- AT40 certainly went to the movies this week - Casey stated that this week featured more movie songs than ever before in their roughly 10 years of surveying. Check out the chart listing to find out what's currently playing in American Top Forty Theaters everywhere, From Coast to Coast. ;)
- As an aside, this will obviously be the only week where I identify the song with the movie in the chart.
- Interesting that Casey pointed out Natalie Cole's then-consistency on the charts, when he was noting her first Top 40 hit...in seven years, just two weeks ago. This was also the last week in the 40 for her current hit.
- #1 on the Country chart: "Do You Wanna Go to Heaven" by T.G. Sheppard
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Funkin' For Jamaica" by Tom Browne
- #1 on the Album chart: The Game by Queen

- Yesterday morning had a rather inauspicious beginning - WIDL was competely unreachable in my room, forcing me to resort to streaming. :(
- "Paranoimia", of all songs, received the softer jingle...while "Love Walks In" received the standard jingle.
- "In Your Eyes" had a very weird edit played.
- The second LDD was confusing at first since Aunt Eva identified the song as "Get Me a Ticket on An Airplane".
- This week's show had quite a few slower songs in it, and most of the songs in general had a deeper, fuller sound to them - a stark contrast to the light, dance-y pop from the previous '86 show.
- This week's show also seemed to go by very fast the first time through - though that may have been due to my lack of sleep overnight.
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Word Up"
- #1 on the Album chart: Top Gun soundtrack
- #1 on the Country chart: "Both to Each Other" by Juice Newton & Eddie Rabbitt (which, incidentally, is the country version of "Friends and Lovers")

I will add: - LDD after #26: The Atlanta Rhythm Section "Do it Or Die" from a woman in New Jersey who heard a previous LDD letter requesting the song, to the writer of the previous LDD, for providing a life-changing inspiration through that LDD
- LDD after #7: Elton John "Chloe" from Mark in California to his big brother Hank for always being there for him
- A pretty aggressive chart this week - LOTS of songs jumping over other songs. Hell, Prince ("Purple Rain", moving 28-18) jumped over a whole group to become Biggest Mover!
- This marks the FIFTH 1984 show that "What's Love Got to Do With It?" has been heard on this year.
- Casey read the #1s on Billboard's other charts rather early this week - after #9 (barely into the final hour)!
- Casey answered a question asking about the biggest American acts in UK chart history - and pointed out that the top group, the Everly Brothers, were making a comeback, as they had a single on the Hot 100 at #50 and rising that week. (Too bad that that song, "On the Wings of a Nightingale", peaked that week.)
- #1 on the Country chart: "Uncle Pen" by Ricky Skaggs
- #1 on the Soul chart: "I Just Called to Say I Love You"
- #1 on the Album chart: Purple Rain by Prince
Why so late? Well, my fraternity hosted a conference this weekend, so I wasn't able to catch even a lick of this show until Sunday, which will also be true for next weekend (just not for the same reason ).

Here are this weekend's AT40 shows
AT40: The '70s this week features 11/2/1974:
On a footnote, this is a week that made pop music history as Dionne Warwick(e) and the Spinners' duet "Then Came You" fell from #1 to #15. A week earlier, Dionne and the Spinners replaced Billy Preston's "Nothing From Nothing" which also fell from #1 to #15 (and Billy's song is spending it's final week in the Top 40 at #39).
Six songs made their debuts this week: "Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy)" - Al Green (#33) "Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues)" - Three Dog Night (#35) "Angie Baby" - Helen Reddy (#36) "Cat's In The Cradle" - Harry Chapin (#37) "After The Goldrush" - Prelude (#38) "You Got The Love" - Rufus & Chaka Khan (#40)
Six songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "I Honestly Love You" - Olivia Newton-John (#19) "Give It To The People" - Righteous Brothers (#20) "Skin Tight" - Ohio Players (#23) "You Little Trustmaker" - The Tymes (#25) "Beach Baby" - First Class (#28) "Never My Love" - Blue Swede (#33)
Original extras: None
Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "You're The First, The Last, My Everything" - Barry White (#60; highest debut) Hour #2: "Kung Fu Fighting" - Carl Douglas (#55) Hour #3: "Laughter In The Rain" - Neil Sedaka (#65)
BTW next week's AT40: The '70s is a special show. The featured countdown will be 11/3/1979 but since that was a four-hour show, Premiere will only be playing the final three hours from that program (it starts at #32). It may not be perfect, but at least Premiere is doing a 1979 countdown.
AT40: The '80s this week features 10/31/1981
Four songs debuted this week: "Young Turks" - Rod Stewart (#30) "Let's Groove" - Earth, Wind & Fire (#36) "Promises In The Dark" - Pat Benatar (#38) "My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)" - Chilliwack (#40)
Four songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "I Could Never Miss You (More Than I Do)" - Lulu (#32) "Queen Of Hearts" - Juice Newton (#34) "The Voice" - The Moody Blues (#36) "The Beach Boys Medley" - The Beach Boys (#39)
Original extras: None
Long Distance Dedications: "Just Remember I Love You" - Firefall "Getting Better" - The Beatles
Archive extras: "Dizzy" - Tommy Roe "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" - 5th Dimension "Get Back" - The Beatles All three songs are included.
Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Harden My Heart" - Quarterflash (#49) Hour #2: "Trouble" - Lindsey Buckingham (#55) Hour #3: "No Reply At All" - Genesis (#41) Hour #4: "Don't Stop Believin" - Journey (#56; highest debut)

That was one of the first albums (Muppet Movie Soundtrack) I had as a kid.

A little more on WINC later on.
- Casey first announced "Sausalito Summernight" as moving up three, then moving up two. So which is it?
- No announced biggest mover or dropper this week. This is becoming the prevailing trend as of late...
- With both a Beatles Archive and a LDD, it's no wonder that 1981 was the year of the Beatles music revival.
- Casey predicted that "Endless Love" could become the #1 hit of 1981, and he did announce it as such when the song was a LDD on the 6-25-88 show. BUT...when it came time for the Top 100 of 1981 (which we could end up hearing at least in part in a couple months), it was not to be. What song did get the honors, you ask? Go back to the May 30 show for a BIG hint. ;)
- This week's show airing is kind of interesting for my station of choice. Last year, I was in Washington D.C. on the weekend that the October 24 show aired. Saturday night I was in my hotel room for the night, so I decided to try to find the show on the radio...and as luck would have it, I found it - on what I later deduced to be WINC. I did end up falling asleep for about half of it, missing #24-#6, but I did catch #1, so I've also heard "Arthur's Theme" for all three of its weeks on top.
- #1 on the Country chart: "Never Been So Loved" by Charlie Pride
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Never Too Much" by Luther Vandross
- #1 on the Album chart: Tattoo You by The Rolling Stones

BTW next week's AT40: The '70s is a special show. The featured countdown will be 11/3/1979 but since that was a four-hour show, Premiere will only be playing the final three hours from that program (it starts at #32). It may not be perfect, but at least Premiere is doing a 1979 countdown. Great! Just last week, I was wondering how hard it might be to edit down to 3 hours any of the "lost" 4-hour shows by taking out the LDDs, Extras, and such; I suppose any voice-over teasers (e.g. "coming up, an AT40 Extra from the only group who ...") could be difficult or impossible to remove, and Premiere wouldn't want to leave them in and hope no one cared that Casey "forgot" to play a song he promised. :o Although I always look forward to hearing the singles that never made it into the Top 30—the stuff we rarely if ever hear on these Oldies stations—I'll gladly take the Top 32 if the alternative is nothing at all. Bring 'em on, Premiere, and thank you! BTW, how do you find out what's going to air in the future? Thanks again for the song listings, everyone. Rich

Rich I think they have aired a 4-hour 70s show in the past that was edited down to 3 hours. The only problem is that each song was less than 2 minutes long. That was 3 years ago.

As mentioned previously, AT40: The '70s this week presents 11/3/1979.
Because Premiere usually airs AT40: The '70s at three hours and 11/3/1979 was a four-hour show, Premiere will only air Hours #2-4 of this program

Archive extras: "I Write The Songs" - Barry Manilow "Theme From 'Mahogany' (Do You Know Where You're Going To)" - Diana Ross "Love Rollercoaster" - Ohio Players The Diana Ross song stays in the show, the Ohio Players song is an optional extra and the Barry Manilow song, heard in Hour #1, has been cut.
Premiere optional extras: "Better Love Next Time" - Dr. Hook "Lonesome Loser" - Little River Band (#34; peaked at #6; 14th and Final week in Top 40) "Love Rollercoaster" - Ohio Players

- Hmmm...lots of sizable upward moves and not many falling songs this week.
- Casey noted the previous week's Hot 100 debut of "So Emotional" at #47. He also outroed "Is This Love" as moving up eleven notches to debut in the Top 40.
- "Lost in Emotion" received the standard jingle this week despite receiving the softer one back on September 19 and despite other songs receiving it this week.
- Prior to #8, Casey featured a look at the tops of other Billboard charts - but this was a little bit different, as instead he read off the Top 5 of the album chart: #5 - A Momentary Lapse of Reason by Pink Floyd, #4 - Whitesnake, #3 - The Dirty Dancing movie soundtrack, #2 - Bad by Michael Jackson, and moving into #1...well...that'll be revealed in a moment. ;)
- Speaking of Bad, that could describe MJ's week, with both the album and song losing #1 spots, although Casey pointed out that the song did move into #1 on the Dance chart.
- #1 on the Album chart: Tunnel of Love by Bruce Springsteen
- #1 on the Country chart: "Am I Blue" by George Strait
- #1 on the Black Singles chart: "Lovin' You" by The O' Jays
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Bad"
- The closing credits ran rather long this week, such that by the time Casey and Premiere were done, there wasn't much of the closing theme left. By comparison, there was upwards of a full minute left after credits on September 19.

Cartman, you didn't mention the peak of "Dream Police" which was #26.
"If You Remember Me" should also be bolded since it was at its' peak position.

Here are this weekend's upcoming AT40 shows:
AT40: The '70s this week is from 11/12/1977:
This week saw only three songs debuting: "(Every Time I Turn Around) Back In Love Again" - L.T.D. (#35) "Here You Come Again" - Dolly Parton (#37) "Swingtown" - Steve Miller Band (#40)
Three songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Swayin' To The Music (Slow Dancin')" - Johnny Rivers (#27) "Surfin' U.S.A." - Leif Garrett (#31) "Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes" - Jimmy Buffett (#37)
Of note, when Sirius/XM played the 11/5/77 show last weekend, Casey Kasem noted that Andy Gibb's #1 song "I Just Want To Be Your Everything" fell out of the Top 40 after a 23-week run but Gibb's older brothers, the Bee Gees, would have lengthy runs in the Top 40 with "How Deep Is Your Love", "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever" coming out of the "Saturday Night Fever" album. In fact, from 2/11/78 through 4/1/78, those three songs were in the Top 40 at the same time including two weeks in the Top 10 (2/25 and 3/4). At least one Bee Gees song from "Saturday Night Fever" was in the Top 40 for 35 consecutive weeks (36 including the year-ending frozen chart). Also, Paul Davis' "I Go Crazy" was in the early weeks of its' 25-week run in the Top 40. And Debby Boone's "You Light Up My Life", the #1 song for this week (10 weeks overall), was in the Top 40 for 21 consecutive weeks. OK, enough rambling....
Original extras: "Mr. Bojangles" - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band "Wasted Days And Wasted Nights" - Freddy Fender The Freddy Fender song is an optional extra while "Mr. Bojangles" stays in the broadcast.
Premiere optional extras: "Just The Way You Are" - Billy Joel (#89; debuted) "Wasted Days And Wasted Nights" - Freddy Fender (original AT40 extra) "We Are The Champions" - Queen (#51)
This weekend's edition of "AT40: The '80s" is from 11/12/1983:
Seven songs debuted in the Top 40 this week: "Ain't Nobody" - Rufus with Chaka Khan (#29) "In A Big Country" - Big Country (#30) "Major Tom (Coming Home)" - Peter Schilling (#32) "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes" - Asia (#35) "Souls" - Rick Springfield (#36) "Twist Of Fate" - Olivia Newton-John (#38) "My Town" - Michael Stanley Band (#39)
Seven songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "This Time" - Bryan Adams (#25) "Tell Her About It" - Billy Joel (#27) "Foolin'" - Def Leppard (#28) "Can't Shake Loose" - Agnetha Faltskog (#29) "Dr. Hekyll and Mr. Jive" - Men at Work (#33) "Automatic Man" - Michael Sembello (#34) "She's Sexy + 17" - The Stray Cats (#38)
Original extras: None
Long Distance Dedications: "All My Life" - Kenny Rogers "(You're) Havin' My Baby" - Paul Anka
Premiere optional extras: "Talking In Your Sleep" - The Romantics (#61) "Holiday" - Madonna (#68) "Send Me An Angel" - Real Life (#95; debuted) "Let The Music Play" - Shannon (#91; debuted)

Extras are from Canadian station CKRU.
- OK, so...we've had plenty of weeks where the biggest drop within the countdown was something like 14, 16, or more spots, yet there's no mention of "biggest drop" status by Casey. And yet, this week's biggest drop is only 10 spots...and it's the first thing he mentioned in the song intro. Go figure!
- Gee...I seem to remember "Telefone" trying to break into the Top 10 only three weeks ago. ;)
- Second LDD writer Randy, whose dedication was postmarked September 10 and whose wife's pregnancy was due November 10, was thankfully alive and well at showtime. :)
- So, I used to think there was consistency with when Casey would reveal the #1s on Billboard's other charts. I figured, usually leading right into the #1 song. After weeks of various reveals throughout the Top 10, with this week's leading into #6, I'm fairly convinced that that wasn't the case.
- Double Whammy: "Islands in the Stream" fell to #2 on both the country chart and the Hot 100 this week.
- #1 on the Country chart: "Somebody's Gonna Love You" by Lee Greenwood
- #1 on the Soul chart: "All Night Long (All Night)"
- #1 on the Album chart: Synchronicity by The Police
