1987 was the first and only time that I heard "Into My Secret" because the SKY channel in Europe played the debuts on the US Hot 100 that week as I remembered. I own that particular issue but it's in storage and she spent only one week at her peak position. I never heard that song again until several years later, which was the fall of 2001. ...And then "Strangelove" was a huge Club hit at the time and it did nothing at Pop, even the second time around a year later being remixed.

Huh...when did they start broadcasting this?
About a month or two ago I happened to catch part of a 1988 show on WCRZ (Flint). I'd been trying to catch another show ever since, but wasn't able to until last night, when I was driving home from up by Tawas with my boyfriend. We had to run a couple errands along the way and finally got home just as #19 was finishing, and I decided I wanted to listen to the rest of the show, so I found a radio and turned it on.
September 4, 1982 LW #3: Steve Miller Band "Abracadabra" LW #2: John Cougar "Hurts So Good" LW #1: Survivor "Eye of the Tiger" 40 40 Paul Davis "Love or Let Me Be Lonely" (2nd week) 39 --- Laura Branigan "Gloria" (2) 38 38 Ray Parker Jr. "Let Me Go" (2nd week) 37 --- A Flock of Seagulls "I Ran" (9) 36 36 Marshall Crenshaw "Someday, Someway" (2nd week) 35 39 Randy Meisner "Never Been in Love" (28) LDD: Genesis "Follow You, Follow Me" by a girl to her Alaska hometown 34 --- Frank & Moon Zappa "Valley Girl" (32) 33 21 Gary U.S. Bonds "Out of Work" (21) 32 37 Joan Jett & The Blackhearts "Do You Wanna Touch Me" (20) 80s Extra: Toni Basil "Mickey", which debuted on Billboard at #80 this week 31 35 Michael Murphey "What's Forever For" (19) 30 34 Santana "Hold On" (15) 29 20 Toto "Rosanna" (2) 28 33 Michael McDonald "I Keep Forgettin' " (4) 27 30 Jermaine Jackson "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy" (18) 26 28 Billy Idol "Hot in the City" (23) 25 25 Kim Wilde "Kids in America" (4th week) 24 29 Jackson Browne "Somebody's Baby" (7) 23 26 Elton John "Blue Eyes" (12) 22 22 Jennifer Holliday "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" (2nd week) 21 24 Asia "Only Time Will Tell" (17) 20 23 America "You Can Do Magic" (8) 19 19 The Motels "Only the Lonely" (9) 18 07 REO Speedwagon "Keep the Fire Burnin' " (7) 17 17 Eddie Money "Think I'm in Love" (2nd week) (16) 16 16 Pointer Sisters "American Music" (2nd week) 15 18 Men at Work "Who Can it Be Now?" (1) 14 15 Alan Parsons Project "Eye in the Sky" (3) LDD: Dan Fogelberg "Leader of the Band" by a girl named Denise to her father 13 13 Kenny Rogers "Love Will Turn You Around" (2nd week) 12 12 Donna Summer "Love is in Control" (3rd week) (10) 11 14 John Cougar "Jack and Diane" (1) 10 10 Paul McCartney "Take it Away" (3rd week) 09 09 Crosby, Stills, and Nash "Wasted on the Way" (3rd week) 08 08 Go-Gos "Vacation" (3rd week) 07 02 John Cougar "Hurts So Good" (2) 06 11 Melissa Manchester "You Should Hear How She Talks About You" (5) 05 06 Air Supply "Even the Nights Are Better" 04 04 Fleetwood Mac "Hold Me" (7th week) 03 05 Chicago "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" (1) 02 01 Survivor "Eye of the Tiger" (1) 01 03 Steve Miller Band "Abracadabra"
I might be off by a song or two as to the placement of the first LDD and Extra, but I'm sure the second LDD was right after "Eye in the Sky". The ones who are past their peaks are "Only the Lonely" and every song that had a downward move this week.

Thanks for posting this week's 80s show Rune Knight but when I usually post the info for the episodes I usually edit out the extras or Long Distance Dedications when I post the chart info every week. I noticed...but I've noticed in similar AT40 flashback threads that those get a fair amount of discussion as well, so I elected to put them in. Plus, I found it interesting that "Mickey" debuted on the Hot 100 that very week (even though I couldn't care less for the song ).

Droppers: Velcro Fly That Was Then, This is Now Yankee Rose NOTES: - Right now I'm experiencing some odd kind of board malfunction. For some reason the board wouldn't let me post the whole thing in one post, which is why I've broken it up. If one of the mods/admins could combine all three later (and remove this note), that would be super! :)
- Both "Higher Love" and "Take My Breath Away" were shortened. I think both were missing their second verses on the show.
- Casey did list the droppers this week, so that's why I've listed them here. When a show airs where he lists them, I'll post them, and vice versa.
- If you want to know the LW positions, check out Page 2. ;)

Just curious, when these AT40 shows get rerun (I assume from the last couple of years since they've been re-broadcast), do they use the same optional segments they did last time?

You know I remember that show like i heard it yesterday. A lot of times these people who edit and re-air these shows do that editing thing. I know for a fact that the 2nd verse originally aired that weekend in 1986. You missed "Love Zone", they shortened that as well. "Higher Love" and the latter that I had mentioned were not only aired in full but they were also "full" album versions as well!

For me, hearing this show was significant because the week it originally aired, back in 1986, my local station dropped AT40 (they would soon change formats) and it would not be heard locally for about a year. So, it was nice to finally get to hear some of the show that I'd anticipated hearing on that very disappointing day.

I wouldn't have known on "Love Zone", Saturday night was the first time I've ever heard the song.

There were a hand full of songs that were shortened by the producers. To clarify this...The original show that aired was NOT shortened. I remember listening to the same episode when it aired originally UNedited. Just by listening to the two records I know that they are LP versions because of the intro and the bridge. On the single/radio mixes these are removed. But the producers decided to edit verses instead of these things mentioned, of which the labels do themselves. I hope I am making sense, now. :)

My apologies to the above poster for confusing you. I'd replied to your earlier post with a question mark, but that was only because this site was messing with me the other day and kept refusing to post what I was typing. The question mark post was my way of seeing if the problem was fixed (naturally THAT worked just fine), but after I re-typed everything, the site was back to not working. It's been modified now.

Yeah, I opted not to post this week's 80s show because I only listened to the first hour, plus a bit more. I went out with my boyfriend Saturday night. I also won't be posting next week's either since I'll be out of town this next weekend. The first LDD on the 80s show was somewhere around #30, I just don't remember where. There was also no extra inbetween songs in the 30s like there was the past two weeks.

Few things to add - Droppers: Rock Me Tonite Sunglasses at Night Lights Out We're Not Gonna Take It Ghostbusters "The Last Time I Made Love" was also at its peak, but "Cover Me" was not. That one made it to #7. And Stevie Wonder made it to #1. "Every Breath You Take" was an extra that was part of the show...Flashback Extras were "We're Not Gonna Take It" (after #31) and "All Through the Night" (after #11). Interesting choice of extras, given that one was a dropper and the other would debut the next week. Also...Casey announced the BB position that "Better Be Good to Me" was rising from (42), despite it being an AT40 debut. How often did he do that?

OMG! I should totally post my commentaries on here. I've been listening to AT40: The 80's every Saturday morning since March 2006.
