Sorry to get personal there. - In this show, Casey mentions this is the first time in a while that Alicia Bridges is not back-to-back with Crystal Gayle. The last time Alicia and Crystal were not this close on the chart was 9/9 (Alicia's first week and Crystal's second week). - #1 Soul: One Nation Under A Groove - #1 Country: "Sleeping Single In A Double Bed" - Barbara Mandrell - #1 Album: Living In The U.S.A. - Linda Ronstadt

I've been late with the weekend preview. Had a really, crazy week but we're back to just one show per decade for the rest of the year as evidenced by this weekend's lineup (and only one post instead of two)
"AT40: The '70s" this week presents 11/13/1971. This show had previously aired in 2008 and 2009.
Six songs debuted this week: "Family Affair" - Sly & The Family Stone (#21) "All I Ever Need Is You" - Sonny & Cher (#33) "Respect Yourself" - Staple Singers (#37) "Scorpio" - Dennis Coffey (#38) "What Are You Doing Sunday" - Dawn (#39) "Cherish" - David Cassidy (#40)
Six songs fell off this week: "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" - Paul & Linda McCartney (#26) "Birds Of A Feather" - The Raiders (#35) "Women's Love Rights" - Laura Lee (#36) "Lovin' Her Was Easier (Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again)" - Kris Kristofferson (#37) "Stagger Lee" - Tommy Roe (#38) "Charity Ball" - Fanny (#40)
Biggest Mover: "Got To Be There" - Michael Jackson (#26 to #13) Biggest Dropper: "Trapped By A Thing Called Love" - Denise LaSalle (#13 to #35)
Original extras: "Hello, Dolly!" - Louis Armstrong "Poor Side Of Town" - Johnny Rivers "Everything's Coming Our Way" - Santana Technically, all three songs will be played as optional extras this week (and in the exact order listed hourwise) but Premiere swapped the Santana extra with "No One To Depend On" (the third time this year Premiere swapped an artist's #1 album cut with a more notable song, having done similar practice with George Harrison and Elton John)
"AT40: The '80s" this week presents 11/14/1981. This show previously aired in 2008.
Five songs debuted this week: "Yesterday's Songs" - Neil Diamond (#34) "Heart Like A Wheel" - Steve Miller Band (#36) "Never Too Much" - Luther Vandross (#37) "Steal The Night" - Stevie Woods (#39) "I Want You, I Need You" - Chris Christian (#40)
Five songs fell off this week: "Super Freak" - Rick James (#24) "She's A Bad Mama Jama (She's Built, She's Stacked)" - Carl Carlton (#26) "Atlanta Lady" - Marty Balin (#27) "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" - Stevie Nicks with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (#32) "Promises In The Dark" - Pat Benatar (#38)
Biggest Mover: "Don't Stop Believin'" - Journey (#40 to #28) Biggest Dropper: "Share Your Love With Me" - Kenny Rogers (#23 to #38)
Original extras: None

Technical point: the 1971 Christmas show, prior to its 2013 airing, underwent a makeover compliments of Ken Martin, program director of WTOJ, Carthage NY (who's imparted considerable 'magic' to the classic Casey shows over the past four years or so)... the 'missing' songs were put back, a few others were replaced with different artists' versions, and the opt-extras were newer tunes. Was that fact ever covered here?

Maybe this should be in a "Misheard Lyrics" thread, but the second Long Distance Dedication in this week's 1984 show was for "Welcome To Hard Life", from a listener who appreciated the "hard life" of farming. Casey and company apparently appreciated the letter enough to use it and translate the title into the Kenny Loggins song.

Of note: Premiere has restored The Guess Who's "Share The Land" at #30 (Casey originally skipped it for some unbeknownst reason) and to make room. Big thanks to Ken Martin at WTOJ in New York for doing that. When I first heard this show in 2010, I couldn't figure out why a chart song was passed over when there was time to play an extra. Ken has also done wonders to Casey's 1971 and 1973 Christmas shows in terms of inserting the missing songs yet making it sound like Casey had introduced them all along. Reminds me a little of what was done in the new Star Wars movie.

In the original show, they announced #30 was removed so they could have time to play BOTH #1 songs of that week, in this case My Sweet Lord/Isn't It A Pity

King - Stand By Me (9)* 08 11 Bruce Springsteen - War (8) LDD: USA For Africa "We Are the World" from 13-year-old Linna in Arkansas to President Reagan (!), as all she wants for Christmas is world peace, and she fears the kind of world she and her future kids will be living in 07 13 Janet Jackson - Control (5) 06 08 Robbie Nevil - C'est La Vie (2) 05 02 Bruce Hornsby & The Range - The Way it Is (1) 04 05 Gregory Abbott - Shake You Down (1) 03 04 Duran Duran - Notorious (2) Flashback Extra: Huey Lewis & The News "Jacob's Ladder", which was "three weeks away from hitting the countdown" 02 03 Wang Chung - Everybody Have Fun Tonight (2) 01 01 The Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian (1)
*1986 peak; hit #4 in 1961.
This week we have five debut songs. Falling out: "True Blue" by Madonna (LW: 39), "Wild Wild Life" by Talking Heads (LW: 36), "Amanda" by Boston (LW: 35), "Goldmine" by The Pointer Sisters (LW: 33), and "Love Will Conquer All" by Lionel Richie (LW: 24).
NOTES: A Christmas-y time indeed - and Casey lets you know, "Happy Holidays everyone!" right at the beginning. Get a load of this chart, though - a rather vicious chart this week, with lots of songs jumping over other songs, despite only seven songs falling within the 40 this week (a pretty low amount for a later-80s show). Originally shortened: "Someday", "The Way it Is" (at #5) Get a load of the two dedications from teenage girls in Arkansas. One is quite silly, right down to the song she chose to express what she's saying. The other...couldn't be more of a polar opposite. Incidentally, that former LDD is listed on the cue sheet as just that - unlike most countdown song LDDs, its position isn't even given for it. The #1s on Billboard's other charts were read leading into #5 this week. No spoiler for the #1 song this week. Now, if you already knew what it was, that's not so surprising. But, one of Casey's show promos referenced the fact that lately it had been a revolving door at #1 - songs would hit the top for a week, then be spun out. He'd reference this again as his lead-in to "Walk Like an Egyptian" breaking that trend and staying put for a second week. #1 on the Soul chart: "Girlfriend" by Bobby Brown #1 on the Country chart: "Mind Your Own Business" by Hank Williams, Jr. #1 on the Dance chart: "Control" #1 on the Album chart: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Live 1975-1985

Well, Christmas is over and we're back to having two-show weeks for both '70s and '80s shows. Yes, I did type that. Premiere even has to have two-show weeks for classic year-ending shows (although in the case of the '70s, this more likely has to do with next weekend than this weekend but...). Good news is I'll still be doing single preview posts the next two weekends before going back to two-part previews until next November.
For the '70s, the "A" show is the Top 40 of 1973 while the "B" show is Part 1 of the Top 100 of 1975
Op extras for 1973 Hour #1: "Live And Let Die" - Paul McCartney & Wings Hour #2: "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)" - George Harrison Hour #3: "Ramblin' Man" - Allman Brothers Band
