* BLOOPERS: 1) Casey mentioned to give out the address to send AT40 question letters but he didn't unless Premiere edited out that address from the original! 2) Casey mentioned Austin Roberts had 3 chart records, but Austin Roberts' "Rocky" is is second top 40 hit! 3) Casey mentioned The Pointer Sisters had 5 chart records, but the Pointer Sisters had 3 Top 40 hits up to 1975! Maybe by "chart records" he meant all singles that reached the Hot 100 chart, including those that fell short of the top 40.

The Pointers did chart with "Wang Doodle Doodle" (peak: #61) and "Live Your Life Before You Die" (peak: #89) prior to "How Long" hence they did chart five times in the Hot 100. Austin Roberts was also in the Hot 100 with "Keep On Singing" (peak: #50) inbetween "Something's Wrong With Me" and "Rocky". BTW in terms of songs that end tragically this week, I'll take "Rocky" over "Run Joey Run" hands down.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEKEND'S AT40: THE 70'S EPISODE OF THE SEPTEMBER 10, 1977 AT40 EPISODE AIRED ON WLS 94.7 FM CHICAGO THIS SUNDAY MORNING:
* BY THE NUMBERS: There are 5 remakes on this AT40 chart, and there are 2 versions of the Star Wars Theme on this AT40 chart as well. * DID YOU KNOW: 1) Ted Nugent is from Detroit, Michigan? 2) George Benson began his music career at age 8 playing a ukelele in front of a candy store? 3) Carole King and Neil Sedaka were friends in the 1960's? 4) Many fans were criticized (even Phil Spector and Los Angeles Times music critis Robert Hilburn) about Elvis Presley's overweight and sloppy performaces in his last year or so prior to Elvis' 1977 death? 5) Leo Sayer wrote the tracks for Roger Daltry's 1973 debut solo album? 6) That's Rock 'n Roll by Shaun Cassidy was first recorded by Eric Carmen? 7) Meco originally hated rock 'n roll music for 17 years because he thinks it was garbage (Casey even mentioned as part of the Meco story on his hate of rock music then AT40 NYC affiliate WPIX)? 8) Stephen Bishop originally wrote songs for Art Garfunkel's "Break Away" album? 9) The group Heart in 1972 was $500,000 in debt while living in a cold house in Vancouver, Canada? 10) The Emotions (#1 on this AT40 chart with "Best of My Love") was originally from Chicago? * QUESTION LETTERS:1) Regarding the theme to the TV show that spent the longest at #1 - "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" by Bill "Days of Our Lives" Hayes, 2) Regarding the biggest Canadian group of the rock era - The Guess Who, and 3) Regarding the year the British occupied more weeks at #1 on the American chart than the Americans did - 1965 with 28 out of 52 weeks. * BLOOPER: Casey called the previous hit by KC and the Sunshine Band "Boogie Man" instead of "I'm Your Boogie Man". * ALSO: WLS 94.7 FM played the first optional extra which was the demoted to OPTIONAL EXTRA status original AT40 extra of "Cats in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin (And to tie in to it Casey mentioned that beginning in 1975 every Thanksgiving Harry Chapin did a Thanksgiving radio telethon in New York City, that's almost like when Jerry Lewis used to do the famous Muscular Dystrophy (MDA) telethons on Labor Day!)

Carole King wrote a song called Oh Neil which was not a ht 'That's Rock N Roll' appeared on the 1975 album 'Eric Carmen'. Shaun Cassidy also covered another Eric Carmen song called 'Hey Deanie'

And I hope AT40: The 70's plays a 1973 AT40 show sometime soon whether or not it's one of 2 possible AT40: The 70's show choices like it has happened several times so far this 2012 year.

I just noticed next weekend's AT40: The 70's is another 2 episode offering, but 1973 gets shafted again. And because of this, my weekly preview will be a double post as usual. Also as usual, the '80s (since there's only one show) will be first: "AT40: The '80s" this week will be from 9/20/1986. This show previously aired back in 2008. Three songs debuted this week: "Earth Angel" - New Edition (#34) "Girl Can't Help It" - Journey (#37) "Paranoimia" - The Art Of Noise Featuring Max Headroom (#40) Three songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Yankee Rose" - David Lee Roth (#22) "That Was Then, This Is Now" - The Monkees (#36) "Velcro Fly" - ZZ Top (#39) Biggest Mover (tie): "True Colors" - Cyndi Lauper (#40 to #30) "Heartbeat" - Don Johnson (#30 to #20) Biggest Dropper: "Papa Don't Preach" - Madonna (#14 to #27) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "Your Wildest Dreams" - The Moody Blues "Daniel" - Elton John Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "The Way It Is" - Bruce Hornsby & The Range (#86; debuted) Hour #2: "I'll Be Over You" - Toto (#44) Hour #3: "Human" - The Human League (#51) Hour #4: "Take Me Home Tonight" - Eddie Money (#46) '70s recap is coming soon.

Little Darling' is by The Diamonds, not the Coasters.
At least The Twist was kept intact on the AT40 1979 Disco Songs special rebroadcast.

Three songs debut this week on American Top 40, the three songs that fall out to make room for them are: "Velcro Fly" by ZZ Top (LW: #39) "That Was Then, This Is Now" by the Monkees (LW: #36) and "Yankee Rose" by David Lee Roth (LW: #22)
- I had to alter the way Casey announced the droppers this week. They were announced after playing "Paranoimia" at #40 and Casey said something like "two other songs besides 'Paranoimia' debut..." - This was almost the same optional extra lineup as its' 2008 airing except Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name" was played instead of "Take Me Home Tonight". - In the intro to "Human", Larry Morgan noted that the song hit #1 in 76 countries including the United States. I wonder if that is a record. - #1 Album: Top Gun - #1 Soul: "The Rain" - Oran "Juice" Jones - #1 Dance: When I Think Of You - #1 Country: "Got My Heart Set On You" - John Conlee

No, I am out of town this weekend so I did not know how WLS 94.7 FM Chicago aired AT40 The 70's this weekend, but I will resume recaps next weekend and hope next weekend's episode is one or two choices and/or a 1973 AT40 episode!

Five songs dropped out of the Top 40 this week: "Tell It All Brother" (LW: #36) "I Want To Take You Higher" (LW: #37) "Get Up (I Feel Like A Sex Machine)" (LW: #32) "Overture From 'Tommy'" (LW: #28) and "I Just Can't Help Believing" (LW: #24)
Here were the story explanations for the four extras besides "Help!": - "The Green Door": Biggest hit song by an active disc jockey (Casey also mentioned "almost" hitting the Top 40 with "Letter To Elena") - "Little Darlin'": At the time it held the longest time at #2 (eight weeks in total) without ever hitting #1. Of course, Foreigner's "Waiting For A Girl Like You" would surpass that total (10 weeks at #2) in 1981. - "Suspicion": Terry Stafford and Bob Summers (one-man orchestra)'s long wait to get a record deal (even Herb Alpert's A&M label held on to their master for 18 months before rejecting them). - "Surfer Stomp": Casey mentioned this being the first big hit song about surfing. - And even though it wasn't played, Chubby Checker's "The Twist" was being honored as the #1 song from 10 years ago (1960). - #1 Soul: Don't Play That Song - #1 Country: "For The Good Times" - Ray Price - #1 Album: Cosmo's Factory - Creedence Clearwater Revival
I'm almost done with 1979. I just need to hear the last op extra before posting.

Did you listen to WLS to see what '70s show they aired? Haven't seen a recap yet. No, I am out of town this weekend so I did not know how WLS 94.7 FM Chicago aired AT40 The 70's this weekend, but I will resume recaps next weekend and hope next weekend's episode is one or two choices and/or a 1973 AT40 episode! According to Hervard on the AT40 Fun & Games board, 1979 was played (three-hour version).

but I will resume recaps next weekend and hope next weekend's episode is one or two choices and/or a 1973 AT40 episode! This is your lucky day. Next weekend it will be from 9/22/1973 and it is the only '70s show scheduled to air.
