And now, for the first time in Classic AT40 history, Premiere has offered two regular 1980's countdowns in one week. Affiliates will have the option of airing at least one of the two shows (not sure if there's an affiliate like WODC willing enough to find the time to air both shows but...). Without further delay. The "A" show is from 1/18/1986. It had previously aired back in 2011. Here was my preview from back then with Biggest Mover/Dropper added: Only two songs debuted this week: "Sara" - Starship (#39) "Silent Running" - Mike & The Mechanics (#40) Two songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Emergency" - Kool & The Gang (#24) "Object Of My Desire" - Starpoint (#32) Biggest Mover (tie): "When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going" - Billy Ocean (#26 to #16) "Kyrie" - Mr. Mister (#39 to #29) Biggest Dropper: "Election Day" - Arcadia (#15 to #35) Original extras: None Long Distance Dedications: "Through The Years" - Kenny Rogers "I'm Alive" - Electric Light Orchestra Premiere optional extras (all four songs debuted on the Hot 100 this week): "King For A Day" - Thompson Twins (#52; highest debut) "What You Need" - INXS (#96) "This Could Be The Night" - Loverboy (#87) "These Dreams" - Heart (#54) The "B" show is from 1/19/1980. It had previously aired back in 2010. Here was my initial preview with some minor additions: Seven songs made their debuts this week: Daydream Believer - Anne Murray (#28) Why Me - Styx (#32) Longer - Dan Fogelberg (#35) You Know That I Love You - Santana (#36) Voices - Cheap Trick (#37) September Morn' - Neil Diamond (#39) Do You Love What You Feel - Rufus and Chaka (Khan) (#40) Seven songs fell off this week: You're Only Lonely - J.D. Souther (#23) I Want You Tonight - deleted Cruise (#25) Chiquitita - Abba (#29) Take The Long Way Home - Supertramp (#35) Rapper's Delight - Sugarhill Gang (#36) I'd Rather Leave While I'm In Love - Rita Coolidge (#38) Train, Train - Blackfoot (#39) Biggest Mover: "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" - Queen (#30 to #18) Biggest Dropper: "Still" - The Commodores (#6 to #22) Original extras: I Can't Help Myself - The Four Tops Long Distance Dedications: Makin' It - David Naughton Short People - Randy Newman Archive extras: Car Wash - Rose Royce Torn Between Two Lovers - Mary MacGregor Blinded By The Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band Premiere optional extras: Another Brick In The Wall - Pink Floyd (#77; debuted) 99 - Toto (#55) Working My Way Back To You/Forgive Me Girl - The Spinners (#48) Heartbreaker - Pat Benatar (#54) Get ready for more chaos in 2015, folks. :)

Yippie! Kind of hoping I can find 1/19/80 this weekend, as I actually missed that one the first time. 1/18/86... not so much. ;)

Yeah, they've done February 1986 shows the past two years, but I had to miss both of those due to conferences (and it wasn't until 9-19-87, a few months ago, that I was able to really utilize streaming). This left me with nothing between 12-7-85 and 4-19-86, until now.
- No softer jingles this week, not even for "Broken Wings".
- There were quite a few detailed stories about people not in the countdown this week: A "Whatever Happened to...?" on Dodie Stevens leading into #37, the story of the Russian dancer who starred in White Nights who defected from the Soviet Union and who can't return there for fear of being arrested leading into the movie's song at #19, the story of the first recording to sell one million copies (in 1918!) leading into #3. And then, of course, there's the week's LDDs.
- Casey erred in the intro to "Living in America", saying it was climbing four notches to #36. He also shortchanged Sade a little, saying they moved up five notches when they really moved up six. Oops! ;)
- #1 on the Album chart: Miami Vice soundtrack
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Say You, Say Me"
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Go Home"
- #1 on the Country chart: "Bop" by Dan Seals

Hi everybody, Happy 2015! New user here, was wondering if you could throw some light on how to find the American Top 40 show from February 7, 1987? I assume it was only released on vinyl? A digital version would be fine as well.

OK, we're in for a double whammy on Super Bowl weekend. Two weekends ago, Premiere offered two '80s shows for the first time ever (although I'm not sure if any affiliate bothered to air the show from 1/19/1980 but I digress). Now, for the first time ever, Premiere is offering two '70s shows AND two '80s shows on the same weekend and because of that this weekend's preview is definitely a two-parter. And my '70s preview will start first. This weekend's "A" show is from 2/3/1979. Three songs debuted this week: "Every Time I Think Of You" - The Babys (#37) "What You Won't Do For Love" - Bobby Caldwell (#38) "You Thrill Me" - Exile (#40) Three songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Sharing The Night Together" - Dr. Hook (#34) "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away" - Andy Gibb (#35) "You Need A Woman Tonight" - Captain & Tennille (#40) Biggest Mover: "I Will Survive" - Gloria Gaynor (#20 to #10) Biggest Dropper: "Ooh Baby Baby" - Linda Ronstadt (#7 to #25) Original extras: "This Guy's In Love With You" - Herb Alpert "Louie Louie" - The Kingsmen "That Lady" - The Isley Brothers "New Kid In Town" - The Eagles Long Distance Dedications: "The Way We Were" - Barbra Streisand "Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast" - Wayne Newton Archive extras: "Oh Girl" - The Chi-Lites "I'll Take You There" - The Staple Singers "The Candy Man" - Sammy Davis Jr. Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "I Just Fall In Love Again" - Anne Murray (#49) Hour #2: "Dog And Butterfly" - Heart (#82; highest debut) Hour #3: "Every Which Way But Loose" - Eddie Rabbitt (#63) Hour #4: "Crazy Love" - Poco (#48) The "B" show this week is from 2/2/1974 which aired back in 2010. Here is an altered preview of that show. Three songs debuted that week: "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" - The Rolling Stones (#22) "Sexy Mama" - The Moments (#36) "Dark Lady" - Cher (#40) Three songs would fall out this week: "Sister Mary Elephant (Shudd-Up)" - Cheech & Chong (#26) "Hello It's Me" - Todd Rundgren (#38) "Rockin' Roll Baby" - The Stylistics (#39) Please also note there were two versions of "Americans" in the Top 40 that week. Byron MacGregor's version at #5 and Gordon Sinclair's version #26. Only the Sinclair version gets played this week. Biggest Mover: "Boogie Down" - Eddie Kendricks (#36 to #19) Biggest Dropper: "Walk Like A Man" - Grand Funk Railroad (#19 to #38) Original extras: "Don't Mess Around With Jim" - Jim Croce This song will be included in the broadcast. Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Seasons In The Sun" - Terry Jacks (#49) Hour #2: "Come & Get Your Love" - Redbone (#51) Hour #3: "Sunshine On My Shoulders" - John Denver (#77) My '80s preview is coming up soon.

Falling out to make room for them are: "Love is Forever" by Billy Ocean (LW: 38), "War" by Bruce Springsteen (LW: 35), "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King (LW: 31), and "The Way it Is" by Bruce Hornsby & The Range (LW: 27). NOTES: - Oh, joy...this week's show gives me flashbacks to the following week (aired in 2009). Among other instances, someone explain to me the logic in shortening three of the newest songs ("Mandolin Rain", "Brand New Lover", "I Wanna Go Back") and not the 17-notch-dropping "Everybody Have Fun Tonight"? (The week's biggest dropper at that, though Casey didn't say so.)
- Speaking of "Mandolin Rain", that received the standard jingle, while "Jimmy Lee", an uptempo, received the softer one. Yayyy, more logic.
- Yes, "Somewhere Out There" gets requested as a LDD in its second week in the countdown. Unusual as that is, the song had been around for a few months up to this point due to An American Tail, which was released the previous fall. (And for that matter, based on the letter, its dedicator is likely a teen.) More unusual? "Lost in Your Eyes" by Debbie Gibson would have this same thing happen on 2-4-89, only that song was just three weeks old when that happened!
- That first segment in the third hour was rather unusual - the second LDD was teased at the end of the second hour, then two songs played before we got to the LDD. That would happen from time to time when Casey returned to AT40 in 1998, but did that ever happen any other time during the original AT40 era? Incidentally, that second LDD wasn't indicated as such on the cue sheet.
- Story behind "Let's Dance" as an Extra: Casey gave a retrospective of David Bowie's career up to now.
- #1 on the Album chart: Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi
- #1 on the Country chart: "You Still Move Me" by Dan Seals
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Candy" by Cameo
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Come Go With Me" (not read by Casey, but Larry Morgan did mention that it was spending its second week there)

- Station of the Week: KOKZ (by default because WODC in Columbus - the same Columbus referenced in LDD #2 - is just starting to air 1979 just as I type when many of us are busy watching football at that) - The story behind Herb Alpert's song as an extra had to do with how all but one of his Top 40 hits were instrumentals yet his biggest hit (up to this point and time) was not. Alpert initially sang the song during a TV special at the insistence of his producer and later released said song as a single after many people requested the song. - Also interesting was the fact that Casey followed up a teaser story on John Belushi by playing "Louie Louie" as an extra (unteased BTW) not long afterwards. In fact, Casey mentioned Belushi had his own cover version from "National Lampoon's Animal House" (since I never saw the movie, I'll take his word for it). - If you loved "The Way We Were" (the song or even the movie), chances were your '70s affiliate aired one AT40 with the song this week - it hit #1 in the "B" show offering from 2/2/1974. - The "Long Distance Dedication" jingle played before both LDDs - "Le Freak" spent it's fifth (non-consecutive) week at #1 at this time yet as Casey said not many people were dancing to this song unlike previous dance-related #1 songs ("The Twist", "The Hustle" et al) due to the suggestiveness of said song. - #1 Soul: "Aqua Boogie" - Parliament - #1 Country: "Why Have You Left The One You Left Me For" - Crystal Gayle - #1 Disco: "I Will Survive/Anybody Wanna Party/I Said Yes" - Gloria Gaynor - #1 Album: Briefcase Full of Blues - The Blues Brothers

I hope Shannon Lynn tries to get this ready as soon as possible! UPDATE: Well, according to the AT40/AT20 Fun and Games forums, the next weekend AT40: The 70's offerings and AT40: The 80's offerings are 2 shows each, but for AT40: The 80's it's not the September 12, 1981 episode guest hosted by Gary Owens in memory of his death, unless sometime early in the week Premiere at the last minute offers a C/Bonus show of that AT40 September 12, 1981 Gary Owens guest host episode (If it happens, then there would be 5 classic AT40 episodes for the Feb. 21-22, 2015 weekend with 2 AT40: The 70's offerings and 3 AT40: The 80's offerings!)

Wouldn't really complain, as I happen to have this show, and it's a good one. But, I'm not sure I see them offering it at any point, because...Dick Clark got the nod because he was so well-known to everyone. The same can't quite be said for Gary Owens, at least not to Dick Clark's level.

NOTES: - This week's Station of the Week: WTOJ.
- This week's show has an "of the moment" feel in spots...there's an update on George Harrison, with George thinking he might never return to music again, only to do just that two years later. My area Pop station, WIOG, was also mentioned as an affiliate, still at its then-home of 106; it would move to 102.5 the following year.
- I believe we might have a record here for most #1s from Billboard's other charts read in one week - can anyone think of any other week where he read as many as five?
- #1 on the Country chart: "Make My Life With You" by The Oak Ridge Boys
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Mr. Telephone Man"
- #1 on the Dance & Disco chart: "Smalltown Boy" by Bronski Beat
- #1 on the Jazz chart: Hot House Flowers by Wynton Marsalis
- #1 on the Album chart: Like a Virgin by Madonna

Wouldn't really complain, as I happen to have this show, and it's a good one. But, I'm not sure I see them offering it at any point, because...Dick Clark got the nod because he was so well-known to everyone. The same can't quite be said for Gary Owens, at least not to Dick Clark's level. Shows what I know. It's being offered next week.
