HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEK'S AT40: THE 70'S REBROADCAST OF THE JANUARY 28, 1978 AT40 EPISODE THAT I HEARD ON WLS 94.7 FM CHICAGO THIS SUNDAY MORNING:
* DID YOU KNOW: 1) Donna Summer is known as the "Queen of the Discos"? 2) Jay Ferguson worked and lived on farmland in the outskirts of the Los Angeles area? 3) The little voice who said "good bye" twice at the end of Meco's "Theme From Close Encounters" is Kacey Cisik, who sang "You Light Up My Life" in the movie of the same name? 4) Bill "Ain't No Sunshine/Lovely Day" Withers is from Slab Fork, West Virginia? 5) Bob Welch first recorded "Sentimental Lady" in 1972 when he was a member of Fleetwood Mac? 6) Leif Garret owns his respects to Shaun Cassidy (Casey mentioned Shaun was Leif's own Santa Claus)? 7) Samantha Sang's real name is Cheryl Sang? 8) The group Queen dazzle their audiences in concert with a big stage setting plus a giant crown (If only Queen's B-side of "We Are The Champions" called "We Will Rock You" was ever played as an AT40 Optional Extra!), and 9) The Bee Gees were the only group in history to split up then hit #1? * BY THE NUMBERS: 1) There are 11 foreign acts on this AT40 chart, including 3 Australian acts. 2) There are two versions of the "Theme From Close Encounters" in the Top 40, one by Meco and one by John Williams (This would be the last time 2 different versions of the same song would be on an AT40 chart until 1990 when there were 2 different versions of "Unchained Melody" both by the Righteous Brothers - the original 1960's version reissued from inclusion in the movie Ghost, and the newly recorded 1990 version - on the AT40 chart). * QUESTION LETTERS: 1) Regarding the country in third place (behind England and Canada) with the most artists hitting the US chart which was the country of Scotland. 2) Regarding the act to hit the top 40 the most times before hitting the top 10 which was Johnny Cash. * ALSO: 1) Heard on the AT40 chart was Neil Diamond's "Desiree", which 7 months later in 1978 would be the same song for the first ever AT40 Long Distance Dedication. 2) I know one of the AT40 extras "Midnight At The Oasis" was kept intact in the show despite the two others - "You Ain't See Nothing Yet" and "Drift Away" - demoted as Optional Extras not even heard on WLS 94.7 FM much.

With three songs also going up ten, and two more going up nine (one of which was a Top 10 move), this is a pretty crazy chart much like 8-16-80.
- Wonder why this week only had two Archive songs instead of three? Incidentally, though Casey says "January 1964", "I Want to Hold Your Hand" hit #1 on the week ending February 1.
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Fantastic Voyage" by Lakeside
- #1 on the Country chart: "I Feel Like Loving You Again" by T.G. Sheppard

[/li][li]Wonder why this week only had two Archive songs instead of three?[/quote] Maybe with Beatlemania picking up full steam (the Fab Four did have the next three #1 songs that decade), In guess they spaced out the Archive songs a bit so you wouldn't hear the Beatles at the end of two straight hours. The 2/7/1981 show had only two Archive songs as well ("She Loves You" and "Can't Buy Me Love"). Coincidentally, on 2/14 AT40 began abbreviating the Top 3 recaps. Makes one wonder.

Since my birthday is this Sunday, it's also the day I listen to AT40: The 70's on WLS 94.7 FM Chicago although Super Bowl 46's kickoff isn't until that night.

What a surprise for this weekend on Super Bowl 46 weekend (and my birthday weekend) for this week's AT40 chart on the AT40: The 70's show to be the Billboard published chart date on the weekend I was born on Feb. 5, 1971 although at the time AT40 was one week before that published Billboard chart, this would change in May 1971 when after the first AT40 special on the first weekend in May 1971 AT40 was in sync for each week the same week as the Billboard chart for that week. Since my birthday is this Sunday, it's also the day I listen to AT40: The 70's on WLS 94.7 FM Chicago although Super Bowl 46's kickoff isn't until that night. 94.7 gets a station mention in the '88 show this weekend, too (as their "Z95" incarnation). Speaking of which... February 6, 1988 40 -- Yes - Rhythm of Love (40)39 -- Debbie Gibson - Out of the Blue (3) 38 -- Keith Sweat - I Want Her (5) 37 28 George Michael - Faith (1) 36 19 Heart - There's the Girl (12) 35 36 The Cover Girls - Because of You (27) 34 -- Sting - Be Still My Beating Heart (16) 33 35 Squeeze - 853-5937 (32) 32 40 Richard Marx - Endless Summer Nights (2) 31 39 Gladys Knight & The Pips - Love Overboard (13) 30 20 Whitney Houston - So Emotional (1) Flashback Extra: Michael Jackson "Man in the Mirror"29 37 David Lee Roth - Just Like Paradise (6) 28 23 Stryper - Honestly (23) 27 33 Belinda Carlisle - I Get Weak (2) LDD: Klymaxx "I Miss You" from Craig to Natalia, who he met on the last day of a trip to Niagara Falls in the summer of '87, but who is the span of the entire continental U.S. away26 29 Cher - I Found Someone (10) 25 26 Salt-N-Pepa - Push It (19) 24 16 Icehouse - Crazy (14) 23 27 Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine - Can't Stay Away From You (6) 22 09 Elton John - Candle in the Wind (6) 21 22 Men Without Hats - Pop Goes the World (20) Flashback Extra: John Cougar Mellencamp "Check it Out"20 25 M/A/R/R/S - Pump Up the Volume (13) 19 30 George Michael - Father Figure (1)18 07 George Harrison - Got My Mind Set on You (1) 17 10 Taylor Dayne - Tell it to My Heart (7) 16 24 Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up (1) AT40 Extra: Harry Chapin "Cat's in the Cradle"15 21 Patrick Swayze featuring Wendy Fraser - She's Like the Wind (3) 14 18 Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere (14) 13 17 Natalie Cole - I Live For Your Love (13)12 04 Michael Jackson - The Way You Make Me Feel (1) 11 15 Paul Carrack - Don't Shed a Tear (9) Flashback Extra: R.E.M. "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)"10 11 Prince - I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man (10) 09 14 Bruce Springsteen - Tunnel of Love (9)08 13 Foreigner - Say You Will (6) 07 12 The Pet Shop Boys & Dusty Springfield - What Have I Done to Deserve This? (2) 06 08 Eric Carmen - Hungry Eyes (4) 05 06 Roger - I Want to Be Your Man (3) LDD: Elton John "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" from Suzanne in Oklahome to Mike in Santa Barbara, CA, who recently forgave her after her destructive ways while she had been an alcoholic; he moved miles away from her after an alcohol-fueled car wreck in June 198704 05 Expose - Seasons Change (1) 03 01 INXS - Need You Tonight (1) Flashback Extra: George Harrison "When We Was Fab", which debuted at #63 that week02 03 The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter (2) 01 02 Tiffany - Could've Been (1)NOTES: - I think "There's the Girl" had a single version played this week, there were a couple extra lines sung before the bridge that weren't there on 12-26-87.
- From the "Current Events" files: Larry Morgan gives a nod to Katy Perry matching Michael Jackson's record of five #1s from one album in his intro for "Man in the Mirror". Incidentally, she has an opportunity to break that record on AT40...
- Speaking of "Man in the Mirror", the song was played at its full length for once. :) It was shortened both times it was played last year (though on 4-30 it might have been an original edit).
- Story behind "Cat's in the Cradle" as an Extra: Casey told the story of Harry Chapin's humanitarian efforts, long before the USA For Africa or Band Aid benefits. Harry was killed in a car wreck on July 16, 1981, on the way to another benefit concert. The Harry Chapin Memorial Fund was established to continue the efforts he'd started, and Casey mentioned a memorial concert that had been performed a couple of months before this show. "Cat's in the Cradle" was selected to play, his #1 from 1974.
- That 1984-1987 theme bumper that played during the Top 50 of 1983? Well, it played again after the second LDD. And, a different one from that package played after #3.
- #1 on the Black Singles chart: "I Want Her"
- #1 on the Dance chart: You Can Dance (LP cuts) by Madonna
- #1 on the Country chart: "Wheels" by Restless Heart
- #1 on the Album chart: Faith by George Michael

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEK'S AT40 THE 70'S BROADCAST OF THE FEB. 6, 1971 BILLBOARD CHART USED ON AT40 (Around the day I was born) THAT I HEARD ON WLS 94.7 FM THIS MORNING ON MY 41ST. BIRTHDAY:
BY THE NUMBERS: 5 British acts in the AT40 chart this week. DID YOU KNOW: 1) Rufus Thomas ' "Push 'n Pull" was a new dance at the 1971 time? 2) "Love Story" (tied into Henry Mancini's theme from the movie) was at the 1971 time having the biggest opening gross for a new movie? 3) Ray Price's "For The Good Times" has been on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for about 1/2 a year? 4) The Supremes at the 1971 time had only one original member left? It was Mary Wilson. 5) Led Zepplin had in that 1971 time had taken the Beatles title as the most popular group in England? 6) Elvis Presley's cover version of "I Really Don't Want To Know" was originally done by Tommmy Edwards in 1961? 7) Stephen Stills had been in 4 different top 40 acts? 8) Lynn Anderson was tricked during her first live country music appearance? BLOOPERS: 1) Casey called the singer of "We Gotta Get You a Woman" named Runt as a group when it was just singer Todd Rungren! 2) Casey mentioned the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band had 2 top 40 hits when "Mr. Bojangles" was their first! ALSO: 1) The B-side of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" called "Isn't It a Pity" was played. 2) An original 1971 commercial for an MGM records single by Eydie Gorme called "It Was a Good Time" (from the movie "Ryan's Daughter") was kept intact in the show! 3) Glad 2 AT40 extras - "Memories are Made of This" by Dean Martin (Dean was originally a boxer under the name "Kid Crochet" as Casey noted) and "I Want To Be Around" by Tony Bennett were kept intact in the show although the 2 other AT40 extras - "Sunshine Superman" and "Apple Scruffs" - were demoted to optional extras and WLS 94.7 FM didn't play these optional extras anyway.
Enjoy Super Bowl 46 tonight, AT40 and Casey Kasem fans!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEK'S AT40 THE 70'S BROADCAST OF THE FEB. 6, 1971 BILLBOARD CHART USED ON AT40 (Around the day I was born) THAT I HEARD ON WLS 94.7 FM THIS MORNING ON MY 41ST. BIRTHDAY: BY THE NUMBERS: 5 British acts in the AT40 chart this week. 2) An original 1971 commercial for an MGM records single by Eydie Gorme called "It Was a Good Time" (from the movie "Ryan's Daughter" was kept intact in the show! 3) Glad 2 AT40 extras - "Memories are Made of This" by Dean Martin (Dean was originally a boxer under the name "Kid Crochet" as Casey noted) and "I Want To Be Around" by Tony Bennett were kept intact in the show although the 2 other AT40 extras - "Sunshine Superman" and "Apple Scrubs" - were demoted to optional extras and WLS 94.7 FM didn't play these optional extras anyway. Enjoy Super Bowl 46 tonight, AT40 and Casey Kasem fans! We Gotta Get You A Woman by Todd Rundgren is actually from the album called 'Runt'

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEK'S AT40: THE 70'S EPISODE OF THE FEB. 10, 1979 AT40 CHART THAT I LISTENED TO THIS MORNING ON WLS 94.7 FM CHICAGO:
* This chart was originally 4 hours long but for 1979 shows it starts with the second hour (This week Larry Morgan forgot to mention this AT40 1979 show was 4 hours long and starts with hour #2! But Larry did mention the AT40 Classic 70's show was sponsored by State Farm.). The first song played in hour #2 was "Every Time I Think of You" by the Babys, followed by the week's AT40 highest debut at #29 - "Tragedy" by the Bee Gees (which also entered the Billboard Hot 100 in the same position to make it the highest ever, maybe since 7 and a 1/2 years prior to this chart when "Imagine" by John Lennon entered AT40 and Billboard at #20?). * DID YOU KNOW: 1) "Take Me To The River" by Talking Heads was originally done first by Al Green and later by Syl Johnson? 2) Billy Joel knew that hits are made by radio airplay even when circa 1973-1974 WMMR Philadelphia played one of his concerts in simucast? 3) The Blues Brothers are Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues (That's actually John Belushi and Dan Akyroyd's characters from the 1975-1980 Saturday Night Live years), 4) Nicolette Larson's "Lotta Love" was written by Neil Young? * BY THE NUMBERS: 1) There are 17 songs by groups in the Top 40 chart. 2) Earth Wind and Fire ranked #1 on 4 different Billboard year-end charts. * BLOOPERS: Casey called Cheryl Lynn's song "Got To Be Real" as "Gotta Be Real". * ALSO: 1) Speaking of Cheryl Lynn's song "Got To Be Real", the long disco mix version of it was played. 2) Casey gave a report on Little Richard that he turned from 1950's rock 'n roll to a born again Christian and had a current thing selling bibles door to door at the 1979 time (Even in the teaser a drop piece of Little Richard's "WOP BOP A LO BOP A LOP BAM BOOM" line was heard!). 3) I know the 2 Long Distance Dedications, the 2 AT40 Archive songs from 1972 (AT40: The 70's is due to play sometime in the next few 2012 year weeks a 1972 AT40 episode anytime soon! Maybe next week? Or in 2 weeks? Or in 3 weeks?) , and 3 AT40 extras were kept intact in the AT40 show, but one of the extras - "I Get Around" by the Beach Boys - got demoted as an OPTIONAL EXTRAS but WLS 94.7 FM didn't play any optional extras! 4) Unless there was one heard in the unaired first Feb. 10, 1979 hour, there isn't any QUESTION LETTERS in this AT40 episode. * 2 FINAL THINGS: 1) This AT40 1979 episode was originally 2 weeks prior to when AT40 started to recap the previous week's top 3 songs at the start of the show. 2) I know "Fire" by the Pointer Sisters is on this AT40 chart, but for all you WLS 890 AM Chicago old school fans, I remember when WLS played the Pointer Sisters' "Fire" the line "You turn on the radio" was replaced by "You turn on WLS" (Maybe the Pointer Sisters made custom versions of this song for selected U.S. radio stations mentioning the station, such as WLS Chicago).

^ Bruce Springsteen did something like that in his song "Growin' Up". He recorded a version that mentions WMMR in the lyrics. More from that week in a moment. First, though: February 13, 1982 LW #2: Hall & Oates "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" LW #1: The J. Geils Band "Centerfold"40 -- Quincy Jones featuring James Ingram - One Hundred Ways (14) 39 -- Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'N Roll (1) 38 -- Donnie Iris - Love is Like a Rock (37) 37 -- The Pointer Sisters - Should I Do It (13) 36 -- The Oak Ridge Boys - Bobbie Sue (12) 35 39 ABBA - When All is Said and Done (27) 34 -- Rod Stewart - Tonight I'm Yours (Don't Hurt Me) (20) 33 33 Del Shannon - Sea of Love (33)32 36 Cliff Richard - Daddy's Home (23) 31 -- The Go-Gos - We Got the Beat (2) 30 32 Eddie Schwartz - All Our Tomorrows (28) 29 31 Loverboy - Working For the Weekend (29)28 30 Genesis - Abacab (26) LDD: Ronnie Milsap "I Wouldn't Have Missed it For the World" from Elizabeth to Marlin, who she'd fallen in love with when she was younger, but who she was unable to be with due to the pressures of both her parents and his; both went on to meet other people and marry them, but he was recently killed in a tragic accident, and this is her way of saying that if she could go back and do it all over again...she would.27 17 Earth, Wind, & Fire - Let's Groove (3) 26 28 Bertie Higgins - Key Largo (8) 25 29 The Police - Spirits in the Material World (11) 24 35 Buckner & Garcia - Pac-Man Fever (9) 23 27 Barry Manilow - Somewhere Down the Road (21) 22 26 Stevie Wonder - That Girl (4) 21 25 Alabama - Love in the First Degree (15) 20 22 Rick Springfield - Love is Alright Tonite (20)19 23 Diana Ross - Mirror, Mirror (8) 18 21 Kenny Rogers - Through the Years (13) AT40 Extra: Bachman-Turner Overdrive "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet"17 19 Sheena Easton - You Could Have Been With Me (15) 16 06 Stevie Nicks & Don Henley - Leather and Lace (6) 15 10 The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - Hooked on Classics (10) 14 16 The Little River Band - Take it Easy on Me (10) 13 13 The Rolling Stones - Waiting on a Friend (13)12 14 Dan Fogelberg - Leader of the Band (9) 11 11 Paul Davis - Cool Night (11)10 12 Air Supply - Sweet Dreams (5) 09 03 Foreigner - Waiting For a Girl Like You (2) 08 07 Olivia Newton-John - Physical (1) 07 08 Juice Newton - The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known) (7)LDD: The Supremes "Back in My Arms Again" from Tommy, a Navy man currently stationed in the Philippines, to Donna, who he will be marrying soon. They'd met and fallen in love when they were younger, but were drifted apart, and each went on to marry someone else. Those marriages didn't last, however, and they've since come back together, and Tommy is planning to return to the States in four weeks - upon which, he and Donna plan to tie the knot.06 09 The Cars - Shake it Up (4) 05 05 George Benson - Turn Your Love Around (5)04 15 Journey - Open Arms (2) 03 04 Quarterflash - Harden My Heart (3)02 02 Hall & Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) (1) 01 01 The J. Geils Band - Centerfold (1)NOTES: - Localized edition this week, coming from WCRZ. That of course means no extras in the post other than the one already there.
- Casey noted the 33-notch leap on the Hot 100 for "We Got the Beat" to have the highest debut in the countdown this week.
- "I Wouldn't Have Missed it For the World" marks the third song within a span of a year's time to be featured as a LDD the week it dropped off the 40; it was #40 the week before (aired two years ago).
- Story behind "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" as an Extra: Randy Bachman had difficulty keeping high notes, so he would break them down into short notes by stuttering. One such song that showcased this was their #1 hit "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet".
- Something very unusual this week is the fact that "Someone Could Lose a Heart Tonight" is this week's #1 Country song, while also a dropper from the 40. I haven't heard another show where a #1 song on one of Billboard's other charts that week also dropped from the 40 that same week.
- #1 on the Country chart: "Someone Could Lose a Heart Tonight" by Eddie Rabbitt
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Call Me" by Skyy
- #1 on the Album chart: Freeze-Frame by The J. Geils Band
Lastly...on another matter not related to this week's show: Casey was intro-ing #37 when I read about Whitney Houston's death. Having seen what happened in 2010, the year after Michael Jackson's death, it's suggestive that we might be in for several shows with Whitney at the top. The thing is...two of her songs, we can't hear at the top - "So Emotional" and "Saving All My Love For You", each of their sole weeks on top were shows hosted by Charlie Van Dyke. In addition, just this past year, we heard four of her songs at #1, and "So Emotional" was at #2. And, oh yes - we heard "The Greatest Love of All" in no less than four shows, including at #1. So...given all that, what could Premiere possibly do for an encore if they decide to honor her in this fashion...that they haven't really already done? It seems like a terribly awkward position.

(1)NOTES: - Larry Morgan's opening at the beginning of this show made it seem like we were tuning in to an already-in-progress show. Technically we are, since we're starting with #30, but what I'm getting at is I wonder if they're considering offering the full four hours of late 1978 and 1979 shows to stations?
- Gee, that's an awful lot of tags I had to put in there this week.
- They played the short-lived "Long Distance Dedication" jingle for both LDDs this week.
- I recently heard a Shadoe Stevens-hosted show that featured a Biggest Dropper that wasn't within the first hour of the show - first such show I'd heard. Now, here's the first Casey-hosted show I've heard with such a Biggest Dropper.
- Story behind "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" as an Extra: Diana's opening night, on her own, was known as the "Can Diana Ross Make it On Her Own?" show. That title made official what had been on everyone's mind, and was uncomfortable for Diana - but she's gone on to prove that she could make it on her own. "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" was played as one of her biggest hits (to that point).
- This has to be the latest I've ever heard a non-countdown song in a show. I know that Shadoe Stevens played a special LDD right before #1 on the final original-run AT40 back in 1995, but obviously we won't be hearing that one anytime soon.
- Whaddya know - Eddie Rabbitt's got both country #1s this week!
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Aqua Boogie" by Parliament
- #1 on the Country chart: "Every Which Way But Loose" by Eddie Rabbitt
- #1 on the Disco chart: "I Will Survive/Substitute/Anybody Wanna Party?/I Said Yes" by Gloria Gaynor
- Best-Selling Album: Blondes Have More Fun by Rod Stewart
Not sure I got the credit right for Gloria Gaynor's Disco #1, but upon looking it up, that four-song credit was listed.

With a movie date on Friday (meaning I couldn't listen to "AT40: The '80s" on WWIS), a haircut and having to go to work early on Saturday, I resorted listening to WGHN where the start times were normally 6PM & 10PM EST but because of Michigan State basketball the start times were 1PM & 9PM (I listened to the latter airing). Next weekend I have another movie date on Friday and I'm going to be away in Orlando on vacation to celebrate my birthday so I will miss next weekend's airing completely.
For the '80s extras, the debut position for "Make A Move On Me" (#69) was mentioned and "Genius Of Love" was mentioned as being eight weeks away (yes, eight weeks!) from hitting the countdown.
BTW for the '70s, I have an original copy of the 2/10/1979 show. The Four Tops extra was the biggest hit they ever had whereas the Aretha extra was teased with her Grammy winning streak (she won eight in a row).

BTW in listening to the op extras for the 2/10/1979 AT40, there was nothing chart-worthy for "Take Me Home" or "Knock On Wood". "I Get Around" was introduced by Casey as the biggest hit the Beach Boys ever had.
The intro for "Take Me Home" did mention the movies Cher starred in from "Silkwood" to "Moonstruck" to her recent film "Burlesque". The intro for "Knock On Wood" noted that it is a remake of the Eddie Floyd hit from 1966.

I thought it was interesting that Casey mentioned the jump that the Go-Go's took to get into the Top 40. I hadn't heard him mention the jumps like that since the first few countdowns in 1970. Did he mention them other times?

Glad Libra is now giving details on each week's AT40: The 70's chart as of last weekend. I only listen to the 70s shows from time to time. There were a couple things I wanted to listen for yesterday, so I tuned in.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEK'S AT40: THE 70's BROADCAST OF THE FEB. 17, 1973 AT40 CHART AFTER HEARING IT THIS MORNING ON WLS 94.7 FM CHICAGO:
* DID YOU KNOW: 1) Gladys Knight and the Pips first formed together in 1958? 2) The lead singer of Gallery - Jim Gold - once worked as a welder but didn't quit the job untl Gallery had their 2nd. top 40 hit in 1972? 3) "Living Together, Growing Together" by the 5th. Dimension is from the movie "Lost Horizon"? (Heck, I know 2 other songs from the "Lost Horizon" movie: "The World is a Circle" and "Question Me an Answer", why not order this movie on DVD via Warner Archive?) 4) Philadelphia born Billy "Me and Mrs. Jones" Paul has known Philadelphia born Bill Cosby since 1956? 5) Joni Mitchell wrote the songs "Both Sides Now" and "Woodstock"? 6) The Brigher Side of Darkness comes from Chicago? 7) John (Blue Ridge Rangers) Fogerty's former group Creedence Clearwater Revival is the most frustrated group ever to make the Top 40 without hitting #1 but came close of hitting #1 5 times reaching the #2 spot? 8) The cover to Stevie Wonder's Talking Book album is in a braile version? * QUESTION LETTERS: There were a lot of them this week - 4 to be exact! 1) Regarding the white artists to hit #1 on the Soul/R&B chart (Up to Feb. 1973 there were 21, such as Johnny Ray, Jimmy Gilmer, and Elvis Presley). 2) Regarding the number of foreign acts to hit #1 - 34 up to Feb. 1973 - and the second most foreign act behind the Beatles with #1 - The Rolling Stones. 3) Regarding the longest occupancy at #1 with different records (Elvis Presley with 80 weeks total at #1). 4) And regarding the #1 songs that hit #1 in a foreign language - "Volare" by Dominico Morito (Not sure I spelled his name right), "Sukiyaki" by Kyu Sakamoto, and "Dominique" by the Singing Nun ("La Bamba" by Los Lobos would later join the list). * BLOOPERS: 1) Casey called The Moody Blues song "I'm Just a Singer, A Rock 'n Roll Singer" instead of "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock 'n Roll Band". 2) Casey gave the name of Lobo's hometown as Florida, Talahassae instead of Talahassae, Florida (A shade of when Casey said "Hot Butter" by Popcorn in a 1972 AT40 show?) * OTHER THINGS: 1) Casey mentioned on the next 1973 AT40 show for Feb. 24, 1973 he would talk more details about the "Also Sprach 2001" composition although he gave a few details about it briefly before the song was played. 2) Speaking of the Feb. 24, 1973 chart, Casey's kept intact in the show prediction for the next week #1 was Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly" (and yes, it did go to #1 that next Feb. 24, 1973 week) * ONE FINAL NOTE: Was Kenny Loggins of Loggins and Messina - on this AT40 chart with "Your Momma Don't Dance" - originally called Ken Loggins?

- "We Connect" sounded rather different from when it was heard in last year's 3/14 show. Come to think of it, so did "Let's Wait Awhile" (though I think that one was simply the album version of the song).
- "Lean on Me" must have always received the soft jingle despite being more of an uptempo song, huh? It happened on 3/14 as well.
- "Stay the Night", more of a slower song, on the other hand, received the standard one, as did "At This Moment". Meanwhile, "Change of Heart", which has a rock flavor, also got a soft jingle.
- Speaking of jingles...there were quite a lot of them this week, 16 of them! :o
- "Hooked on You", though not a Top 40 hit until 1989, was originally released in 1987, and was peaking at #64 this week.
- Eerily, this week's show does feature an obituary (between #27 and #26). In this case, it's that of Liberace, who passed away on February 4.
- Casey must've really liked counting down the Top 5 albums of the week in 1987. (He also read them three weeks later on 3/14, and on 11/7.) Here they are for this week: #5 - Different Light by The Bangles, #4 - The Way it Is by Bruce Hornsby & The Range, #3 - Night Songs by Cinderella, #2 - License to Ill by The Beastie Boys, and #1...
- #1 on the Country chart: "Straight to the Heart" by Crystal Gayle
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Have You Ever Loved Somebody?" by Freddie Jackson
- #1 on the Album chart: Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi

I looked it up. His name was spelled Domenico Modugno. It held #1 for a week, fell to #2 then back to #1 for 5 more weeks.

I'm seeing 4 (but 5 total weeks including the week before the first fall-out). Then again, it is Wiki, which has been wrong about stats before. I looked at it myself because the going back to #1 for 5 more weeks jogged my memory...in the March 5, 1994 show, Shadoe Stevens answered a listener question asking if Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" returning to #1 had set a record. (On AT40, which was not using the Hot 100 by that point, "Ordinary World" hit #1, fell out, and returned to #1 for 5 more weeks.) Shadoe answered that it did set a record...for the Rock Era, and added a pre-Rock Era #1 that returned to #1 for longer. Very interesting in any case. And, it is in the earliest weeks of the Hot 100.
