Also: The June 20, 1987 AT40 episode to be heard on AT40: The 80's this weekend was the last AT40 show carried on WLS AM 890 Chicago since the next week AT40 moved to WYTZ Z-95 Chicago (currently occupied by WLS 94.7 FM which is an oldies station that carries AT40: The 70's Sunday mornings) where it remained for the next 4 years and 4 months.

And Premiere aired the first show to air on Z-95 (6/27/87) last year. BTW there will be regular countdown shows next weekend so probably the weekend after is when we'll see the specials.

- The episode from 6/23/1973 is a repeat. It previously aired back in 2010. - The previous week Don Bowman filled in for Casey. It had been mentioned (both in Bowman's show and this one) that Casey was feeling ill the week before but according to AT40 historian Pete Battistini that might not have been the case. It was likely Casey was given the week off and the 6/16 show was basically a dry run for Bowman who would go on to host the AT40 spinoff "American Country Countdown" in October. - The 6/16 episode was the only show Casey was absent for in all of 1973 and the first time he missed a show since 3/26/1972 when Dick Clark filled in. - Beatlemania was certainly alive and well as Casey explains here. On 5/26, the album "Beatles: 1967-1970" was at #1 on the album chart and the following week it was replaced by Paul McCartney & Wings' "Red Rose Speedway" and this week Paul was replaced atop the chart by George Harrison (see below). - In Casey's weekly #1 prediction, he picked "My Love" to repeat at #1. Spoiler alert: He was wrong. Not only did George Harrison replace Paul McCartney on this week's album chart but he would replace Paul at #1 on the Pop chart the following week. - #1 Soul: One Of A Kind (Love Affair) - #1 Country: Satin Sheets - #1 Album: Living In The Material World - George Harrison

(Speaking of Perry Como, does Premiere Radio Networks have a grudge against Mr. Como since they edited the 1973 Como song "And I Love You So" with the first verse and chorus and ending notes to about over a minute or something like that on this AT40 rebroadcast, I think the original has played the complete 45 version, but I may be wrong, but I digress and let's go on with other AT40 facts of the week...) 4) The Independents come from Chicago? 5) The Stylistics' "You'll Never Get To Heaven" was a remake of a 1964 Dionne Warwick song? 6) The original "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" (remade by Bette Midler) done by the Andrews Sisters was first heard in the 1941 Abbott and Costello movie "Buck Privates"?, 7) According to a music critic: The Carpenters music doesn't freak you out, it just makes you happy? 8) Sylvia recorded "Pillow Talk" with the lights turned off? 9) Clint Holmes was too quick to thank a girl who once gave him flowers? * QUESTION LETTERS: 1) Regarding the most consecutive #1's - 6 from November 21, 1964 to December 26, 1964 (This record would be broken in January-April 1975). 2) Regarding the time an English and Foreign version of the same song was on the chart - 3 versions of an Italian song called "Marina" (when?). * BLOOPER OR NOT?: Was it Premiere's fault and/or Shannon Lynn's fault (unless its the radio station WLS 94.7 FM's fault) that there was a skip during Casey's intro and story on the #2 song of this AT40 episode 'Playground in my Mind" by Clint Holmes? * ALSO: 1) Casey likes a classic Charlie Rich (on the chart with "Behind Closed Doors") song called "Lonely Weekend". 2) Among the station mentions - Then AT40 station KAYC in Beaumont, Texas sounds like Casey Kasem's first name! 3) Casey played a drop piece of Three Dog Night's song "Liar" which Casey mentioned was recorded in a mens restroom rather than a recording studio. 4) There were a few plugs kept intact for the upcoming AT40 Top 40 Disappearing Acts special. 5) Also kept intact a few times was a thing that during the Summer when you are listening to AT40 on vacation or on the road to send a SASE to your local AT40 radio station (not the AT40 headquaters) for a list of the radio stations that were carrying AT40 at the time (In 1973 AT40 was listened to in about 200 cities in the USA, does this include foreign markets like Canada and Mexico as well? And this was long before we had internet!) Speaking of Don Bowman, if only Premiere Radio Networks or whoever has the rights to American Country Countdown could rerun the 1970's and 1980's Don Bowman ACC shows on SXM radio and/or country radio stations under the title "American Country Countdown Flashback" or some other title like that.

I want to point out that Don Bowman only hosted ACC from 1973-'78 when he was replaced by Bob Kingsley who would host ACC until the end of 2005 (when the show would be hosted by Kix Brooks).

Make that "American Country Countdown: The Don Bowman Years" for 1973-1978 ACC shows and "American Country Countdown: The 1980's/1990's" for Bob Kingsley shows if Premiere or ABC or whoever owns ACC rights wants to consider rerun packages.

Five songs debut on AT40 this week so five songs dropped out "La Isla Bonita" by Madonna (LW: #38) "I Just Died In Your Arms" by Cutting Crew (LW: #32) "Heat Of The Night" by Bryan Adams (LW: #29) "I Know What I Like" by Huey Lewis & The News (LW: #25) and "If She Would Have Been Faithful" by Chicago (LW: #24)
- Why was "Don't Dream It's Over" chosen as an extra? Well, Premiere used it to pay tribute to former Crowded House drummer Peter Jones who died of cancer but, as Larry Morgan mentioned, Jones was not part of the group back in 1987. - As you can see, there was only one Long Distance Dedication in this show. This would become more common during the end of Casey's first AT40 stint and pretty much throughout the Shadoe Stevens era. - BTW in said LDD, "Buffalo Bill" said "before you know it, they (the Bills) will be in the Super Bowl". Eventually he would be right there but at least he stopped short of saying the Bills will actually WIN a Super Bowl. :) - Casey began Hours #2 and #4 by welcoming new affiliates which is unusual for a 1987 show but it was common for 1982 shows after ABC Radio's purchase of Watermark resulted in numerous AT40 affiliate swaps. - And file this under "it's just a coincidence" that among the new stations welcomed was Q-94 in Altoona-Johnstown PA located close to State College where this weekend former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky was recently found guilty of sexually molesting young boys. - Which brings me to "I Want Your Sex". :) Casey actually mentioned the song's title in the song's intro and outro. However, when introing Bob Seger's "Shakedown", he says this: "Two songs in the survey from 'Beverly Hills Cop 2'. Back at #36, George Michael debuted..." - #1 Country: "Forever And Ever, Amen" - Randy Travis - #1 Album: The Joshua Tree - U2 - #1 Soul/Dance: I Wanna Dance With Somebody

Remember back in April 2012 on AT40: The 70's there was an April 1978 AT40 episode played/aired for its fourth time since the AT40: The 70's series started back in 2007? Now this coming weekend there may be a second AT40: The 70's show about to get a fourth playing/airing.
And rumor has it AT40: The 70's may not play again another 1979 4 hour show with first hour optional until August or September of this year.

Clarification: I just found out that 3 time played/aired June 18, 1977 AT40 episode isn't the one played on AT40: The 70's this weekend. This week's show is from the following week: June 25, 1977, which Premiere has never aired. For the 80s it's June 28, 1980, which was heard three years ago. And if the above rumor proves true, then it would be at least three and maybe four or five months between 1979 AT40s; the last one was the weekend of April 28-29, and a lot of stations didn't air it because the same week Dick Clark's 1972 guest-hosted show was also offered as a tribute to him. If there's one year they shouldn't skip for so long it's 1979, as Premiere did not play it for nearly four years (until November 2010.)

I bet it's like Premiere having a grudge against songs by Perry Como (last week's AT40: The 70's rebroadcast of the June 23, 1973 AT40 episode had Perry Como's "And I Love You So" edited down to first verse and ending chorus) and songs by Al Stewart (especially Al's "Year of the Cat" which gets edited down to about a minute on AT40: The 70's airings of 1977 shows when "Year of the Cat" is on the AT40 chart). Since the last episode when AT40 used the 1970's #1 songs of the AT40 archives from June 21, 1980 can't be played since that week was guest hosted by Dave Roberts as Casey took the week off, I don't know if Premiere aired on AT40: The 80's the next to last week of the 1970's AT40 Archives episode from June 14, 1980 (which featured in the AT40 archives The Commodores' "Still", Donna Summer/Barbra Streisand's "No More Tears", and Styx's "Babe") which is safe to air.

I don't think it's as much of a grudge as it was the last "new" such show by Premiere to delete any #1 Archive songs from the '60s (any such "new" shows that Premiere aired since had all three '60s Archive songs in full; the earliest being the 7/19/80 show that aired two years ago and the 7/26/80 show that aired last year). I think the production staff failed to correct the mistakes of the previous production staff (though it's not as much the current staff's fault as it was the former). Premiere has never aired the 6/14/80 show. I failed to point out earlier for 1977 that Premiere chose "I Feel Love" as an op extra due to Donna Summer's recent death.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEK'S AT40: THE 70'S REBROADCAST OF THE JUNE 25, 1977 AT40 EPISODE THAT I HEARD ON WLS 94.7 FM CHICAGO THIS MORNING: * BY THE NUMBERS: There are 10 foreign acts on the AT40 chart, and there are 2 versions of "Gonna Fly Now" - Maynard Fergerson and Bill Conti - also on this AT40 chart. * DID YOU KNOW: 1) Boston's 1976 debut album was the fastest selling debut album since the debut album by the Beatles called "Meet the Beatles"? 2) The Carpenters are the most successful brother and sister act? 3) Joe Tex sounds hoarse when he records songs? 4) Peter McCann was a member of a not successful music group called the Repairs? 5) Phil Spector, who produced "Da Doo Ron Ron" originally by the Crystals and then covered by Shaun Cassidy, was the most popular record producer of the 1960's? 6) Marvin Gaye, who occupied the #1 spot with "Got to Give It Up, Part 1" on this AT40 episode, originally hated performing life and would duck away from being interviewed? * QUESTION LETTERS: 1) Regarding the musical family with the most top 40 recording acts: The Osmond family with 5 different combinations. 2) Regarding the #1 song with less weeks spent in the Hot 100: 5 different by the Beatles and 1 by Herman's Hermits ("I'm Henry VIII, I Am"). 3) Regarding a song that spent the most weeks on the Hot 100 climbing to reach its peak position: "Why Me" by Kris Kristofferson in 1973. * ALSO: 1) Casey played a drop piece of a 1930 Duke Ellington standard called "Battle of Swing" to tie into the song by Stevie Wonder that paid tribute to Duke Ellington called "Sir Duke". 2) There were plugs kept intact for the upcoming July 4th. weekend 1977 AT40 special of the Top 40 girl songs of the rock era. 3) WLS 94.7 FM Chicago played the first AT40 Optional Extra of "Handy Man" by James Taylor.
Now...for next weekend on AT40: The 70's there are some possibilities I noticed from some sources that the AT40 July 4ish episode would be either: * The 1972 AT40 Top 40 songs of the Rock Era special. * The 1976 AT40 #1 4th. of July songs special. * The 1979 AT40 Top 40 Disco Songs special (4 hours with first hour optional) But what would AT40: The 80's plan for their July 4ish episode next weekend, unless it's a regular AT40 episode?

I've had online issues for the past week but I think I've got them worked out now. Here's the recap from 6/28/1980 initially posted by Libra back in 2009 (with some additions - namely the op extras, the "On Broadway" story and the other #1's added).
June 28, 1980 LW #3: Ambrosia "Biggest Part of Me" LW #2: Paul McCartney "Coming Up" LW #1: Lipps, Inc. "Funkytown" 40 40 Blondie - Atomic (39) 39 DE Rodney Crowell - Ashes By Now (37) 38 38 Tommy Tutone - Angel Say No (38) 37 DE Mickey Gilley - Stand By Me (22) 36 DE S.O.S. Band - Take Your Time (Do it Right) (3) 35 39 Genesis - Misunderstanding (14) 34 DE Kenny Rogers - Love the World Away (14) 33 32 Frank Sinatra - Theme From New York New York (32) 32 33 Rupert Holmes - Answering Machine (32) Flashback Extra: Meco "The Empire Strikes Back (Medley)" 31 34 Joe Walsh - All Night Long (19) 30 31 Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio - Two Places at the Same Time (30) 29 35 Blues Brothers - Gimme Some Lovin' (18) 28 26 Air Supply - Lost in Love (3) 27 25 Bruce Cockburn - Wondering Where the Lions Are (21) 26 19 Linda Ronstadt - Hurt So Bad (8) LDD: The Doobie Brothers "It Keeps You Runnin' " from a runner nicknamed "Crash" to his one-time high school long-distance running teammate Doug for keeping them both running 25 DE Charlie Daniels Band - In America (11) 24 18 Brothers Johnson - Stomp (7) 23 29 Kim Carnes - More Love (10) 22 17 The Pretenders - Brass in Pocket (I'm Special) (14) AT40 Extra: The second #1 of the 1960s, from January 1960: Marty Robbins "El Paso" Flashback Extra: REO Speedwagon "Time For Me To Fly" 21 28 Electric Light Orchestra - I'm Alive (16) 20 14 Kenny Rogers & Kim Carnes - Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer (4) 19 21 Neil & Dara Sedaka - Should've Never Let You Go (19) 18 20 Rocky Burnette - Tired of Toein' the Line (8) 17 22 Carole King - One Fine Day (12) 16 24 Olivia Newton-John - Magic (1) 15 12 Blondie - Call Me (1) Extra: George Benson "On Broadway" 14 09 Gary Numan - Cars (9) 13 16 The Manhattans - Shining Star (5) 12 15 Pure Prairie League - Let Me Love You Tonight (10) Flashback Extra: Benny Mardones "Into The Night" 11 13 Jermaine Jackson - Let's Get Serious (9) 10 10 Michael Jackson - She's Out of My Life (10) 09 11 The Spinners - Cupid/I've Loved You For a Long Time (4) 08 03 Ambrosia - Biggest Part of Me (3) 07 08 Robbie Dupree - Steal Away (6) LDD: Andrew Gold "Thank You For Being a Friend" from Terri in San Francisco to her former audiologist Debbie for helping her overcome her fears of her hearing problems when she was young 06 07 Elton John - Little Jeanie (3) 05 05 Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Against the Wind (5) 04 06 Billy Joel - It's Still Rock & Roll to Me (1) 03 04 Bette Midler - The Rose (3) Flashback Extra: Eddie Rabbitt "Drivin' My Life Away" 02 01 Lipps, Inc. - Funkytown (1) 01 02 Paul McCartney - Coming Up (1)
NOTES:
- The story for "On Broadway" centered on Jerry Leiber (of the legendary songwriting Lieber & Stoller duo) who was white and was raised in the Ghetto neighborhood in Baltimore and while he was helping his mother at a local candy store in the neighborhood grew up listening to R&B music played on the radio. Lieber of course died last year. - :o at that high debut... - It turns out that this week marks the only time during the original AT40 era that two Jackson siblings have been back-to-back in the Top 40 solo (back-to-back did happen again on 9/29/84, though then it was Jermaine ["Dynamite"] and The Jacksons ["Torture"]). - #1 Country: "Tryin' To Love Two Women" - The Oak Ridge Boys - #1 Soul: Take Your Time (Do It Right) - #1 Album: Glass Houses - Billy Joel

But what would AT40: The 80's plan for their July 4ish episode next weekend, unless it's a regular AT40 episode? From what I hear, the 1980s show is going to be a regular weekly show. They could, however, still surprise us and send stations a special show (such as the Triathalon of Rock & Roll show), like they did this past Memorial Day weekend (with the 1986 weekly show along with the Top 40 Newcomers of the 1980s So Far show).

Now here is the post for this weekend's '70s shows.
Affiliates have their choice of airing either the Top 40 Disco Special (which already aired in 2008) or the Top 40 Hits of the Rock Era.
Most affiliates I've heard from plan to air the Disco Special (with most of said affiliates airing the three-hour version).
Dropped from the lineup completely is the Commodores' "Three Times A Lady" which was part of a survey among the top slow dance songs (The Commodores were #2 between "How Deep Is Your Love" which was in Hour #1 and "Reunited"). All original extras (including the Hour #1 extras) remain intact.
Optional extras for this show are: "Never Can Say Goodbye" - Gloria Gaynor "Copacabana (At The Copa)" - Barry Manilow "Heart Of Glass" - Blondie "Love Hangover" - Diana Ross
As for the Top 40 Songs of the Rock Era, the optional extras are: "Sugar Shack" - Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs "Sherry" - The Four Seasons "Tossin' & Turnin'" - Bobby Lewis

A tidbit about the 1979 AT40 Disco special: One station, WGCL G-98 in Cleveland, Ohio, didn't air the special and did its own AT40 for that week using the July 7, 1979 Billboard chart with Townsend Coleman doing the hosting chores.

I'll find out what WLS 94.7 FM Chicago chooses to air this Sunday morning, either the 1972 special or 1979 special. Somehow I guess they would air the Disco special like a lot of stations are airing but we'll see.

WLS 94.7 FM Chicago aired the 1979 AT40 Disco special this morning for AT40: The 70's but started with the second hour not playing the first hour. (Song #30 was "Dazz" by Brick, the #1 disco song was "Le Freak" by Chic, glad it didn't pull a Townsend Coleman (G-98 Cleveland) to air the 1972 Top 40 Rock 'n Roll Acts special.
The 1979 Disco special featured disco songs and extras and disco related facts and quotes thoroughout. Although the 1960 "The Twist" isn't considered disco. And, long before the Shadoe Stevens 1990's AT40 era when some songs on the show were looped to repeat a verse or line or so to make time: Was the #29 disco song "Disco Inferno" by the Trammps have a part or verse looped or was it my imagination.
I heard a skip between the intro and start of Alicia Bridges' "I Love The Night Life", I don't know if it is WLS' fault or Shannon Lynn's editing fault.
WLS played OPTIONAL EXTRA #3: "Heart of Glass" by Blondie (the video was filmed at Studio 54, the famous NYC disco studio of the disco heyday).
Regarding the Village People "San Francisco" extra: Casey mentioned even though it made #1 on the disco chart in 1977, it never charted on Billboard's Hot 100 chart since it was never released as a single - WRONG! That Village People "San Francisco" song bubbled under the Hot 100 at #102. And to my knowledge: It wouldn't be until 1992 when (at the time of the Shadoe Stevens AT40 era) after the old AT40 abandoned the Billboard Hot 100 source for first for a year the Billboard Radio Monitor and then Billboard Top 40 Mainstream Airplay charts that songs not to be released as singles would make the AT40 chart (The first of that kind was "Steel Bars" by Michael Bolton), and even Radio and Records' Airplay charts (Radio and Records was even mentioned in the AT40 disco special, pf course, 2 decades before Casey would start using R&R for his AT40 second life) has seen songs make the chart not available as singles and still did even after the Billboard/R&R merger of 2006!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next week, I will be back to my normal AT40: The 70's episode posting, but things to come: * Since this week's AT40 was a 1979 episode originally 4 hours with first optional extra, I predict the next 1979 AT40 show won't be played on AT40: The 70's until September 2012 (I also hope in October 2012 the first ever 4 hour AT40 episode from October 7, 1978 gets played on AT40: The 70's this year!). * I also predict a 1970 AT40 episode won't be played on AT40: The 70's until sometime in August 2012. * And, what are the chances next month Premiere would rerun on AT40: The 70's the August 5, 1972 AT40 episode that was a NATIONAL ALBUM COUNTDOWN test show from 40 years ago?

This weekend, many "AT40: The '70s" affiliates aired the Top 40 Hits of the Disco Era special from 7/7/1979. So I will post this chart from that show. The Top 40 Hits of the Disco Era (1974-'79) Extra: The Hues Corporation "Rock The Boat"40. Donna Summer - Love To Love You Baby (1976) 39. Peaches & Herb - Shake Your Groove Thing (1979) 38. LTD - Back In Love Again (1977) 37. Donna Summer - Last Dance (1978) 36. Vickie Sue Robinson - Turn The Beat Around (1976) 35. K.C. & The Sunshine Band - Keep It Comin' Love (1977) 34. The Jacksons - Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground) (1979) 33. Peter Brown with Betty Wright - Dance With Me (1978) Extra: The Bee Gees "How Deep Is Your Love", voted the #3 slow dance song played at Discos.32. KC & The Sunshine Band - That's The Way (I Like It) (1975) 31. Donna Summer - I Feel Love (1977) Flashback Extra: Gloria Gaynor "Never Can Say Goodbye", which was the very first #1 in Billboard's Disco Action chart where it would spend four weeks at #1.30. Brick - Dazz (1977) 29. The Trammps - Disco Inferno (1978) 28. Amii Stewart - Knock On Wood (1979) Extra: Chubby Checker "The Twist"27. The Bee Gees - You Should Be Dancing (1976) 26. The Silver Convention - Get Up And Boogie (That's Right) (1976) 25. The Village People - In The Navy (1979) 24. Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing (1976) 23. Marvin Gaye - Got To Give It Up (Part I) (1977) 22. The Silver Convention - Fly, Robin, Fly (1975) 21. Donna Summer - Hot Stuff (1979) Flashback Extra: Barry Manilow "Copacabana (At The Copa)"20. Meco - Star Wars Theme (Cantina Band) (1977) 19. Andrea True Connection - More, More, More (1976) 18. The Rolling Stones - Miss You (1978) Extra: Rick Dees & His Cast Of Idiots "Disco Duck"17. Rose Royce - Car Wash (1977) 16. Yvonne Elliman - If I Can't Have You (1978) 15. K.C. & The Sunshine Band - Shake, Shake, Shake (Shake Your Booty) (1976) Extra: Peaches & Herb "Reunited", voted the #1 slow dance song played at Discos.14. K.C. & The Sunshine Band - I'm Your Boogie Man (1977) 13. Chic - Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah) (1978) 12. Donna Summer - MacArthur Park (1978) 11. Thelma Houston - Don't Leave Me This Way (1977) Flashback Extra: Blondie "Heart Of Glass"10. The Village People - Y.M.C.A. (1979) 09. A Taste Of Honey - Boogie Oogie Oogie (1978) 08. Alicia Bridges - I Like The Nightlife (Disco 'Round) (1978) Extra: Van McCoy & His Soul City Symphony "The Hustle"07. Rod Stewart - Do Ya Think I'm Sexy (1979) 06. Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive (1979) 05. Walter Murphy & His Big Apple Band - A Fifth Of Beethoven (1976) Extra: The Village People "San Francisco (You Got Me)"04. The Emotions - Best Of My Love (1977) 03. The Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive (1978) Flashback Extra: Diana Ross "Love Hangover"02. The Bee Gees - Night Fever (1978) 01. Chic - Le Freak (1978) - Let me tell you, it wasn't easy to find a four-hour show and be able to listen to all four op extras. I listened to Hour #1 from WODC in Columbus OH with the remainder from the Tuesday airing of CKWW in Windsor Ontario. - Of course, we were missing the #2 slow dance song which was the Commodores' "Three Times A Lady". Premiere skipped this song entirely even though the Commodores song was played as an optional extra when this show first aired in 2008. - Don't you think that Chubby Checker song got lost in all of those Disco songs? :) - Did Casey goof or was he predicting the future? During the show Casey mentioned that Harry Caray was putting out a Disco version of "Take Me Out To The Ball Game". Only problem was Casey said Harry was a Chicago Cubs announcer. Although for many of us here, Harry did become synonymous with the Cubs, he didn't join the North Siders until 1982. Caray was with the crosstown White Sox then (and it was with the White Sox where his unique 7th-inning stretch tradition began). You can check out some of Harry singing from his White Sox days hereAnd back in 1979 while many AT40 stations played the Disco Special, one affiliate in Cleveland did not follow suit Instead, they produced a fake version of AT40 with local DJ Townsend Coleman "fillling in" for Casey with the current Billboard chart. I have that show and I'll post the chart here. July 7, 1979 Host: Townsend Coleman LW #3: Donna Summer "Bad Girls" LW #2: Donna Summer "Hot Stuff" LW #1: Anita Ward "Ring My Bell"DE 40 Bette Midler - Married Men (40)DE 39 Joe Jackson - Is She Really Going Out With Him (21) 17 38 Peaches & Herb - Reunited (1) DE 37 Maxene Nightengale - Lead Me On (5) 38 36 Robert John - Sad Eyes (1) 40 35 Wet Willie - Weekend (29) 35 34 Blondie - One Way Or Another (24) DE 33 Barbra Streisand - The Main Event/Fight (3) 36 32 James Taylor - Up On The Roof (28) 37 31 Paul McCartney & Wings - Getting Closer (20) 33 30 Kansas - People Of The Southwind (23) 32 29 Anne Murray - Shadows In The Moonlight (25) 14 28 The Doobie Brothers - Minute By Minute (14) 30 27 Elton John - Mama Can't Buy You Love (9) 28 26 Atlanta Rhythm Section - Do It Or Die (19) DE 25 Chic - Good Times (1) 26 24 Kiss - I Was Made For Loving You (11) 23 23 Poco - Heart Of The Night (20) 25 22 ABBA - Does Your Mother Know (19) 24 21 Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio - You Can't Change That (9) 22 20 Gerry Rafferty - Days Gone Down (17) 21 19 Peter Frampton - I Can't Stand It No More (14) 20 18 McFadden & Whitehead - Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now (13) 19 17 Dr. Hook - When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman (6) 18 16 Van Halen - Dance The Night Away (15) 10 15 Rex Smith - Take My Breath Away (10) 09 14 Randy Vanwarmer - Just When I Needed You Most (4) 15 13 Electric Light Orchestra - Shine A Little Love (8) 11 12 The Bee Gees - Love You Inside Out (1) 16 11 John Stewart - Gold (5) 12 10 Cheap Trick - I Want You To Want Me (7) 13 09 David Naughton - Makin' It (5) 04 08 Sister Sledge - We Are Family (2) 08 07 Earth, Wind & Fire with the Emotions - Boogie Wonderland (6) 06 06 Supertramp - The Logical Song (6) 07 05 Kenny Rogers - She Believes In Me (5) 05 04 Rickie Lee Jones - Chuck E.'s In Love (4)02 03 Donna Summer - Hot Stuff (1) 03 02 Donna Summer - Bad Girls (1) 01 01 Anita Ward - Ring My Bell (1) - All in all, Townsend did do a decent job on this countdown given the presumed limits given. First of all, he couldn't continue with the AT40 #1 Archive feature that Casey was doing (after all, the Archive songs would've been Andy Kim's "Rock Me Gently", Olivia Newton-John's "I Honestly Love You" and Billy Preston's "Nothing From Nothing") as it wouldn't make sense with Casey playing the three songs I just mentioned the following week. Long Distance Dedications were also out of the question. - To fill the four hours alloted, Townsend did play extra long versions of some songs. Among those songs I noticed with lengthy versions played were "I Was Made For Loving You", "When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman", "Makin' It" and I believe the special "Hot Stuff/Bad Girls" version with both songs blended in. - Among the unnecessary items that were in this mock AT40. 1.) Some of the material was noticeably stolen from when Casey hosted the 6/23/1979 show. Even two rounds of affiliate mentions were stolen (with Townsend subbing the last of the station mentions with G-98). Also some jingles were noticeably misplaced. For example, the #22 jingle aired before song #19, the #19 jingle before #17 and the #15 jingle before #5. - And they managed to splice a "Casey's Coast-to-Coast" jingle (also unnecessary) with "T.C.'s Coast-to-Coast". Even though the other #1's from that week weren't mentioned, I'll list them anyway. - #1 Soul: Ring My Bell - #1 Country: "Amanda" - Waylon Jennings - #1 Album: Bad Girls - #1 Disco: Bad Girls

NOTES: - Remember what I said two weeks ago how common it was in 1982 for Casey to open multiple hours by welcoming new affiliates? Well it was certainly true this week as Casey began Hours #2 and #4 by welcoming seven new affiliates each. However, Casey did not give the regular station mentions in Hour #4. - For the Don Williams LDD, Casey offered an update on Sharon's condition and the procedure went well. - For optional extras, I noticed "Hot In The City" and "Eye In The Sky" were shortened. - Speaking of op extras, it was mentioned in "Vacation" that it was believed to be the first ever single released on cassette. This was the case on the 6/13/1987 episode when Casey played "Vacation" as an extra (Though Premiere deleted "Vacation" from that show when it aired in 2007 and 2009). - #1 Country: Any Day Now - #1 Soul: Let It Whip - #1 Album: Asia

While I am about to see later the details on this weekend's AT40: The 70's and AT40: The 80's shows: Is there a true rumor that as of last week and this week there will now be 2 different AT40: The 70's episodes offered to radio stations - One from the early-mid 1970's and one from the late 1970's (Including the 4 hour 1978-1979 shows with first hour optional)?

Not entirely true. Just when there are four-hour shows from 1978/79 involved apparently.
