From the stories I've read on the AT40 Proboard, and another one of my own, this week's show can certainly be filed among the "How difficult should this be, really?" pages. First, there's Casey's and Larry Morgan's own screw-ups, already documented. Then... - On WUEZ, during the "Last Week's Top 3" recap, "Physical" suddenly cut to #34 "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic". Then, after that, the show went to #35!
- WTIC is instead airing 1/19/80.
- WNYR and WRVF are instead airing last week's Part Two of the Top 100 of 1985.
- CKRU has their normal timeslot pre-empted this weekend due to a hockey game.
- WMJJ was on the ball until halfway through the show, when they suddenly jumped on the NYR-RVF 1985 bandwagon.
- And now, only minutes ago, following the show's normal first hour, WCFR aired all four Premiere extras, one after the other, in sequence.
I was going to take the week off from show posting anyway, since I've been downstate at a meeting for most of this weekend, but this weekend's AT40: The 80s shenanigans are just too good to ignore! I was fortunate enough to listen to WINC last night which led me to documenting this week's show. I missed one more Casey screw-up though. mkarns on the AT40 board mentioned Casey saying Paul Davis was at #16 (he was at #14 moving up from #16 last week).

Haha...I missed that too; that aired within the past hour (#10 "The Sweetest Thing" is on now). Turns out this is also the week where WIOG (then on 106.3) signed in as an AT40 affiliate back in the day; WIOG, having been on 102.5 since September 1986, is my present-day CHR.

Casey must have been feeling the effects of his vacation back then as he closed the show by saying the chart date as January 16th, 1981 (he also would say January 23rd, 1981 the following week) He also referred to the LDD, Just Once, as a hit "from earlier this year."

Michael, to answer "Just Once", the song did chart only a few months prior so it was more easier for Casey to make such a mistake. Now if the song charted in the beginning of 1981...
On to this weekend's shows:
AT40: The '70s this week features 1/18/1975:
Five songs debuted this week: "Nightingale" - Carole King (#36) "Lonely People" - America (#37) "Your Bulldog Drinks Champagne" - Jim Stafford (#38) "Lady" - Styx (#39) "My Eyes Adored You" - Frankie Valli (#40)
Five songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy)" - Al Green (#23) "You Got The Love" - Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan (#25) "When Will I See You Again" - Three Degrees (#28) "I Feel A Song (In My Heart)" - Gladys Knight & The Pips (#39) "I Can Help" - Billy Swan (#40)
Original extras: None
Premiere optional extras: "Lovin' You" - Minnie Riperton (#80; debuted) "Lady Marmalade" - LaBelle (#84) "Big Yellow Taxi (Live Version)" - Joni Mitchell (#51)
AT40: The '80s this week features 1/18/1986:
Only two songs debuted this week: "Sara" - Starship (#39) "Silent Running" - Mike & The Mechanics (#40)
Two songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Emergency" - Kool & The Gang (#24) "Object Of My Desire" - Starpoint (#32)
Original extras: None
Long Distance Dedications: "Through The Years" - Kenny Rogers "I'm Alive" - Electric Light Orchestra
Premiere optional extras (all four songs debuted on the Hot 100 this week): "King For A Day" - Thompson Twins (#52; highest debut) "What You Need" - INXS (#96) "This Could Be The Night" - Loverboy (#87) "These Dreams" - Heart (#54)

Yeah, they've done February 1986 shows the past two years, but I had to miss both of those due to conferences (and it wasn't until 9-19-87, a few months ago, that I was able to really utilize streaming). This left me with nothing between 12-7-85 and 4-19-86, until now.
- No softer jingles this week, not even for "Broken Wings".
- There were quite a few detailed stories about people not in the countdown this week: A "Whatever Happened to...?" on Dodie Stevens leading into #37, the story of the Russian dancer who starred in White Nights who defected from the Soviet Union and who can't return there for fear of being arrested leading into the movie's song at #19, the story of the first recording to sell one million copies (in 1918!) leading into #3. And then, of course, there's the week's LDDs.
- Casey erred in the intro to "Living in America", saying it was climbing four notches to #36. He also shortchanged Sade a little, saying they moved up five notches when they really moved up six. Oops! ;)
- #1 on the Album chart: Miami Vice soundtrack
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Say You, Say Me"
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Go Home"
- #1 on the Country chart: "Bop" by Dan Seals

I was beginning to wonder if the info was posted - Proboards was showing richr, not you, as the most recent poster in here. Odd... (though I've seen this happen on the AT40 Proboard as well) January 26, 1980 LW #3: Rupert Holmes "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" LW #2: Captain & Tennille "Do That to Me One More Time" LW #1: Michael Jackson "Rock With You"40 -- Electric Light Orchestra - Last Train to London (39) 39 -- John Stewart - Lost Her in the Sun (34) 38 -- The Commodores - Wonderland (25) 37 -- The Spinners - Working My Way Back to You/Forgive Me, Girl (2) 36 36 Santana - You Know That I Love You (35) 35 -- Donna Summer - On the Radio (3) 34 40 Rufus with Chaka Khan - Do You Love What You Feel (30) AT40 Archives: From February 1977 - The Eagles "New Kid in Town", the 190th #1 of the 70s33 37 Cheap Trick - Voices (32) 32 10 The Little River Band - Cool Change (10)31 39 Neil Diamond - September Morn (17) LDD: Orleans "Still the One" from Marian to Brentley, Carl, and Ross - her three friends who she had many great times with30 30 Herb Alpert - Rotation (30)29 33 The O' Jays - Forever Mine (28) 28 14 Jefferson Starship - Jane (14) 27 32 Styx - Why Me? I started with streaming at 7 AM, climbed back into bed a half hour later...and suffice it to say, missed most of the rest. So then I tried another station at 1 PM...and campus Internet caused me problems fifty minutes later (during "New Kid in Town"), including not being able to re-connect to the stream. Well...third time's the charm!
- Seems they don't play Premiere's extras either...hence, they're absent from this posting.
- This show had sort of a different vibe from other 80s shows - I've heard bits and pieces of 70s shows over the past year or so (including the full 8-27-77 show), and just from the way Casey's speaking style was here...it's like the 70s weren't quite over yet.
- Shows from the early years (I'm talking up through at least the first couple months of 1983) were notorious for not being very far into the Top 40 by the time the first hour was up, but I do think this is the lowest position that any second hour has ever started ever since the 1-15-83 show was aired back in 2009 (that show also started Hour 2 at #33).
- What's this? Two songs in red this week? Yup! Casey gave recognition of a tie for the week's Biggest Mover, which he doesn't usually do.
- Yes, only two Archives songs listed. Why? Well for some reason, the third, "Rich Girl", was edited out. Why's that? That's what I'd like to know!
- The #1s on Billboard's Other Charts were given leading into this week's #1 song. What's so remarkable about that? Well, if you were to ask me the last aired show where that was the case, my answer would be...I honestly have no idea! Actually, giving the "Disco" #1 is itself a bit noteworthy.
- #1 on the Disco chart: "Vertigo/Relight My Fire/Free Ride" (medley) by Dan Hartman
- #1 on the Country chart: "I'll Be Coming Back For More" by T.G. Sheppard
- #1 on the Album chart: The Wall by Pink Floyd
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Rock With You"

Libra (nice new name),
For some reason as I was about to post all the info for Friday, I had some malfunction. I thought I lost the info but it was posted but I was not recognized as being the last poster before your post. Strange.
As for the extras: Too Hot: described as "two weeks away from entering the countdown" 99: described as "two weeks away from breaking into the Top 40" Another Brick In The Wall: described as "a song that would eventually become one of the biggest songs of the decade" Refugee: debuted at #63 and would eventually peak at #15.

Interesting that both countdowns have The Spinners with a song that would or did peak at #2. Also the Eagles have Top 10 hits in both countdowns. Is 7 the most songs to debut at one time?

Looking through Hot 100 archives, the most I've seen is 8 debuts. This happens twice - on 4/24/82 and 8/1/81; neither show has yet been aired by Premiere.

Actually, the record for the most debuts occured on October 11th, 1975. Nine songs made their debut in the 40 that week. The show was guest-hosted by Wink Martindale.

3: YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE DANCING - LEO SAYER (2) Actually, Casey mentioned that was "last week's #1 bestseller." Don Kirshner who died earlier this week. I wasn't aware of that, thanks for mentioning it. Don Kirshner's Rock Concert was the best! Many of the shows I recorded on cassette tapes are stashed away somewhere. Someday, they'll turn up and I'll be happy or disappointed, depending on their condition. :) Thanks again for posting the countdown lists.

Is 7 the most songs to debut at one time? If AT40 had continued to use Billboard, the most number of debuts would have been 17 on 12/5/98.

Need to point out Casey made a small error in his "Say It Isn't So" story. He said the Cincinnati Reds won the seventh and deciding game of the 1919 World Series. That World Series was a best-of-nine that year and the Reds won the eighth game to clinch the World Series marred by the infamous Black Sox scandal.

If you own a copy of Pete Battistini's "AT40: The '70s" book, "Shame" was indeed listed as played on the 1/27/1979 show. FWIW, "Shame" was originally played between songs #25 and #24.

FWIW, "Shame" was originally played between songs #25 and #24. Well, sure enough, I can hear now that those few, faint notes fading out at the beginning of the "Shame" segment are from the end of "Don't Cry Out Loud." I've added that info to my datasheet for this show and ordered that book by Pete Battistini. Thanks very much!

A question letter to Casey about parent-child duos in the Top 40 interestingly enough came from a mother and daughter. Casey mentioned "Baby, Come To Me" was used in "General Hospital". Last week we heard another "General Hospital" song in the Top 40 - Christopher Cross' "Think Of Laura". #1 Album: "Business As Usual" - Men At Work #1 Soul: "Outstanding" - The Gap Band #1 Country: "Inside/Carolina Dreams" - Ronnie Milsap

Double posting? Yes, but I had this ready to go (see NOTES, below). Note: I only color-code when Casey makes recognition of Biggest Mover/Droppers, not when he doesn't. I was out of state this weekend, and didn't want to miss the show with "Africa" 's sole week at #1, so this was one of my only listening options available. (I'm posting this at a McDonald's, still an hour or so from getting back home.)
- This was one of those shows where the music was mixed up just right, where the order of songs for the week made the show that much better. Every now and then, such a show will come along, and there's no way I can remember them all, but at least one other example from last month would be the 1/18/86 show.
- Extra "Come on Eileen" seemed shorter somehow, like it was missing a verse.
- I thought they never shortened the #1 song...but as the new #1 song, "Africa" was in fact shortened. I assume this was originally done by ABC/Watermark back in the day...bad move, guys! >:(
- #1 on the Album chart: Business as Usual by Men at Work
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Outstanding" by The Gap Band
- #1 on the Country chart: "Inside/Carolina Dreams" (double-sided) by Ronnie Milsap
