This is my first year of R&R HoF nominations since I started actively posting on Pulse. I'm excited to discuss it! Hopefully they're released Tuesday.
HolidayGuy, do you post on Future Rock Legends by chance? You seem like you would.

Future Rock Legends observed that the 2012 individual nominee pages for Heart, Joan Jett and Donna Summer have disappeared from the hall site. Hmmm...

Looks like they're returners to this year's ballot. That could be wrong, but I'd bank on it. Does that mean that they're the ONLY returning nominees? Hmmmm.....

Beyond Donna Summer probably getting in because she had the misfortune of dying this year, I have no idea who will get inducted this time around.

If the Runaways did not get in, Joan Jett does not have much of a shot either

The Runaways have been eligible since 2001; no consideration.
Th Rock Hall considering Joan Jett & The Blackhearts over the Runaways may say something, though. Look how Smokey Robinson was inducted solo- no way it was for his solo work. Even his Rock Hall bio focused heavily on his work with The Miracles. Last year, The Miracles finally were inducted, but it was via a non-Rock-Hall-member vote, compensating for the groups that had been overlooked for years.

Commercial success was obvious with the Blackhearts. But most of their bigger hits were remakes. I would think in terms of being 'influential' that would be the Runaways easily.
So it is surprising that the Blackhearts are being considered over the Runaways

Yeah, but the JJ/Blackhearts' version of "I Love Rock and Roll" IS an undisputed classic. :)
I'd like to see Pat Benatar get in before that entity. But, she hasn't yet been considered. She was never a critical favorite, but she was influential.

^Start contacting the 400-500 (or more) voting members. With its seventh nomination, it's time for Chic, I'd think. The Stooges were nominated eight times before being voted in, Patti Smith seven, Black Sabbath eight (these are just nominations, not how many years they were eligible before being voted in).

Donna Summer's induction is overdue; it was only a matter of time, with her years of eligibility and number of prior nominations. Same for Chic- will the band have to wait for its eighth nod to get in?
Public Enemy should be a first-year inductee, so if that pans out, goodie.

Donna Summer - Donna Summer Heading For The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 11 December 2012
Donna Summer Heading For The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame
Late disco diva Donna Summer has landed a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Due to an administrative error, the I Feel Love singer's induction notice has been released hours before Hall of Fame officials announce the Class of 2013 on Tuesday (11Dec12).
Summer passed away in Florida in May (12) after losing a secret battle with lung cancer.
A statement from the late star's family reads: "We are overjoyed the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame has recognized Donna's tremendous musical achievements. Its an honor we know she quietly hoped for and would very much cherish. We are deeply grateful.
"The family cannot fully express the gratitude they feel for the outpouring of love received over the past few months in support of Donna's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. From fellow recording artists and industry executives to friends and fans from around the world, it will not be forgotten."
Ironically, the news of Summer's induction comes as stars like Kelly Rowland and Ciara prepare to honour the singer and another tragic R&B star, Whitney Houston, at the 2012 Vh1 Divas concert on Sunday (16Dec12).
Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea will officially reveal the Class of 2013 on Tuesday.
The full list of nominees are Rush, Deep Purple, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Procol Harum, Albert King, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, the Meters, Chic, Randy Newman, the Marvelettes, Kraftwerk, Donna Summer, Public Enemy, and N.W.A.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on 18 April (12).

^Physically, yes. But she very well may know if it. If so, it doesn't mean what it would if she were present, but that's a whole 'nother discussion. It's acknowledgment nonetheless. :)

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced next year's inductees: Rush, Public Enemy, Heart, Randy Newman, Donna Summer and Albert King will all join the class of 2013, with Summer, who passed away this May, and King, who died in 1992, earning the honor posthumously. Lou Adler and Quincy Jones will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.
"It's a terrific honor and we'll show up smiling," Rush's singer and bassist, Geddy Lee, tells Rolling Stone. "It made my mom happy, so that's worth it." Lee is especially happy for Rush's army of hardcore fans. "It was a cause they championed," he says. "I'm very relieved for them and we share this honor with them, for sure."
Public Enemy are only the fourth hip-hop act to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were inducted in 2007, Run-D.M.C. made it in in 2009 and the Beastie Boys received the honor last year.
Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart were also overjoyed to learn the news. "Some people have an idea of what the shape of rock & roll is supposed to look like," says Ann Wilson. "We're not really it. Personally, that's why I think it's taken quite a while . . . We're always traveling and out there doing it. It can start to feel like you're a tree falling in the forest, but nobody notices. So this kind of acknowledgement is really sweet."
For Randy Newman, the news came as a shock. "I thought maybe I'd have to die before they let me in," he says. "I'm really glad it happened when I was still around to see it . . . They're always a little doctrinaire about what's rock & roll and what isn't rock & roll. It's nice they opened up a little to let me in."
The public was allowed to vote for the first time in the history of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Votes were taken online, and the result was a "fan's ballot" that was counted along with roughly 600 other ballots.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on April 18th, 2013 at the Nokia Theater and broadcast on HBO May 18th. Tickets will go on sale to the public on January 25th

Nice for Heart; the band was eligible for 11 years, a little less than Donna Summer. Rush had to wait 14 years since becoming eligible, Randy Newman had 22 years and Albert King had a 25-year wait.
The Stooges had eight nominations when it was inducted; perhaps eight will be Chic's "lucky" number, too.

Nile Rodgers has been battling cancer also. It would be nice if they inducted him (with Chic) while he was still with us.
I loved Donna Summer, but her induction is bittersweet. I would have liked to see her inducted a while back.

While Donna Summer's passing may have made people realize that she should have been indicted earlier, I don't think it's why she was inducted this year. I mean, Whitney Houston's passing was big news, and she didn't make the nominee list. She's been eligible for less time than Donna Summer, but some figured she'd at least get onto the nominee list because of her passing.
