At least one re-telling of it would come five years later, on 7-16-88.
- Maybe it's just me...but "Tell Her No" makes kind of an eerie lead-in to that first LDD. Casey's tease for it mentions the "no fraternization" rule, so "Tell Her No" seems to come off as advice for what to tell the LDD writer.
- Speaking of that song, though, that would have an unusually sudden disappearance from The 40: Next week - hosted by CVD - it would step up to #27, then the week after: Gone!
- Story behind "Yellow Submarine" as an Extra: Casey told of how it was recorded with various sounds, including John Lennon blowing bubbles through a straw.
- #1 on the Country chart: "Baby What About You" by Crystal Gayle
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Cold Blooded"
- #1 on the Album chart: Synchronicity by The Police

The six that drop out are: "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams (LW: 35), "There Must Be an Angel" by Eurythmics (LW: 33), "I Got You Babe" by UB40 with Chrissie Hynde (LW: 32), "You're Only Human" by Billy Joel (LW: 27), "Smokin' in the Boys Room" by Motley Crue (LW: 26), and "Freeway of Love" by Aretha Franklin (LW: 23). NOTES: - "Never" has the single version played.
- Did this week have one #1 Dance song, or two? Casey mistakenly refers to "Dare Me" as the #1 Dance song when it plays, but then later reads the correct one, "Be Near Me". This is made even more egregious when considering that "Dare Me" was the top Dance song two weeks prior.
- LDDs that were a response to prior LDDs would happen every now and then...what makes this one notable, in this case, is due to the one that prompted this one also airing four weeks back.
- Speaking of which, add "You're Only Human" to the list of songs as LDDs on their drop week - and that's actually the second in 1985, after "Missing You" on 5-11.

Among the highlights of Roy's early career was touring England with the Beatles (yes, them) as a warm-up act. - The final segment of Hour #3 - containing in no order songs #13 and #12, the Chicago LDD and the Glen Campbell Archive feature - clocked in at 15:41, according to Pete Battistini's "AT40: The '70s" book. Undoubtedly, the longest segment in the original Casey Kasem (1970-'88) era. I'm sure Ryan Seacrest has had slightly longer segments on occasion.
#1 Soul: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough #1 Country: "Last Cheater's Waltz" - T.G. Sheppard #1 Disco: Come To Me #1 Album: In Through The Out Door - Led Zeppelin

- #1 on the Soul chart: "You Are My Lady"
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Be Near Me"
- #1 on the Country chart: "Lost in the Fifties Tonight" by Ronnie Milsap
- #1 on the Album chart: Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits
A Jackson station was mentioned on American Top 40: The '80s: WTYX (now WJLV).

NOTES: - This week's Station of the Week: CKPE. They played Canadian "extras" after each of Premiere's extras: "Diana" by Bryan Adams (the B-side to "Heaven"), "My Girl" by Chilliwack, "Hold On" by Santana (which is actually a cover originally done by Canadian Ian Thomas), and from earlier in '87, "Soul City" by The Partland Brothers (played right after the show ended).
- It's only mentioned for one of them, but all four Premiere extras this week debuted on the Hot 100 this week. IIRC, the last time that happened was with 1-18-86, two years ago.
- Note the underline for "In My Dreams", which I only use for songs that we won't hear any higher than indicated even though it's not their peak. 10-24 was the guest-hosted show in October 1987, but "In My Dreams" would go 22-22-19-22 during this point of its run.
- #1 on the Country chart: "The Way We Make a Broken Heart" by Rosanne Cash
- #1 on the Album chart: Bad by Michael Jackson
- #1 on the Soul chart: "(You're Puttin') A Rush on Me" by Stephanie Mills

Oops. I slipped.
Turn to page 68 of this thread for my original 1987 preview. As Libra pointed out, it's all the same.

OOPS!
- This week has a not-quite instance of deja vu; there's a Question Letter asking what songs had spent the most weeks on the Hot 100, and Casey lists the Top 5. Just last week in the '85 show, a similar letter had asked what the longest-running songs were by a man and by a woman.
- Well, maybe two actually...another Question Letter asked who had the most #1s on the Country chart, during which a droppiece of "It's Only Make Believe" was played. I know there's another show with a story that had that played, I just can't remember which show it is.
- Another one from the "AT40 Goes to the Movies" files: And this is kind of interesting given all the movie songs in the previous week's (10-4-80, not 10-5-85) survey...this week, the third Archive is "Hey Baby", which is featured in Dirty Dancing, whose climactic #1 smash "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" is the highest debut over on the B show's survey.
- This marks the first time a medley has been compiled as an Extra for a regular countdown; a Madonna medley was done for the Triathlon of Rock & Roll special back in May. Though why they'd do that for a regular countdown, I'd like to know...
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Funkin' For Jamaica" by Tom Browne
- #1 on the Country chart: "Loving Up a Storm" by Razzy Bailey
- #1 on the Album chart: The Game by Queen

It seems to me that they are going to the 84 countdowns more than other years or is it just me?

It seems to me that they are going to the 84 countdowns more than other years or is it just me? So far this year, 1983 has the most 1980s AT40s played as the main "A" shows, with 7. There have been 6 from 1984. Those are the only two 80s years that are offered without "B" alternatives, so they may seem like they're played even more than they are, as they are also at times offered as B's when shows from earlier or later in the decade are A's.

'84' was one of the best years of the 80s. Big albums from The Cars, Culture Clube, Billy idol, The Police, Bruce Springsteen, Prince dominated the charts.

The five that fall out are: "The Lucky One" by Laura Branigan (LW: 39), "Shine Shine" by Barry Gibb (LW: 37), "When You Close Your Eyes" by Night Ranger (LW: 36), "Torture" by The Jacksons (LW: 34), and "The Last Time I Made Love" by Joyce Kennedy & Jeffrey Osborne (LW: 40). NOTES: - Get a load of the big drops this week - six of 'em!
- Dirty Dancing extends its influence this week; an early story on Phil Spector includes a droppiece of The Ronettes' "Be My Baby".
- Casey referred to "Eye of the Tiger" as the biggest hit of 1982 in his intro for Survivor - we may yet get proof in a couple months that is contrary to that claim. ;)
- Casey indicated that they were playing "a part" of "Hell is For Children", but having not heard the full song (and given that it clocks in at a not-unreasonable 4:48), it doesn't seem like whatever edit was too severe.
- Story behind "How Do I Make You" as an Extra: Casey tells the story of what happened to one George Dillard four years prior - apparently, his false teeth were able to act as a radio receiver, and thus he spontaneously began hearing songs playing without the actual radio around! This all began with a Linda Ronstadt song, said to be "How Do I Make You".
- #1 on the Country chart: "I Don't Know a Thing About Love" by Conway Twitty
- #1 on the Soul chart: "I Just Called to Say I Love You"
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Swept Away"
- #1 on the Album chart: Purple Rain by Prince
