #1 on the Black Singles chart: "Da'Butt" by E.U.

I think Casey did those mentions during the end of his first AT40 stint because at that point it had already been known in the industry that Casey would be leaving for Westwood One and ABC/Watermark had no interest in matching WW1's offer thus allowing Casey to leave.
After the 8/6/1988 edition of AT40, it would be at least five months before Casey Kasem would do another countdown show on the radio so I guess the AT10 mention was to let fans know he would still be doing the TV show in the interim.
