Even though we already covered the AT40 chart from 10/14/1978 early on in this thread, I'm posting the entire playlist from the show
October 14, 1978
LW TW 37 40 Dolly Parton - Heartbreaker (37) DE 39 Paul McCartney & Wings - London Town (39) 40 38 Paul Davis - Sweet Life (17) Extra: Boz Scaggs "Lowdown" DE 37 Dr. Hook - Sharing The Night Together (6) 38 36 David Gates - Took The Last Train (30) 23 35 Aerosmith - Come Together (23) 15 34 Robin Gibb - Oh Darlin' (15) 33 33 Michael Johnson - Almost Like Being In Love (32) 35 32 Stonebolt - I Will Still Love You (29) 39 31 Barry Manilow - Ready To Take A Chance Again (11) AT40 Archives: From February 1970 - Sly & The Family Stone "Thank You (Fa Lettin Me Be Mice Elf Agin)", the 4th #1 of the decade. AT40 Flashback Extra: Mike Oldfield "Tubular Bells" 07 10 Olivia Newton-John - Hopelessly Devoted To You (3) 05 09 John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John - Summer Nights (5) 10 08 Kenny Loggins with Stevie Nicks - Whenever I Call You Friend (5) 08 07 John Paul Young - Love Is In The Air (7) 09 06 Anne Murray - You Needed Me (1) LDD: Starland Vocal Band "Afternoon Delight" From Suzanne in New York to her former lover and co-worker George in Philadelphia; the song was requested because it reminded her of the time they spent together. 06 05 The Little River Band - Reminiscing (3) Extra: Jim Croce "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" 04 04 Boston - Don't Look Back (4) AT40 Flashback Extra: Bobby "Boris" Pickett & the Crypt-Kickers "Monster Mash" 02 03 A Taste Of Honey - Boogie Oogie Oogie (1) 03 02 Nick Gilder - Hot Child In The City (1) 01 01 Exile - Kiss You All Over (1)
- Station of the Week: WODC for obvious reasons (KOKZ, which normally airs the four-hour show with all op extras included, went with 1971 this week) - This show originally aired back in 2007 but back then Premiere squeezed in all 40 songs and eliminated any extra content so they can fit the three-hour format; this time, the regular four-hour version (with Hour #1 still optional) aired; it was also AT40's second four-hour regular show as WODC's Mike Eiland notes. - In place of extras that were Bubbling Under the Hot 100, Premiere played Halloween-related extras and though I'm not 100%, with the one exception of "Halloween" (the only extra with Larry Morgan's voiceover included), the other three may have been optional extras back in 2007 - all were voiced by Casey (though there was a brief intro by Larry before "Tubular Bells") - Even though Casey wasn't regularly or semi-regularly listing the chart droppers yet, he did mention Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" as falling off the chart before playing "Double Vision" - Before playing "Who Are You", Casey took time to remember Keith Moon, who passed away on September 7th that year; in fact, there were two recent deaths relating to acts on this very chart - R.I.P. to Rafael Ravenscroft (played Sax on Gerry Rafferty's then-previous hit "Baker Street") and also to Marcia Strassman (John Travolta's co-star on "Welcome Back Kotter") - Olivia Newton-John was back-to-back at #10 and #9 with her "Grease" hits but both were falling; clearly the phenomenon was dying in spite of the soundtrack hitting #1 this week (see below) - Question to those who listened to the WODC airing of this show - don't you think the iHeart Radio Fast Tracks filler (which is described as "Biggest Hits - Half the Time") was necessary?!? - #1 Soul: "One Nation Under A Groove" - Funkadelic - #1 Country: Heartbreaker - #1 Album: Grease Soundtrack

Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Major Tom (Coming Home)" - Peter Schilling (#48) Hour #2: "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" - Elton John (#65; debuted) Hour #3: "Break My Stride" - Matthew Wilder (#49) Hour #4: "Holiday" - Madonna (#88; debuted) Just to clarify, this version of "Major Tom" was partly in English and partly in German, similar to the "99 Luftballons/99 Red Balloons" medley that AT40 played at least twice in 1984.

I remember listening to an original copy of the 11/2/1985 show and I can confirm Casey did not mention the songs that fell out of the countdown that week. On an unrelated note, I have been listening to all AT40 shows when they used the unofficial Mediabase charts from 2000-'01 and although Casey didn't mention droppers regularly during this period so far - I have gone up to 3/17/2001 - there was a three-week stretch in which he did list droppers (2/24, 3/3 and 3/10; also mentioned droppers on 11/18/00, 12/16/00 and 2/3/01). As for the extra notes... Home Sweet Home: Despite the fact it didn't hit the Top 40 (not until it was remixed seven years later), Larry did note it moved up four notches to #91. Party All The Time: A week away from reaching the countdown Burning Heart: Entered the Hot 100 at #64 (Larry also noted the recent death of singer Jimi Jameson in his intro) Say You Say Me: Although it didn't make it's Hot 100 Debut until the following week (at #40), Larry noted it was a week away from hitting the countdown.

This week will mark 1 year ago this week that I was shocked when WLS 94.7 FM Chicago finally dropped after 2 years and 7 and a 1/2 months "American Top 40: The 70's".
Thought I would bring this up though I don't post on this site much anymore.

Well, had I known sooner that this was being re-run, I might have re-posted my first post of this from Page 8. Seeing as I didn't, and that last time had no notes... November 8, 1986 40 -- Gregory Abbott - Shake You Down (1) 39 -- Howard Jones - You Know I Love You...Don't You? (17) 38 -- Talking Heads - Wild Wild Life (25) 37 40 The Pretenders - Don't Get Me Wrong (10) 36 26 Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes (26) 35 28 Glass Tiger - Don't Forget Me (When I'm Gone) (2) LDD: Howard Jones "Life in One Day" by a college student on the rebound from an awful time in her life34 37 OMD - (Forever) Live and Die (19) 33 38 'Til Tuesday - What About Love (26) 32 23 Stacey Q - Two of Hearts (3) 31 39 Ben E. King - Stand By Me (9) Flashback Extra: The Monkees "Daydream Believer", which was up 19 notches to #78 that week30 19 Billy Joel - A Matter of Trust (10) 29 16 Genesis - Throwing it All Away (4) 28 14 Don Johnson - Heartbeat (5) 27 30 Triumph - Somebody's Out There (27)26 32 Steve Winwood - Freedom Overspill (20) 25 36 The Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian (1)24 17 Journey - Girl Can't Help It (17) 23 31 Wang Chung - Everybody Have Fun Tonight (2) 22 29 Billy Idol - To Be a Lover (6) 21 24 Aretha Franklin - Jumpin' Jack Flash (21)20 21 Corey Hart - I Am By Your Side (18) Flashback Extra: Benjamin Orr "Stay the Night", which debuted at #86 that week19 07 Janet Jackson - When I Think of You (1) 18 27 Bruce Hornsby & The Range - The Way it Is (1) 17 10 Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam With Full Force - All Cried Out (8) 16 22 Ric Ocasek - Emotion in Motion (15) 15 25 Huey Lewis & The News - Hip to Be Square (3) 14 20 Lionel Richie - Love Will Conquer All (9) 13 18 Toto - I'll Be Over You (11) 12 15 Peter Cetera & Amy Grant - The Next Time I Fall (1) 11 08 Anita Baker - Sweet Love (8) LDD: John Lennon "Imagine" from John Records to his children, with whom (as well as his wife) he is marching towards Washington, D.C. as part of the Great Peace March aimed at global nuclear disarmament Flashback Extra: Carly Simon "Coming Around Again"10 13 Oran "Juice" Jones - The Rain (9) 09 12 Cameo - Word Up (7) 08 02 Tina Turner - Typical Male (2) 07 11 Bon Jovi - You Give Love a Bad Name (1) 06 09 Eddie Money - Take Me Home Tonight (4) 05 06 Madonna - True Blue (3) 04 05 Human League - Human (1) 03 01 Cyndi Lauper - True Colors (1) Flashback Extra: Janet Jackson "Control", which was "two weeks away from hitting the countdown"02 03 Robert Palmer - I Didn't Mean to Turn You On (2) 01 04 Boston - Amanda (1)The three that fell off the chart were: "Friends and Lovers" by Gloria Loring and Carl Anderson (LW: 35), "Stuck With You" by Huey Lewis & The News, a recent #1 song (LW: 34), and "Heaven in Your Eyes" by Loverboy (LW: 33). NOTES: - Well, after weeks of playing no extras, this week WCRZ played all but the last one. Last time, they played only the first, which was Duran Duran's "Notorious". Actually, none of the four extras from last time - Notorious, Welcome to the Boomtown, At This Moment, Land of Confusion - repeat.
- Casey mentioned that "Shake You Down" was moving up a few notches to debut at #40.
- Most likely because I never paid much attention, but I hadn't realized that "Daydream Believer" saw a 1986 re-release...sort of. As Larry Morgan stated, it was remixed. In any case, funny how this would be charting alongside re-recordings of The Police's "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4".
- The second LDD is quite interesting, not only for its subject, but for it's the very thing that Casey took the previous week off for, as he states in this week's opening.
- #1 on the Album chart: Third Stage by Boston
- #1 on the Country chart: "Diggin' Up Bones" by Randy Travis
- #1 on the Soul chart: "A Little Bit More" by Melba Moore & Freddie Jackson
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Human"

Another thing I found interesting was that early in the show Casey had to correct an earlier answer to a listener question about acts hitting #1 with famous cities in their names. He mentioned that he overlooked the Kingston Trio, for "Tom Dooley" (a piece of which was heard here.) Then at the end of the show he has to add another one to the list. :)

I didn't even remember Triumph finally had scored a top 30 hit. They were active on bottom half of Hot 100 since 1970s

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to do without American Top 40: The '80s for a few weeks. [...] No silly plugs here for a while then, huh?

- Station of the Week: KOKZ (my go-to station with WODC playing Christmas music and Casey specials at this time) - FYI, of the four regular extras that Casey played (including Beatles and Rolling Stones, what are the odds? :))), only the Stones and James Taylor extras went unteased prior. - For all intents and purposes, Casey only played the "Sgt. Pepper" portion of the Beatles extra listed above and not the Ringo-led "With A Little Help From My Friends" which followed (although three years later, Casey would play the full medley as part of the AT40 special "Top 40 Beatles hits - Together and Apart" special) - Casey noted that Chic had the third biggest moving Top 40 record in the rock era (at the time). Only David Seville's "Witch Doctor" (1958) and Elvis Presley's "Are You Lonesome Tonight" (1960) had bigger jumps. - The "Long Distance Dedication" jingle was used for both LDDs and as far as the first LDD is concerned, Emma asked Casey to play her request loud. Hopefully Casey was able to oblige. :) - #1 Soul: I'm Every Woman - #1 Country: "Sweet Desire/Old Fashioned Love" - The Kendalls - #1 Album: 52nd Street - Billy Joel
