^^ Just for informational purposes only, the July 4, 1976 AT40 special is only airing on 1 station and is not an official offering from Premiere. The station that is airing it will also air its on special immediately after, which continues the countdown of songs that were #1 on July 4 (although it switches from the Hot 100 to AC in 1992).

"The Edge of Heaven", which made the Hot Shot Debut that week at #4720 11 Madonna - Live to Tell (1) 19 32 Peter Cetera - Glory of Love (1)18 23 The Pet Shop Boys - Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money) (10) 17 13 Boys Don't Cry - I Wanna Be a Cowboy (12) 16 07 George Michael - A Different Corner (7) 15 21 GTR - When the Heart Rules the Mind (14) 14 19 .38 Special - Like No Other Night (14)13 17 Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Like a Rock (12) 12 18 The Moody Blues - Your Wildest Dreams (9) 11 15 The Fabulous Thunderbirds - Tuff Enuff (10) 10 14 Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone (2) Flashback Extra: The Timex Social Club "Rumors"09 10 Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer (1) 08 01 Patti LaBelle & Michael McDonald - On My Own (1) LDD: Mike & The Mechanics "All I Need is a Miracle" from 13-year-old Dawn in Carterville, MO to her mother Linda and her recently-found long lost brother Mark, who she'd been separated from for their whole lives due to Mark being given up for adoption, until they reunited back in May07 03 The Jets - Crush on You (3) 06 08 Genesis - Invisible Touch (1) 05 09 Janet Jackson - Nasty (3) 04 05 Howard Jones - No One is to Blame (4) 03 06 El DeBarge - Who's Johnny (3)Flashback Extra: Bananarama "Venus"02 04 Simply Red - Holding Back the Years (1) 01 02 Billy Ocean - There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry) (1)This week, three hits fell out of the countdown to make way for three debuts. Dropping out are: "Out of Mind, Out of Sight" by The Models (LW: 38), "If You Leave" by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (LW: 37), and "All I Need is a Miracle" by Mike & The Mechanics (LW: 34). NOTES: - Interesting that Casey opened by marking America's birthday, when he didn't do that the following year (which had a show right on the 4th).
- Not a particularly great week for "Mad About You"; both "Love Touch" and "Glory of Love" jump over it. What's interesting about that is, as noted above, while Peter would outpeak Belinda, Rod wouldn't.
- Equally odd, is "Nasty" managing to jump over "Invisible Touch" inside the Top 10, when it's the latter that was on its way to #1.
- No softer jingle this week - not for "Live to Tell", not for "No One is to Blame" (not even with that following an obituary for Benny Goodman!).
- Between #15 and #14 was a correction that involved playing a droppiece of Frankie Avalon's "Why". Yes, the same song that kicks off the 60s Archives and otherwise should be played in this weekend's "B" show 6-28-80, but isn't, thanks to Premiere... >:(
- Add "All I Need is a Miracle" to the list of songs that were LDDs on the week they fell off.
- Control by Janet Jackson
- #1 on the Country chart: "Everything That Glitters" by Dan Seals
- #1 on the Soul chart: "There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)"

Well, for this coming weekend, the 80s will look...a little something like this: :) July 7, 1984 40 -- Robin Gibb - Boys Do Fall in Love (37) 39 34 The Alan Parsons Project - Prime Time (34) 38 38 Michael Jackson - Farewell My Summer Love (38)37 -- Sergio Mendes - Alibis (29) 36 -- Steve Perry - She's Mine (21) 35 14 Culture Club - It's a Miracle (13)34 36 Eddy Grant - Romancing the Stone (26) 33 -- Lionel Richie - Stuck on You (3) 32 37 Peabo Bryson - If Ever You're in My Arms Again (10) 31 39 Van Halen - Panama (13) 30 33 Corey Hart - Sunglasses at Night (7) Flashback Extra: Scandal Featuring Patty Smyth "The Warrior", which was two weeks away from hitting the Top 4029 23 Night Ranger - Sister Christian (5) 28 32 Kenny Loggins - I'm Free (Heaven Helps the Man) (22) 27 31 Tina Turner - What's Love Got to Do With It (1) LDD: The Little River Band "It's a Long Way There" from Joe in Oklahoma City to the Hobbs family in Australia, who adopted dwarf child David (they themselves were also dwarves)26 27 Rick Springfield - Don't Walk Away (26)25 26 Jefferson Starship - No Way Out (23) 24 28 Dan Hartman - I Can Dream About You (6) 23 16 Chicago - Stay the Night (16) 22 22 Van Stephenson - Modern Day Delilah (22)21 30 The Jacksons - State of Shock (3) 20 25 Ollie & Jerry - Breakin...There's No Stoppin' Us (9) Flashback Extra: John Waite "Missing You", which was "bubbling under the Top 40"19 29 Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters (1)18 11 Steve Perry - Oh Sherrie (3) 17 20 Elton John - Sad Songs (Say So Much) (5) 16 19 Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days (16)15 12 Madonna - Borderline (10) 14 18 Rod Stewart - Infatuation (6) 13 17 Thompson Twins - Doctor! Doctor! (11) 12 15 The Cars - Magic (12)11 09 Deniece Williams - Let's Hear it For the Boy (1) 10 13 ZZ Top - Legs (8) Flashback Extra: Billy Squier "Rock Me Tonite", which was the highest debut that week at #5109 06 Huey Lewis & The News - The Heart of Rock & Roll (6) 08 10 Mike Reno & Ann Wilson - Almost Paradise (7) 07 07 Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time (1) 06 08 Billy Idol - Eyes Without a Face (4) 05 01 Duran Duran - The Reflex (1) 04 04 Laura Branigan - Self Control (4)LDD: Barry Manilow "Weekend in New England" from Pat in Argentina to Dave at Stanford University to let him know that she's still thinking of him03 05 The Pointer Sisters - Jump (For My Love) (3)Flashback Extra: Sheila E. "The Glamorous Life", which was two weeks away from hitting the Top 4002 02 Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark (2) 01 03 Prince & The Revolution - When Doves Cry (1)NOTES: - Premiere has seen fit to give us 1984 again rather quickly - how quickly, you ask? Well, last time Duran Duran was just a week away from hitting #1. This time, they're losing #1. (Ouch. ;))
- Also last time, Rick Springfield jumped over Dan Hartman in the 40. This week, the reverse happens (and Rick's peaking).
- That's a pretty steep drop for Culture Club this week...but it's not the biggest drop ever recorded within the Top 40. What is that drop, you ask? Well, Casey answered a question letter asking that very question, and that distinction belongs to "They're Coming to Take Me Away Ha-Haaa" by Napoleon XIV, from 1966. That song recorded a drop of 32 big notches, from #5...all the way down to #37.
- As an aside, Culture Club's drop is actually bigger than the Eurythmics' drop out of the 40...as they fell to 41, for a drop of one notch less.
- WCRZ had a somewhat sexist preference this week...they played both of the extras voiced by female singers, but neither of the male-voiced ones. WIDL obviously played all four.
- #1 on the Album chart: Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen
- #1 on the Country chart: "Somebody's Needin' Somebody" by Conway Twitty
And, pulling a hat trick... - #1 on the Dance & Disco chart: "When Doves Cry"
- #1 on the Soul chart: "When Doves Cry"

Well, all I have to do now is preview the '70s I guess. This week is one regular show and another bonus show. The regular show is from 7/12/1975 which previously aired in 2013. Here was my repost from then. Six songs debuted this week: "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" - Elton John (#25) "Mornin' Beautiful" - Tony Orlando & Dawn (#34) "Fight The Power Pt. 1" - The Isley Brothers (#36) "Just A Little Bit Of You" - Michael Jackson (#38) "At Seventeen" - Janis Ian (#39) "Sweet Emotion" - Aerosmith (#40) Six songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "I'll Play For You (Hear The Band)" - Seals & Crofts (#29) "Baby That's Backatcha" - Smokey Robinson (#31) "Philadelphia Freedom" - The Elton John Band (#34) "Bad Time" - Grand Funk Railroad (#35) "The Last Farewell" - Roger Whitaker (#36) "Bad Luck (Part 1)" - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes (#37) Biggest Mover (tie): "It's All Down To Goodnight Vienna" - Ringo Starr (#39 to #31) "Disco Queen" - Hot Chocolate (#40 to #32) Biggest Dropper: "I'm Not Lisa" - Jessi Colter (#7 to #18) Original Extras: None Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Landslide" - Fleetwood Mac (NR) Hour #2: "Fame" - David Bowie (#67) Hour #3: "Get Down Tonight" - KC & The Sunshine Band (#94; debuted) And the bonus show for this week is actually a regular countdown - the long-lost second episode of AT40 (aired on WTOJ last year but syndicated by Premiere for the first time this year). Why they didn't bother giving the 1970 show "A" show designation and the re-aired 1975 show "B" show designation is beyond me. Two songs debuted this week: "Lay A Little Lovin' On Me" - Robin McNamara (#37) "Steal Away" - Johnnie Taylor (#38) Two songs fell off this week: "Everything Is Beautiful" - Ray Stevens (#29) "Spirit In The Dark" - Aretha Franklin (#38) Biggest Mover: "Spill The Wine" - Eric Burdon & War (#38 to #24) Biggest Dropper: "Sugar, Sugar" - Wilson Pickett (#25 to #39) Original extras: "It's Not Unusual" - Tom Jones "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" - Herman's Hermits "In The Year 2525" - Zager & Evans "I'm Sorry" - Brenda Lee Note: The Zager & Evans extra will remain in the show while the Tom Jones, Herman's Hermits and Brenda Lee songs will be featured as optional extras in that order.

(Thankfully, they let me know about it in a reply to my message on their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/1057kokz or, I would have missed it.) - As usual, KOKZ played all of the optional extras. - Although my over-the-air reception of KOKZ is sometimes spotty, this program was consistently clear. Plus, their traffic timing was much better than usual, with very few if any collisions of station IDs and program rejoiners. They even ran out the closing theme to the end. My only gripe—a minor one!—is that the rejoiners typically came in attenuated, as if KOKZ's (loud?) station IDs trigger some sort of auto-gain control.

All right, this weekend there are TWO '70s shows and TWO '80s shows being featured which means once again my weekend preview will be a two-parter. Starting with the '70s first. Oops (need to check Pete's book when researching these shows). It's been deleted and presumably replaced by "Honky Cat" which would explain its' placement (similar to when Premiere replaced a George Harrison album cut with "What Is Life" for a 1971 show earlier in the year).

Elton John's "Salvation" was an extra in the original show, from the week's #1 album "Honky Chateau". (Two weeks later it was played again as #1 on the same basis, when Casey did a special countdown of the week's top 40 albums.) Does it stay in place? Oops (need to check Pete's book when researching these shows). It's been deleted and presumably replaced by "Honky Cat" which would explain its' placement (similar to when Premiere replaced a George Harrison album cut with "What Is Life" for a 1971 show earlier in the year). I believe Ken Martin is taking the mono shows and replacing the songs with stereo versions and doing a little tinkering in the process. And from a PDs point of view, "Honky Cat" is obviously a much better choice than a song that your average listener has never heard.

NOTES: - Now, one from the "Increasing Returns" files: Yes, a reverse of "diminishing returns" weeks. This week sees six droppers that take but one single Top 5 hit with them, with none of the rest even reaching the Top 20. The six debuts bring two Top 5s, a #10, and a #11 among them.
- Is it just me, or does it seem like something was very odd with how "Pop Life" was produced here? The vocals and backing music didn't seem like they were in sync, and the music was particularly louder than the vocals, which were also harder to hear.
- Casey notes "Shout" as making the most powerful move in the countdown - a distinction I'd definitely agree with - but, note that it's not the week's Biggest; "You're Only Human" (though unannounced) beats it by one notch.
- #1 on the Album chart: Songs From the Big Chair by Tears For Fears
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Glow" by Rick James
- #1 on the Country chart: "Love Don't Care" by Earl Thomas Conley
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Save Your Love" by Rene & Angela

I listened to American Top 40: The '80s (the "A" show) this morning. :)
For the second time, I heard the Rock Remix of Aretha Franklin's Freeway of Love (it's great!). I even recorded the song...for the second time. :)

Due to an interesting development occurring this weekend, I've decided to post the previews for next weekend's (8/13 - 8/14) AT40 shows earlier than normal as you will see later on. Next weekend has one '80s show but two '70s shows so once again (because Premiere loves to torture us with at least two shows of one decade nearly every week) my preview will be a two-parter and I'm starting with the one '80s show first. "AT40: The '80s" presents 8/11/1984, a show that aired twice in 2009 and in 2012. Here's my repost from 2012 Five songs debuted this week: "Drive" - The Cars (#34) "Let's Go Crazy" - Prince & The Revolution (#35) "Cruel Summer" - Bananarama (#37) "My Oh My" - Slade (#39) "Right By Your Side" - The Eurythmics (#40) Five songs fell out of the Top 40 this week: "Doctor! Doctor!" - Thompson Twins (#14) "Magic" - The Cars (#20) "Romancing The Stone" - Eddy Grant (#27) "The Reflex" - Duran Duran (#35) "10-9-8" - Face To Face (#38) Biggest Mover: "She Bop" - Cyndi Lauper (#34 to #20) Biggest Dropper: "Almost Paradise" - Mike Reno & Ann Wilson (#18 to #38) Original extras: "Respect" - Aretha Franklin Long Distance Dedications: "Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)" - Phil Collins "You Light Up My Life" - Debby Boone Premiere optional extras: Hour #1: "Cover Me" - Bruce Springsteen (#52; highest debut) Hour #2: "Go Insane" - Lindsey Buckingham (#50) Hour #3: "The Lucky One" - Laura Branigan (#51) Hour #4: "Hard Habit To Break" - Chicago (#46) '70s preview is coming shortly.
